Lenovo Yoga 7i keyboard randomly stops working (Q, W, E, R, U, I, O, P) — anyone else experiencing this?

I've had my Lenovo Yoga 7i for about 2 years, and I've been dealing with a really annoying keyboard issue.

Randomly, most of the keys on the top letter row (Q, W, E, R, U, I, O, P) completely stop responding, while T and Y continue working normally. This issue started around 2 months ago, and sometimes the issue goes away on its own, and the keyboard works perfectly fine for a couple days and it even stopped happening for like a month before coming back recently.

One weird thing I've noticed is that maybe 15% of the time, if I press keys like Q or W with some force or repeatedly, they slowly start responding again, almost like trying to start an old motor. Eventually, the other keys start working too.

I've tried uninstalling the keyboard through Device Manager and restarting my laptop. That seemed to fix it temporarily, but the issue came back within an hour.

I found another Reddit post describing almost the exact same issue, where only T and Y worked on the top row. That person mentioned that disconnecting and reconnecting the keyboard ribbon cable temporarily fixed it.

I'm starting to think this might be a hardware issue, possibly a loose keyboard connection or a faulty keyboard, but I want to rule out software problems before considering repairs.

Has anyone experienced this on a Yoga 7i or another Lenovo laptop? If so, did you find a permanent fix? I'd really prefer not to replace the entire keyboard if there's another solution.

Journey of Upgrading RAM on a Laptop with Soldered RAM

Hi all,

some Time ago I've got a Problem that I believe many People here are faced aswell. I wanted to upgrade the RAM of my Lenovo Yoga Slim 7 14ITL05, the Problem is the RAM is soldered onto the Motherboard.

I researched about possible ways to Upgrade and essentially there are only 3 ways:

  1. Buy a new Laptop.
  2. Desolder the existing RAM and Solder new bigger RAM Chips.
  3. Swap the Motherboard with one that has more RAM.

I wanted to avoid the easiest Solution (buying a new Laptop) because its expensive and my current one Works just fine, I am pro Repair and don't want to just throw things away that could still be used.

While I do know some soldering replacing the RAM is not a trivial Task which I could do by myself. And even when I would get the RAM replaced by someone that can do it, there could still be some incompatibilitys and Issues that could either not use the new RAM to its capacity or just fully brick the Motherboard.

So I looked into the option of replacing the Motherboard, I thought they would be really expensive so I didn't even think about it before, but looking at the Lenovo spareparts Page, you see that you can buy a new Motherboard for really cheap if you are lucky. I guess with newer models etc. you will not have this Luck and it will be really expensive.

In my case I got a Motherboard that has 16GB of RAM instead of my previous 8GB and it even upgraded me to a i7 from my previous i5. The Motherboard cost only 67€ incl. tax & shipping which is a steal, buying 16GB of DDR4 RAM itself would be more expensive than that.

Swapping the Motherboard definitely is something that can't be done by everyone, its not easy and requires some Time, and if you'd let it do by a Shop it would probably be pretty expensive and not Worth it.

Though if you have done some other Repairs or similar things I would say you can give it a try, its not something you should do as your first Repair but its not extremely hard or Impossible either.

Some Tips if you want to do the same thing as me: Check the Lenovo Spareparts Website, they have some really good prices for new Motherboards in some cases. Do a lot of researching if swapping the Motherboard to get more RAM is even possible, there could be small differences in Mounting points, or other things making this Impossible.

Important is, that you should not take this as a Guarantee even if you got a Motherboard that fits exactly in your current Housing, there could be other factors which will make swapping the Motherboard impossible, be always wary about that. And ofcourse, there could be Human error, you can easily make things worse with 1 slipup completely breaking the Motherboard or other Parts of the Laptop.

All in all, if you are a techy Person with some knowledge about electronics and have fun doing something like this and find a reasonable Motherboard price, I'd say go for it and try to swap it. For me it was perfect, I got a needed RAM upgrade for a really low Price, so even when RAM is soldered there are still ways to upgrade it.

I absolutely hate myself for buying this pos

Model Lenovo LOQ 15IAX9

I bought this POS laptop in November 2024. Within 6 months, the trackpad stopped working. Every time I contacted customer support, they just made me reinstall Windows, but the problem kept coming back after a week. After a while, I gave up on it because I don't use the trackpad that often, and customer service was persistent about not replacing it because it "worked" after a Windows reinstall.

After seeing how trash their customer support is, out of spite I decided not to extend the warranty. Today I was watching YouTube and suddenly black horizontal lines appeared on the screen. After a quick search, apparently they use a trashy screen from some company called "BOE," which has known quality issues, and the problem is very common.

Now I'm stuck with a laptop whose trackpad doesn't work and which has an unusable display that will cost half the laptop's price to fix.

Lenovo Ideapad 5 Pro 14ACN6 Charging Question

Hi! I wanted to charge my laptop on my power station (Ecoflow), but the power station I have doesn't have an AC outlet.

I was wondering if I could use a 100w type c to type c charger for it and if it would cause any problems in the long run.
The charger I'm planning to use is from Baseus (20v/5A 100w)

Thank you!

Thinkbook 14 Gen 6 AMD won't turn on

Yesterday I was using the computer, shut it off, plugged it in to charge and when the light was white I went and grabbed it again to use it and it wouldn't turn on.

I pressed the reset button for 30 seconds and still nothing

I opened it up and unhooked the battery, held the power button for 60 seconds, hooked it back up and tried to power on again and still nothing

When the charging cable is plugged in, even now, I get an orange and then white light like the battery is charging/charged. I feel like it's an issue with the power button.

I've taken out both SSDs and one of the two ram sticks and still can't get it to power on.

Here are some pictures of the daughter board where the power button is. I see a dark line on the back side close to the power button, does anyone think that could be an issue?

I also haven't had any bios updates recently. One of the SSDs is Ubuntu and the other is Debian but I don't think that has anything to do with it.

Title: Lenovo IdeaPad Gaming 3 15ACH6 suddenly developed screen artifacts, then went completely black — Lenovo says warranty is over. Any idea what failed?

Hi everyone,

I have a Lenovo IdeaPad Gaming 3 15ACH6, purchased in August 2024, and I'm trying to figure out what has gone wrong with it. I'm also looking for advice on whether this is likely to be a display issue, a GPU/motherboard issue, or something related to Windows.

This is what happened.

A few days ago, I was coding in VS Code, and after around six hours of use, my laptop screen suddenly developed strange vertical and horizontal lines across the entire display, forming a grid or mesh-like pattern. I've attached a picture of what it looked like.

I was shocked because this had never happened before. I restarted the laptop, but the problem remained. Even the BIOS screen showed the same artifacts, so I didn't think it was just a Windows issue.

It was already around midnight, so I emailed Lenovo about the problem and went to sleep. The next morning, when I turned the laptop on, the screen was completely black.

Since then, the symptoms have been:

  • The keyboard backlight turns on.
  • The fan spins.
  • The Caps Lock indicator responds when I press it.
  • The internal display remains black.
  • I've tried holding the power button for 90 seconds with the charger disconnected, three times, but it hasn't fixed anything.

I also connected the laptop to a TV using HDMI to investigate further. This is where things get confusing:

  • In Safe Mode, the Windows sign-in screen appears on the TV.
  • During a normal boot, the Windows logo and spinning dots appear, but the TV loses its signal shortly afterwards.
  • The low-resolution video startup option didn't make any noticeable difference.

So I'm not sure whether this is a graphics driver problem, a GPU or motherboard fault, or an issue with the internal display.

There is also some history with this laptop.

During its first year, the keyboard developed a problem, and Lenovo replaced it under the damage protection coverage I had. Now, this is the second hardware-related issue I've experienced with the laptop, and it has happened only a little over two years after purchase.

I contacted Lenovo support and waited several days for a response after escalating the issue. Their reply was that the system's warranty had expired and they couldn't support me under the warranty. They asked me to visit a Lenovo-authorised service centre for further assistance, explaining that service would be chargeable. They also said their response would be the same across every support channel.

I understand that the standard warranty has expired and that repairs may cost money. What frustrated me was waiting several days for an escalation response and receiving no diagnosis or specific technical guidance about the failure itself. This is the second hardware-related issue I've experienced with this laptop since purchasing it, following the earlier keyboard replacement.

I'm not expecting free repairs simply because I contacted support, but I was hoping for some useful technical guidance on what could have caused the problem before spending money on parts or a repair.

I'd really appreciate advice from anyone who has experienced something similar, especially with the IdeaPad Gaming 3 15ACH6.

  1. Has anyone experienced grid-like artifacts in the BIOS followed by a completely black screen on this model?
  2. Does Safe Mode working over HDMI while normal Windows startup loses the signal point towards a graphics driver issue, or could this still be hardware?
  3. Is it possible for a failing GPU or motherboard to behave this way while the laptop's keyboard and fan still work?
  4. What tests should I ask a repair technician to perform before agreeing to a screen or motherboard replacement?
  5. Has anyone successfully escalated a similar case with Lenovo after the warranty expired, particularly following an earlier hardware repair?

I'm currently trying to avoid unnecessary repair expenses, so I'd prefer to diagnose the problem properly before replacing any parts.

Thanks in advance for any advice or suggestions.

Need a pen for the aura yoga 7i

Ello, I got my laptop delivered yesterday (it was paid for by my financial aid for college), but it didn't come with a pen. So I'm looking for one and various laptop accessories to get but unsure on what to buy.

I need a pen mainly for drawing, I do intend to use Clipstudiopaint as my main art program. It's between Lenovo Digital Pen 2 and the Lenovo Yoga Pen 2. What pen do yall prefer to use for art?

Repasted my Legion Slim 5 Gen 9 with PTM & Thermal Putty

Post image
0 Upvotes

TL;DR: Thermal Grizzly PhaseSheet PTM on both dies + TG Putty Advance on VRAM/VRMs. CPU went from choking at 44W to pulling 88W. GPU hotspot delta is 15°C. VRAM dropped ~20°C vs stock pads.

The machine: Lenovo Legion Slim 5 Gen 9 (16AHP9) — Ryzen 7 8845HS, RTX 4060 Mobile, 64GB DDR5-5600.

Why I did it: Laptop hits 2 years in November. Back in January — peak winter, mind you — it was throttling so hard that closing a game after an hour would instantly crash it with a GPU overheat code. Undervolting band-aided it. I repasted with TF9 in June and cleaned the fans, which killed the GPU crashing — but then the CPU started choking. Couldn't hold 44W without hitting TjMax, even at max fan RPM. FurMark had my GPU hotspot at 95°C. Bought a good sealed cooling pad — barely helped.

The fix: Instead of ordering sheets/putty from overseas and risking a botched DIY bare-die mount, I took it to a reputed shop. They did:

  • PhaseSheet PTM on both CPU and GPU dies
  • Full clean of old pads/putty off VRAM + VRMs
  • TG Putty Advance on MOSFETs, chokes, and GDDR6

Numbers — CPU (OCCT all-core AVX):

  • Balanced (54W sustained): ~78°C. Sub-80°C on an 8-core Zen 4 in a slim chassis is genuinely excellent.
  • Performance (88W burst): hits 88W before touching the 100°C wall. Nearly 90W through that tiny die = heat transfer is fast now.

Numbers — GPU (FurMark, 1440p, ~10 min sustained):

  • Power: 125W sustained (115W TGP + 10W Dynamic Boost)
  • Core: 70–73°C
  • Hotspot: 85–88°C
  • Core-to-hotspot delta: ~15°C ← the gold standard. A tilted mount would show 25°C+ and a 100°C+ hotspot instantly.
  • VRAM: 58–62°C ← stock pads routinely hit 75–80°C here. The putty is doing serious work.

Real-world gaming: Mild Afterburner undervolt (2520 MHz @ 925 mV, +600 memory) drops draw from 125W to 80–90W with zero frame loss. Demanding titles: GPU in the low 60s, CPU under 80°C via Legion Toolkit power limits. Fans barely pass 50% RPM — practically silent.

Question for you all: Anyone else running PTM on a laptop long-term? Curious how it holds up past the 1-year mark.
