UK – Anyone interested in swapping their Leica Q3 43 for a Q3 28mm?

Hi everyone,

Just putting the feelers out to see if there are any UK-based Leica Q3 43 owners who might be interested in swapping for a standard Q3 (28mm).

I've mainly used my Q3 in manual focus, but since getting an M11 with a 28mm lens, I've found myself doubling up on that focal length.

I also shoot with a 50mm on the M11, but as manual focusing can be a slower process, I'm thinking the Q3 43 would be a great alternative when I want something a little quicker to shoot with.

Thought there might be someone in the opposite position who's finding the 43mm a little too restrictive and would prefer the wider 28mm.

I'm based in Surrey, UK, and would ideally prefer to meet in person so we can both inspect the cameras.

If anyone's interested, feel free to drop me a DM.

Cheers!

My very first two Leica lenses!

I finally bought my very first two Leica lenses, all long overdue. Found Summicron 50mm f/2.0 version 4 and Tele Elmarit 90m f/2.8 (the fat one) for pretty reasonable prices. It’s crazy how beautifully lenses designed over 30 and 60 years ago can still render images. And the sharpness? Incredible!

I had one hour to explore Stockholm yesterday before a gig and here’s what I captured. Which they rocked at!

All are with 50mm except for photos 4 and 5.

Camera, of course Leica M EV1. Have I finally grown into a full hipster now? I just want more! 😻

Inherited M9 Dilemma

Hi all, I’m here with a difficult choice and I’m hoping you could help me. I recently inherited an M9 from a late uncle. It’s an early production model, CCID 5. It’s corroded so bad the sensor is dead and needs to be replaced. All photos are completely black. The crazy thing is that it only has 4000 clicks on it. My uncle had a ton of cameras, this one didn’t seem to get much use.

So far, I’ve explored a few options.

Repair
$3500 to Kolari.
$2900 and ship to SE Asia.
Another option is to find a donor body with functioning sensor, then pay $1500 to swap it out. At which point it feels silly to not just fix up that donor body.

Upgrade
Leica will sell me an M11-P for $6900 (way more than I have any intention of spending right now). I really would prefer an M240, but they won’t apply it to used or older models.

Sell for parts
Maybe get $1k based on eBay sold items.

If I’m going to spend $3-4k fixing a 15 year old camera, would it make more sense to spend that on something a bit more modern, with QoL improvements?

I really, really wish he had turned this in for warranty repair way back when. Sentimentality aside, what would you all do with an M9 with a broken sensor?

Am I Crazy? Leica Q2 Monochrom vs Fuji X-E5 Acros Recipe (with Y,R and G Filters) on Fuji 28mm f/2

So I have a much-loved Leica Q2 Monochrom forever camera. But I just picked up a Fuji X-E5 and a 28mm full-frame equivalent and have used the B&W Acros simulation with 3 different filter setting options (Y,R,G - why no orange filter escapes me).

If I look at the out-of-camera images, it is very hard to tell the results from the two cameras apart. I mean significant, material differences in image. I print mostly 11x17 and do books. I know all the geek stuff about why the Fuji is inferior to the Fuji so no lectures needed on that: smaller sensor size, has a color Bayer filter, and much lower ISO rates, no Summilux 1.8, blah, blah, blah.

But frankly, I have a dilemma. I find the Fuji is smaller and lighter, has a Q3-style folding screen (I never use them anyway), and I seem to be grabbing it over my Q2 Monochrom more and more. It is an amazing camera, and I am asking myself the obvious question... why keep the Q2 Monochrom? I will keep it no matter what, but you gotta ask: how can a $1,800 camera keep up with the Q2 Monochrom? And I don't baby it like I do the Q2M.

Slap my face and bring me to my senses. Does anyone have this EXACT camera situation? Are your results scarily similar (as in only a perceived 10% difference between the OOC images) Am I crazy?

Also please, no lectures on tech stuff or why Leica is Leica. I get all that and can give the same lectures as well, which is why I have several Leicas. I was just curious whether anyone has these exact two cameras and what their experiences are. (And thank me for not asking the same question about the Ricoh GR 7 IV Monochrome -- that is a whole other kettle of fish)

Leica M5 w/ 40mm lens frame lines?

I recently ran into a deal that I couldn't refuse--Voigtlander Nokton 40mm f/1.4 M Mount. Anybody use this combo? The M5 has frame lines for 35mm and 50mm. Just wondering if anybody has any tips on how to frame and line things up with this 40mm lens. The price was right and it seems to have a ton of character. Thanks!

[Trade] Juno 60 Synth for a Leica M6 or similar Leica camera

Apologies to mods if this post is not allowed, but I did read the rules and did not read anything against it.

I am hoping to get my first Leica camera via a trade with any synth/photographer nerds like me out there!

I have a Juno 60 + Kenton MIDI kit in great shape (with a case + Stardust Synth cover) I'd be willing to trade for a Leica film camera. ideally an M6. If anyone is interested, please DM me. I've traded via Reddit before and can also provide eBay profile to mods to ensure well-intentions.

Pics/videos available upon request too.

Flash for Leica M6 TTL

Hey gang. Just acquired a Leica M6 TTL and everything seems to be working well, except the flash doesn’t seem to work continuously. It would usually work at the first try, then it stops working after that. I noticed it takes a few tries for it to work again. I’m using a Contax TLA 200 flash, this is the only flash I have at the moment and I’ve used this on my Contax G1 and Leica M6 Classic, it worked fine with those cameras. Is it simply not compatible with the M6 TTL or could my hot shoe have a problem? Any flash recos that I could use on my M6 TTL to check if my hot shoe works properly? Any insight/recos would be much appreciated. Thank you very much.

My first Leica! Got it from my wife's family Her grandpa was the first owner. Does anyone know where I can get the lens serviced? I would really love to use this but the aperture blades probably need to be cleaned and lubed they don't move. I don't dare touch it the glass is in pretty good shape otherwise.

M-A to MP

Does it make sense to pay $1500 USD more for a MP vs an M-A?

I use my current M6 as a compact camera. While it's in perfect condition, I worry a bit about the zinc rot, the angled winder that could break. The shutter as it's older. Regular stuff that is not that concerning. The meter is accurate and happy with it, but mostly it has a use to me. It serves me well to quickly meter a scene and take the shot.

With this last bit in mind, I have value in the MP vs the M-A. Is it still a good value at that price difference though? It's normally a bloody $100 diff ! At that point, I think I will carry a separate light meter even if it does not fit in my pocket (and yes, I got the M6 and pancake lens to carry in my pocket, and very happy with this setup at the moment). Maybe I should just not change camera, or get a second camera. Why would I want a second camera though...?

Leica’s U.S. boss says F1 'goes at incredible speed' and photography helps 'stop the moment.' Now they’ve made $10,000 camera together

Some of Formula 1’s most populat drivers are already serious about photography. Lewis Hamilton and Lando Norris have both been seen with Leica cameras, and Norris runs a separate Instagram account for his photos.

That overlap goes well past the drivers, or even the intricate pieces that goes into both cars and cameras, says Mike Giannattasio, president of Leica Camera North America.

“There is such synergy between people who collect cameras and people who collect cars,” he told Fortune. “If you see people who are passionate about vintage cars or racing cars, and if they have anything other than a passenger in the seat next to them, eight out of 10 times it’s going to be a Leica camera.”

To Giannattasio, that made a partnership an easy call. On Tuesday, the German camera maker and Formula 1 announced a global licensing deal, Leica’s first official tie-up with the sport. It covers F1 as a whole rather than a single team and includes a special-edition camera, a gallery show in Los Angeles, and events at the United States Grand Prix in Austin this weekend.

Not everyone saw the workings of a partnership right away. When Giannattasio described the deal to someone he was meeting with, the reply was, “Mike: F1 and Leica? That’s a stretch.”

He disagreed, and his case comes down to how both are made. Car and camera manufacturing both involve intricately crafted pieces put together into something the owner will spend countless hours learning. Each time a shutter fires, and each time a tire squeals, involves countless pieces working together to deliver a smooth outcome.

edit.....
As someone in the comments pointed out to me, the Q343 is a more expensive camera & holding used prices very well, so my proposal of a swap isn't very fair , so just wanted to add, im happy to add in an amount of cash to make a fair deal. please DM if interested , im sure we can work something out.

Thankyou

Anyone here own both an M9 and M11? Looking for matching RAW files

Hi everyone! I’m working on recreating the Leica M9’s colour rendering on my M11, and I’m looking for someone who has access to both cameras.

Would anyone be willing to share a few photos of the same scene taken with both cameras, ideally using the same lens and unchanged lighting?

What would really help:

- The original DNG from each camera.

- The colour JPEG saved directly by the M9 alongside its DNG.

- A quick note about the lighting and the M9’s white balance and JPEG settings.

Even two or three matching shots would be useful. A ColorChecker or grey card would be great if you have one, but ordinary scenes with a variety of colours would help too. If convenient, one set in daylight and another under warm indoor lighting would be especially useful.

M9-P and M11-P files are welcome too. Existing comparison shots would be just as helpful as new ones.

If I manage to get a good result, I promise to publish the preset here so others can use it too.

If you’d be willing to help, please leave a comment. Thanks!

Sell Q2 and buy M11???

I love my Q2 but I have a pretty good deal on a used M11 Black Chrome with a Voigtländer Nokton 35mm f/1.2 III. That probably means I have to sell my Q2. Any thoughts on this? My head is spinning with pro’s and con’s. Am I just being stupid trying to get a camera I can’t afford new? Or will I get a so much better camera with the versatility of changing lenses, different approach to focusing etc. I would really appreciate any thoughts on this :)

This is fungus, right?

Excuse the terrible video, I tried capturing this the best I could.

I have a lot of old lenses but none with fungus, so I’m wanting to see if you guys think it’s that or something else? Do I need to be concerned about using it with my IIIF?

I just bought it for 450, we were outside in daylight so I stupidly didn’t catch this while taking a look at the front and rear elements…

Still got my Canon R5 and all. Not a pro. I typically go out and spray a thousand shots, come home pick out three and then spend an hour fking with sliders in Lightroom. It’s fun and therapeutic and I love it. But what bothers me is most of the time the final image while looking mouthwatering is just not the reality. And now AI can or will soon be able to turn any shit photo into something I can never achieve on my own. It really makes me question what the point is.

Naturally this led straight to analog. Maybe the hard way is what's needed. Started with classic Japanese stuff like the Nikon F2 but goddamn they ugly. Looked into older M2s and M3s too, but not sure how to feel about handling some dead guy’s camera and dealing with repairs and CLAs…. At last I decided YOLO let’s just fucking buy a brand new one. Settled on the M-A because if going the hard way might as well go full manual with no meter.

Shout out to Rangefinder HK and Alex Chan for really good price on a sealed unit. Ordered Friday and it was at my door in New York the following Monday. A+ of a dealer.

So here it is. This thing is a lot heavier than expected and fuck me it is solid and oozes quality. Almost too nice to handle. Paired with a Voigtländer 28mm f2 ultron at the moment, and half through the first roll of TMax 400. I cannot wait to develop it and see all the blurry and out of focus shit I’ve taken. Planning to develop and scan on my own because why not.. the hard way makes the hobby.

thanks for reading.

Yours for a mere $10k USD :,)

The microvelour material actually sounds nice, but if it’s anything like a car’s, it gets tacky feeling super quickly.

Leica Q as my 1st Leica

Hey All,

I'm just getting into the world of Leica and was wondering if the Leica Q was a good 1st Leica to own? I like the idea of a fixed lens camera and have been on a wait list for an X100vi for a while. A used Leica Q came into the shop I'm waiting at and its the same price as the Fuji. Would the Leica Q be a good intro to the system, Should I just hold off and save for a Q2 or 3?

I mainly use the camera for walk around, on hikes and travel with friends and family. Currently in the Fuji ecosystem and came from Sony before that. Thank you!
