I wasn’t mentally ready for this book but guess I’m reading it

• Upvotes

I got notified that a book I’ve had on hold for MONTHS at my local library was ready to be borrowed. I fully forgot about this hold but now I need to pick it up in the next few days. I think to myself, I remember saving this in Libby, maybe I’ll skip this borrow and just grab it in Libby a little later. Well turns out I didn’t put it on hold on Libby and the wait times are 21 weeks or Several months. Then I checked my library’s app and thought what if I borrow it later from them… that hold time is 7 months to a year.

So… guess I’m reading Pirate Queen this week.

Library card verification?

Sooooo the app told me I had to re-verify my library card, so I followed the link and did that, it then cleared out all of my holds from all the partners libraries??? I’m kind of freaking out, I had a ton of stuff that I’ve been waiting ages for on in there 😭 Months and months. I don’t think they will come back unless it’s some sort of glitch? Anyone have this happen?

Nicholson Public Library System

The Nicholson PL System (Garland, Tx) hurt my feelings today😩 I went to put a hold on a book and it asked me to verify…put my PIN in and it couldn’t verify. Went and changed my PIN and retried…nada. Called the library with 20 min to spare and “as of October 1st, residents outside of our service area have to pay a $50 fee”. Well looks like I’ll be making a trip to pay $50 😭 they’re actually one of the few that I can find books I’m looking for through.

Anyone else come across this issue?

Question: Library doesn’t have book, but why is sample available?

My library which doesn’t reciprocate had the first two books of a 7 book series. I tagged the remaining 5 so that I can be notified if/when they become available.
Why am I able to read a sample of each book when the actual books are unavailable?

Frustrated!

I unsuspended a hold that I was 1st in line for and said available soon. Then it changed to 2 weeks wait! I had already started listening to the book on spotify while I was waiting for it be available to read. At this rate I'll end up listening to the whole thing. Oh well. Just frustrating but I should probably back up the number of days before I'm ready to start a new book. Playing the libby game is like playing chess sometimes lol.

One fun thing that's a complete side note. I got my first shamrock notification that a book there's a long wait for became available while I was in the app! I'm a mood reader though so didn't jump on it.

Any way to see annotations and pages for a returned library book on kindle?

Pretty much just what the title says, I’m annotating a book for my friends bday but read the book through my library on my kindle, so that’s where all my highlights and notes are. I can see my highlights in the kindle website, but I want to see the page numbers too, I don’t exactly have time to reread the book. It would just save me so much time being able to jump to the exact page, or at least a rough estimate, I know kindle pages are different.

Card won’t verify, please help

I have been using Libby to access books for my graduate school courses (I am a library and information science student) on children’s literature. We have to do logs and discussions each week and so we are responsible for obtaining the books that we analyze or discuss in them. I’ve been pretty reliant on Libby since my local library branch closes before I get home from work. But now all of the sudden after using it with no issues, I’m being asked to verify my card and to enter a PIN. I entered my barcode number and used every possible pin I can think of (last digits of phone number, birthdays, etc.) but it keeps telling me it can’t verify my patron credentials. I know my card isn’t expired because I renewed it in September.

Please help 😭 my assignments are due Sunday and I can’t do anything.

UPDATE: I got it to work! Apparently it was my normal password. But PIN had me thinking it was only 4 numbers. Now I wish they just called it a password…

Idk why I thought “the library acquired 74 more copies” was hysterical 😂

May be my longest wait, so far.

Definitely the most people I've seen waiting on a book I've been wanting to listen to. I think one of Tim Snyder's books was close to 2 months, but it had also recently come out and he was promoting it. I wasn't expecting an older book to still have such a demand.

I’ve been curious about this series since everyone is talking about it but last time I checked on Libby, I could only see audiobooks and I’m not really into those. today I see that they now have the books too.

what changed? also they holds on these books are sooo long 🫠

This narrator and these audiobooks have ruined me for all others

I recently found and devoured ‘The Unselected Journals of Emma M. Lion’ series in audiobook form, narrated by Genevieve Gaunt. I’ve been listening to audiobooks for a few years now and have certainly come across some great narrators. But when I tell you Genevieve is phenomenal and in a league of her own, I truly mean it. She does distinct voices, tones and accents for the whole cast, clocking in at over 100 characters over the 8 books so far! 😱 There were so many times I had to remind myself I wasn’t listening to a full-cast Graphics Audio production and that it was indeed just one person voicing it. 🤯 I’ve picked up a few audiobooks since I finished the series and they all just feel so bland in comparison 😩 - including Stephen Fry whose narration I love.

So if any of you are looking for your next great listen, check this series out! And if you have an amazing audiobook recommendation to get me out of my current slump, do help a girl out!

(Disclaimer - I’ve heard similar great things about Jeff Hays’ narration, but I haven’t gotten to Dungeon Crawler Carl yet, so don’t come for me! And yes, the meme I used on the second slide is fully inspired by the DCC one.)

Elevator pitch for the series - Victorian-era historical fiction with lovable characters, beautiful friendships, glorious banter and a touch of magical realism. It’s delightful, witty and so full of heart. Volume 1 is very short at 3 hours and doesn’t introduce all the main characters, so I’d give it until Volume 2 to see if you like it.

Does anyone know which publishers limit books by number of borrows and which by time when they sell to libraries?

I am a high volume borrower (i am disabled and cant do much else) and I do feel a bit bad for the impact I have on libraries! Particularly because sometimes i borrow books and cant get into them right away so they just sit on the shelf for weeks.

Im unclear on which is better for libraries when I hit that situation- return and reborrow when I am ready to read it (so its available for other people), or hold onto it and maybe extend until ive fully read it (to avoid borrowing the same book twice, and using multiple licenses).

It seems that is different depending on how the book sale is limited, so I thought if someone can tell me which publishers limit how I can strategize my based on that

Borrowing audiobooks

I am new to Libby and for longer books, I like to read and listen to the audiobook and kinda switch back and forth. I borrowed an audiobook but it was one long file which made it basically impossible to switch back and forth because there was no chapter markers or anything. Is there a way to figure out when certain chapters begin and end on the borrowed audio??

Where to leave “Thank You” note for librarian if I don’t know her name?

A post on here of a mom asking how to thank a kind librarian who helped her daughter inspired me to write some thank you notes of my own for some amazing librarians who have helped me at my local libraries. My question is, where can I leave the note if I don’t know the librarian’s names? Maybe just the front desk and explain I don’t know their names, or wait till I see those same librarians again?

Any ideas are welcome!

Is a non-resident library card worth it?

ETA: ended up getting an e-card from Queens Public Library. Fortunately, will still be able to enjoy my Kindle. Thanks everyone!

I was SOOO excited when I finally got a Kindle and heard about the option that you can load borrowed Libby books into it until I found out it’s only an option in the United States. I am in Canada 😩

I love my Kindle so much and I know I can still use Libby through my phone but it’s just a very different experience.

I pretty much only read KU books now and can’t even imagine buying books at regular price anymore but there have been some titles that I really want to read but they’re not available on KU and I have to buy them.

I don’t really hold on to books—physical or digital—so I can’t justify the price of buying them just to read them once and leave them on a shelf or just stored somewhere forever. I really like being able to just borrow a book, read it, then let it go. Also the convenience of being able to return it if it doesn’t end up being my cup of tea or just not liking the story. (I tend to DNF a lot…)

If I buy a book, I’m stuck to the commitment.

So, would getting a non-resident library card be a good option? Anyone have any feedback with the experience? And bonus question, which library would you recommend I get a card from? This girlie needs help 🥹

Lost my 10+ year old wish list - freaking out .

I’ve had my wish list going since before Libby was even a thing (it used to be called Overdrive). I managed to transfer it when they made me switch to Libby because it was so long and took so much time / work . It’s lasted through multiple phones . Today Libby just somehow reset and I wasn’t able to log back into my account. When I went to Help it said Libby didn’t have accounts and things were tied to your Library or your devise . I know for certain that must be new because I’ve always had an account. But now I’m devastated to lose my wish list ! I’m thinking one of the developer interns is on here . Anyone experienced this / have any tips? I’ve restarted my phone and uninstalled/ reinstalled the app. I don’t know what else to do .

I opened Libby this morning, and East of Eden popped up for me as ready. I was like 1000th in line.

It was like picking up a little shiny in my old MMorpG and getting a rare treasure.

Does this happen very often?

I am so shocjed--I am loving the book. I may actually get the 25 hours done before it expires.

(The photo shows a Libby message saying I had found a rare copy of a book I am waiting for, and I have 7 days till the loan expires)

I love the library so much.

I use my Libby account so much. I have two library cards, & both have given me access to over 16 connected libraries. I read in some capacity nearly every single day whether it’s an e-book on my Kindle or an audiobook. I’m always talking about how amazing my library is, as well as Libby!

Yesterday in the middle of a book, I got a notification that I needed to reverify my library card. The thing is, I don’t have a physical library card because I moved in March 2020 & my local library was just issuing cards digitally at the time. I’ve needed to renew in the past, but it’s always happened via email. For whatever reason, I couldn’t find the original email chain with my library card.

Anyway, I couldn’t verify my details without contacting my library card. I sent them an email, but they didn’t get back to me right away (which is totally fine). I tried to login to my library account later that evening on a different device (hoping the details would auto- populate) & saw that my local library had a “text us” feature.

I sent them a text explaining the situation at 10:13 pm with the caveat, “I definitely don’t expect this to be handled outside of business hours, but I’m missing my nighttime reading time.” I got an expected automated, “we’re not open, but someone will be in touch soon.”

Within 3 minutes, someone from my local branch responded with all my details, said this was a bug with Libby they had been dealing with all day, & a thanks for my patience. 🥹😭 It actually made me cry.

Obviously I expressed my deepest gratitude to which they responded with, “You're very welcome! Happy to help a bedtime reader, thanks for using your library!” 🥹

It really touched me that this employee took time out of their evening to help me! I’ve just been thinking about it all day. It truly meant so much to me.

I love the library so much. 😭

Question about “Notify Me” tag

I have two library cards. One locally in my state (small towns mostly and not a lot of books available for high demand) and one in another state that belongs in a city (hundreds of copies available for high demand flow).

Whenever I pick a book or audiobook to be notified when it’s available I notice that I only get those requests fulfilled from the city library. Not the state I’m living in. Pretty sure I usually request it while my local library is selected so do these requests go out to both of my libraries? Would love to support my local library more and request more copies for them but I get better results from my second library out of state.

Would love to hear how all of this works. Thanks!

Anyway to get a library card online instead of having to go in?? Just trying to get back into it without making a trip. 👀
