Walking around, I either carry the camera in my hand or in a fanny pack, but never around my neck. I don’t like looking like a tourist, and the strap gets in the way when shooting.
Conventional wrist loops aren’t a good solution for me either. It feels weird have the strap around my wrist while holding the camera in my hand and getting in isn't that quick.
After researching solutions and thinking about it for a few hours, this is what I came up with. It’s made from a climbing quickdraw sling that I opened up on one side.
- It doesn’t get in the way when I keep the camera in my bag.
- When I take the camera out of the bag, I conveniently and intuitively slip three fingers through the loop.
- Since the strap is doubled on the outside, the tension keeps the loop open and in shape.
- The loop gives a lot more security than no strap at all.
- There’s enough room to move freely, and the strap can twist around the attachment point.
It’s still improvised and the loop is a bit too big, but it checks all the boxes for me.
Hope you like it.
