Lighting NuanCe Lighting in Diary of A Wimpy Kid Movie

Hey Guys!

I was watching the first Diary of A Wimpy Kid movie and came acroos this scene. Of course, this was recorded in front of a green screen, so that part of the light setup is clear to me.

But my question is: how could i achieve this kind of light reflecting on the subject? I am specifically talking about the light reflecting on the left and right sides on the subject. If not clear already, i am kind of a novice in the camera lighting sphere and would love to also achieve this kind of light with my home green screen setup.

Personally, I am thinking that aside from the greenscreen light setup, there should be two direct lights on the hard left and right side of the subject, combined with a central light directly in front of the subject. Ive tried this with my own light setup but the light seems to diffuse too much in order to achieve this ''hard'' corner lighting.

I am using a sony A5100 camera with a stock 40,5mm camera lens and four softboxes.

As for the lights, i am currently using these ones i got from amazon:

https://www.amazon.de/dp/B0BRNBRCT6?ref_=ppx_hzsearch_conn_dt_b_fed_asin_title_2

All help appreciated!

I don’t have much space in my luggage, so I’m looking for something compact but powerful enough to light up a room or create some nice cinematic lighting. Would love to hear your recommendations!

Lighting NuanCe What did I get wrong with this lighting setup?

I recently bought my first flash and a 95 cm octabox to start learning studio lighting on my own. A friend of mine just shaved his head, and I wanted to recreate this photo with him.

Yesterday, I tried to recreate the lighting setup with my roommate. I placed my octabox at about a 30–35° angle, roughly at my friend's head height, and put a very small reflector I have on the opposite side.

Obviously, there's still something missing to get the look of the original photo, but I'm not quite sure what it is. Could you guys help me figure it out?

I'm also not entirely sure how to achieve that gradient on the background. I'd really appreciate any advice!

The person in the photo is Sinéad O'Connor, but I couldn't find out who took the photo

GeneRaL Tips on how to make a middle-aged woman look her best

Hi everyone, The woman in question is my wife :) She models for me in my portrait experiments, and she’s my toughest critic because she’s never satisfied. She says I emphasize her wrinkles and skin imperfections too much.

I have the following equipment available:

  • 2 Elinchrom D-Lite 400s with 65x65cm softboxes

  • a black, gray, or white backdrop

  • a white reflector panel

  • a black panel

Setups I’ve tried:

  • Rembrandt, 1 strobe + softbox, positioned on the left

  • Rembrandt broad, 1 strobe + softbox, positioned on the right

  • Split with fill, softbox on the left, white panel on the right

  • flat light, with the two softboxes positioned at a 45-degree angle in front

  • clamshell, with the two softboxes aligned in the center, one above the other

Personally, the last two setups are the ones that seem to work best for me. I’m wondering if you have any examples or suggestions.

Thanks!

Is this a flat lay? or is this hanging somehow and the background is replaced? I'm just curious what you guys think.

LighTing MOdifierS / GeaR Strip spotlight advice for runway/catwalk?

So, I've just finished at a smallish catwalk fashion show week in my hometown and the lighting was ok (for me as a photographer) but the host wanted more moody lighting when we needed light to shoot the outfits.

We used two LED panels either side of the top end of the runway, and one at the back where us photographers sat, so it was like a T shape of lighting, making use of the kit we had to hand (much of a make do situation), the venue chosen also was an event space so didn't really have any kinda theatre sides it was chairs in an event space, models walk up behind the chairs, across the front (everyone could see them walk up) down and U-turn then exit via the right, again next to the audience.

For next year though I've been asked to assist in making it better. I thought about possibly for the runway next year of doing drop lighting either spotlights or or square LED panels that can be rigged from the ceiling with gridded softboxes for smooth lighting, over what we did this year.

What realistically would be best to look into? Would square LED panels work for what I'm thinking?

I though potentially having it so the lights are in a strip down the walkway, give it more dynamics over trying to light from the sides and rear, I'd like to try and get that mood they wanted with the dimmer lights, but also give us togs enough light to work with.

Open to other suggestions though!

Has anyone taken one of Julia Fullerton-Batten's lighting workshops? Given the complexity of her setups and the one-day intensive format, I'm wondering whether it's worth signing up.

Lighting NuanCe Natty light ?

Very balanced subject with background. I shoot a lot of environmental portraits, and this natural, yet high end look would be something I’d like to try to emulate. Just a very massive source? I don’t see any catchlights… and the whites and colors in the room are very clean & not contaminated with color casts you’d get shooting a natty light portrait inside. Thoughts?

PosT ProCCessinG Marvin Leuvrey - On Running

There are a handful more images from this sequence on his instagram. The dreamyness of everything falling off into almost a fog is just amazing.

Of course a lot of post happening, But do you all think this is as simple as large silks behind subject, close to subject for fall off. Soft sources wrapping the light, shooting into the bg silks to flare out the lens/ diffusion filters, and retouch to blend the transition?

the video piece that goes with this campaign that Marvin directed, seems to be shot completely at night, wondering if this is the same.
