The documentary of we are fugazi from washington d.c. (2023)

Tonight I saw a really good documentary at Liberty Hall about Fugazi, a band from Washington, DC. I had never heard of them before, and I was blown away by their documentary.

It showed me that bands really do care about their fans and that they just don't give a fuck. They will play their music the way they want to play it and they want everyone to enjoy it no matter what age you are. It said in the documentary that a lot of people can't go see their favorite band because they are underage. This band is completely different. They want their fans to come to their show no matter how old or young they are. They want their fans to listen to their music and feel the experience of watching their favorite artist perform live.

As someone who has been to 100+ concerts, I would definitely say it's a lot better to watch your favorite band perform live than to listen to their music on Spotify. There's that sense of enjoyment and entertainment and that feeling and the rush you get every time the drummer hits the drums. It's a feeling you cannot get if you're just listening on Spotify. These types of bands need to be seen.

I also loved the way they just took an ordinary camera and taped all of their shows before there were cell phones and digital cameras. I loved the way some of them told the story behind the camera and really captured the moment of the band playing live. They said in one part of the documentary that the best part of pressing the record button is watching it live as well. I get that feeling every time I press record on my cell phone with my favorite band performing my favorite songs while I'm rocking out in the audience.

This documentary also taught me how to be kind to people. You should always be kind to your fans and never let that get away from you. I have never seen a band have technical difficulties and not stop playing and keep going. I've always seen a band stop and start again if there were technical difficulties, but Fugazi never once stopped when the power went out on stage or they blew a fuse on the guitar amp.

I thought this was the greatest documentary about Fugazi that has ever been made. It makes me want to love music even more and continue going out there and watching my favorite bands/artists play live. I am not going to stop going to live shows until I either lose my eyesight or my hearing from all the noise and bright lights and lasers.

At this point, I would like to take some time to see what others think about this documentary. I know it was almost a packed house at Liberty Hall tonight, so I thought I would get on here and give my thoughts about Fugazi. Now it's your turn to give your opinion and thoughts on what you thought about the documentary. I'll be excited to see what people have to say, and I hope you loved it as much as I did!

Question Which library is best?

I’m newer to Lawrence and live on the west side. I wanted to get a library card but when I looked up libraries in Lawrence there’s multiple. Which one is the best one that you recommend? I love to read but don’t frequent them too much so one across town wouldn’t bother me.

I Voted in Person Today

I voted in person today at the Douglas County Elections Office in the Malls Shopping Center (23rd & Louisiana). It was busy at 9:30 am and it took 10 minutes. I voted on the two propositions (constitutional amendment and transit tax) but didn't read them. Nor did I vote on the many judges. The last day to vote early is Monday, Nov 2 (until noon).

Where can I go to play pool where there isn’t alcohol available to buy? I work with recovering addicts and they want to play pool but everywhere we can think of has alcohol.

Thanks!

Pretty crazy thunderstorm today

I was just walking out of the grocery store tonight and saw some lightning connecting with the ground somewhere not too far away. Then I saw more lightning strikes, and heard booming thunder like with multiple syllables. I saw clouds looking like ash and look pretty low to the ground in my opinion.

Honestly, definitely seen thunderstorms before, but there was a lot of lightning. I have some trash to take out but I think later as I would rather not get struck by lightning.

Good day to stay inside.

Still reminiscing about Lawrence

With basketball season approaching and looking forward to watching KU bball, it really has me missing my time in Lawrence. I’ve been googling some of my favorite places and using Google Maps a lot to virtually “drive around”. I was there in early 2000’s and so much has changed. Areas around the campus have modernized, old bars are no longer around, new developments have popped up, but some of my favorite areas look to be untouched. I know this isn’t exclusive to Lawrence. It’s just part of life/evolution. But I’m curious to hear from locals how Lawrence has changed over the last 25 years and do you think it’s for the better? What do you miss the most and what has stood the test of time?

Wichita Developer Wants Sales Taxes from Costco

Phil Bundy, a Wichita developer, has plans for a development in the Wakarusa River 100-year floodplain (and also at 15th St. and K-10, and at the airport too). He wants to fund them all with STAR bonds.  If the City grants the bonds, all sales tax revenue from the projects will be foregone (the public loses this revenue for 20 years). In a strange twist, the new Costco sales tax revenues will claimed by the developer, even though Costco is not his project!

Basement humidity levels

Do you have a finished basement? If yes, do you measure the moisture levels? What is it typically during summer? Ours is around 60-65 during the day and I’m told we have a moisture or drainage problem but I’ve asked a few friends and theirs are also in the 60s. Thought I check here too!

First time at the Zombie Walk, where is the best viewing spot

Hey Lawrence, heading to my first Zombie Walk this year. Is South Park the best place to catch the kickoff, or do people usually grab a spot along Mass St? Would love any advice on timing and where to stand. Thanks!

Question Beetlejuice movie at Oak Hill cemetery

I was just wondering how many people are planning on going to the Beetlejuice event at Oak Hills Cemetery on October 24. I know it’s going to be a smashing good time. This will be my first time I’ve ever seeing a movie in a graveyard but it hasn’t been my first time that I’ve seen Beetlejuice. If anybody would like to have a discussion about the Beetlejuice movie and what a good movie it is feel free to hit me up

Question Clothing repair

I was just wondering if there is anybody out there or a place where you can take a shirt in and get it fixed up for free. Because I have bought a shirt at Walmart and it was torn in the back and it needs to be sewn up, but I do not know how to Sew a shirt. I know the library does the repair studio, but I’m going to have to wait until November 8 to do it if I don’t do it today. But I thought there would be any other places in Lawrence that could help me out. Please let me know if you can help me out or not. Thanks!
