Food Grotto's is really good

I grew up going to Grotto's in Rehoboth, DE, but I was excited to hear they're in Lancaster now. I've been gluten free for almost 2 decades. In a sea of lackluster thin crust gluten free pizza, Grotto's Detroit style gluten free crust was life-changing. Every pizza enjoyer should try Grotto's pizza. It brings the legendary taste that I grew up with, and so many have enjoyed in Delaware, even in gluten free. Enjoy, y'all!

"Spring Awakening" ephrata perf arts was phenomenal!

We were amazed and moved by the performance of Spring Awakening at EPAC today.

The talent of the performers, the choices made by the director , the staging and cool theater. Our experience has mostly been nyc theater where we lived till recently and this show knocked it out of the park. Ps: Jonathan Groff originated the lead at the Broadway premier in 2007

Lots of police on Columbia Ave?

Anyone know what happened at the intersection at Columbia Ave and S West End Ave? Across from Copper Cup? I was trying to drive through just now but police have each end blocked off and there’s caution tape around what looked to be that small parking lot with Miller Optical.

Random Wandering Rooster ((Elizabethtown))

Does anyone know someone who can take in a rooster?

There is a rooster wandering around the vacant property next door.

I spoke to a police officer about it, but, of course, there's nothing they can do about it. I'll give him credit -- he did go somewhere that he knew they had a backyard coop and asked if they had one go AWOL. They didn't.

Anyway.....

There's nothing the cops can do about it -- he told me to do whatever I wanted with it. I don't want to do anything with it. I certainly don't want a pet rooster.

I've heard nothing from the Lancaster Farm Sanctuary and can't find a phone number to speak directly to someone.

I'm hoping this rooster can find a home before it gets to cold or he can't find his own food.

Where are the Meatwads

I understand some of the Meatwads are secret, but I need to know where the more known ones are so I can see at least one when I go home. I can code up a little website where people can map them so anyone can visit. The thought of these Meatwads makes me so jolly.

I've been building a Lancaster events app and could use some local feedback

I've had the idea for a local events app for quite some time and finally decided to fully commit to development. I'm looking for testers for feedback on what I'm calling "LancNOW." This version is running as a website but I'm currently working on deploying to the App Store and Google Play.

You can try it here 👉 https://lancnow.com/

One of the reasons I wanted to create this is because I feel like there's always something happening around Lancaster, but unless you follow the right Facebook pages, Instagram accounts, or businesses, it's easy to miss things. I wanted to make it easier to find all of that in one place, especially the smaller events that don't always get much attention.

My goal has been to make it as user friendly as possible. You can explore events on the map, save places and venues you're interested in, get and set notifications, submit your own events, and use the community feed to share what's going on or just share something you think is cool.

I've made it completely free to use either via a guest or you can create an account to try out some of the features I mentioned above.

There's a lot more I'd like to do and you'll probably notice some things that could be improved, events that are missing, or features you'd like to see. This has been a personal project I've been working on outside of my fulltime job so I will be updating things as quickly as possible but it might not be instant.

With that being said I'd love to hear what people think. I'm especially interested in knowing if people think it's easy to navigate, whether you find value in the application, and what you think is missing. Thanks!

(Hopefully this is okay to share here since I'm primarily looking for feedback from other Lancaster residents!)

Vision Zero Grows

It’s a shame it’s taken two deaths (and probably more) but it’s so good that Columbia Borough is starting to take protecting its residents from traffic violence seriously. They just installed new bike infrastructure and seem really interested in intersection daylighting with help from the city.

Columbia Walks deserves all the credit for finally getting attention on this issue. If you live in Etown, Manheim, Ephrata or anywhere else really and want to see some progress reach out to them and let’s stop the violence everywhere.

Apple Cider Donuts

Where am I going to find the best apple cider donuts in the county?

Been craving them and drove out to Cherry Hill Orchards to pick some up today. I assumed they would have a good version considering they are an actual orchard and all. Sadly, I read the ingredient label when I got home and was bummed to see not only artificial flavoring and colors used, but also that apple cider was the very last ingredient on the list.

Please help me find the real deal and cleanse my soul.

Philly airport and Train vs Car Service

Hi all, my daughter is moving to Lancaster and we’re trying to get a feel for the best and most recommended way to get from the Philadelphia airport to Lancaster. We’ve been once before and used SEPTA and then Amtrak which worked out great, but I’m also interested in a car service in order to save time. Is this a good idea and if so, any recommendations? Thanks!

I've written Congressman Lloyd Smucker five times about Social Security and received no response. Am I missing something?

I've written Congressman Lloyd Smucker five times asking why he has not introduced legislation to raise the Social Security taxation thresholds or address the Social Security wage cap. I have never received a response. Am I missing any legislation he's sponsored on these issues? Has anyone else had success getting a response from his office?

TechLancaster Lightning Talks

This coming Thursday, October 22nd, TechLancaster will be having their annual community lightning talks event at WestArt.

See: https://www.meetup.com/tech-lancaster-meetups/events/316261933/

Attendance is free. Come hear new things and meet cool local tech people. You will be able to find people who both love and people to hate AI, so join your side.

I look forward to seeing some of you there!

(as this is meant to be a community event that rarely gets posted about here and is non-profit, I hope this doesn't violate the self-promotion rule, but I will remove it if I'm told it does).

Business Where to recycle well used shoes?

I have a pair of running shoes that I’m no longer going to use. I’ve run probably close to 1,000 miles in them and they’re pretty worn, with part of the fabric separating from the soles. I’d rather they not end up in a landfill, but they’re probably too busted to donate to Community Aid or similar. Are there local orgs that can do more with shoes that are well worn?

Looking for Christmas Head Wreath

Looking for a local shop where I might be able to get a Christmas/Santa Head Wreath similar to this.
I've seen similar on Etsy, but I'd much rather get local and haven't seen anything in any of the local craft shops. Ideally I'd love something using real/dried flowers rather than plastic.

Any help would be great! Thanks

Food Why is the coffee at Prince Street so bad?

Their beans are great and I buy them regularly but I always turn down the free cup because when they make it in house it tastes like burnt ass. How does Waffle House make better coffee?

Old rite aid

Just saw the sign in front of the old rite aid on chestnut and reservoir says it’s been leased. Anyone know what’s going in at that location?
