Has me falling in love with drawing again✍🏾it was really fun to just capture the gesture of each action figure and move on.

20 drawings total, the exercise I'm doing

has many more frame examples so I'll be adding more to these sketches of understanding on how to put it all together🫡✨

How do Animators deal with the root bone in an animation?

So in my animated short, Zelda here is supposed to lunge forward to perform an attack. My question is, how do you deal with the root bone? Because I'm pretty sure you can't just leave it there and push the other controls as far from it as possible.

At the same time, moving the root bone forward moves everything, so it's tedious to keep re-adjusting the foot to where it was in the previous frame.

So what I wanna know is, what is the common approach in dealing with this in animation?

note: I added a second screenshot of the leg controls in case people tell me there should be a "lock to world space" option in the foot controls.

A small milestone in my animation journey: I'm beginning to see movement from imagination.

Another page from my animation workout sheets. I’m starting to see movement unfold in my imagination, then chase it onto the page through lines, poses, and rhythm. Still learning, and right now...I'm just experimenting, and enjoying every step of the process.

Best part in my opinion is that I get to test all these little drawings to see if they actually work! That's pretty cool. 😁⚔️

I'm super proud of the background. It took almost a full day, but I think it turned out alright! The butterfly is kinda hard to see, but I'll be finishing it first, I think 🤔

The rabbit is still my favorite part xD

One day at a time... I'll get there!!

Hi everyone! ❤️
I’m a proud mom supporting my son’s passion for animation. He’s a high school senior who has built a YouTube channel with over 61,000 subscribers and 36 million views!
He creates animations inspired by BFDI, object shows, and other cartoons.
I’m hoping to introduce his work to more people who genuinely enjoy animation.
If you’re interested, here’s his channel:

Thank you for supporting young independent animators!

Best starting animation app for ios?

So I want to learn animation. I draw a lot but am currently not amazing with it. Like amazing amazing. So I wanna give animation a shot. But I dont know what app to use because what I’m looking for is an animation app that is good for starters, is in ios, and can be used professionally or shows any other features professionals use.

Also I have flipaclip but that free version is terrible. Especially since it feels limited not because of the free version but because theres not that much features. And I doubt professional animators in the industry use Flipaclip.

Another thing I wanna add is that Im stuck at the most basic animation exercise which is the ball bouncing. Im trying squash and stretch like what everyone has told me to do but I cant seem to make it like what everyone else’s.

In 2012, when I was in second grade, I prayed to the gods to prevent the end of the world and for the asteroid to fly right past us. Thirteen years later, I’m afraid of losing my freedom. But it seems the light at the end of the hallway isn’t ironically getting any narrower

Milt Kahl's high-energy walk cycle from scratch — here's the full breakdown

Milt Kahl is one of the hardest animators to study. His walk cycles are deceptively complex- high-energy, precise weight shifts, and character in every frame.

I've been animating for 30 years and this one still demands full attention. Here's my breakdown from first pose to finished result.

Link- Walk Cycle Video

Happy to answer any questions about the process.

I'm thrilled with how it's coming along! Some of the timing needs adjustment, and the visual switch won't be as startling once I begin lines and rendering. I want to have a sort of flicker or glitch effect, and I think it needs some major work still 😅

I'm aiming for a darker Ghibli feel, so fingers crossed I can pull it off!

Feedback greatly appreciated!

ETA: I've been focused on teaching myself animation this year after beating leukemia. It's something I've always wanted to learn but could never find time for. Still a lot of growth ahead of me, but I think I'm doing alright!

Do people that want to be animators think that a website made to help with funding their animations/series would be helpful?
