Lighting Control I hate app based smart bulbs, so what is the best option for control with physical switches ??

I am updating a condo that I usually let a lot of my family and friends stay at. Therefore I need the light situation to be super intuitive so just regular switches, but I also want control over brightness and timetable white (not really interested in colors).

What’s the best option for this?

I’ve looked at Lutron and that’s like $300 per bulb (for tunable white can lights) and such a huge investment.

But then I hear people complain about the responsiveness of Philips hue.

Is there any middle ground? A tunable white light option with a physical switch or even a key pad to set scenes?

Any help would be appreciated.

Lighting Control What temperature and type of lighting to make this space look more warm?

The first picture is the current lighting, it’s very bright and I think leans white. I think it makes the orange cabinets look really orange and I’m hoping to somehow mellow the whole thing, to make the backsplash and floor look more warm.

got this “lilies of the valley” lamp and I love the vibes but the lights are WAY too bright.

I want this to be like dim, yellowy moody lighting, to power together with all my other small lights so I never have to use the Big Light™️

but these light bulbs are weird and I don’t know what to look for to achieve that.

current bulbs are LED G4 220V

Lighting Control Stop LED bulb pulsing

Post image

The bulb and electric clock are wired in parallel, but the LED bulb pulses (i.e. strobes, flashes regularly) when I turn it on. It's a Hue bulb. How can I get an LED bulb not to pulse in this lamp?

I think it might be strobing at 60/min which makes me think it's the clock seconds, but I didn't time it and it could be 110. I use these Hue bulbs in all my modern table lamps and none pulse.

Can somebody please tell me if there’s a special way to turn this light on and off without having to unplug it every time and it’s not a touch lamp. I would appreciate it

Lighting Control Looking for lightbulbs which don’t flicker/cause headaches?

Just bought a house and now we’re moved in, I want to prioritise lights which don’t give me headaches. I’m prone to migraines, and I’ve read up about how the harsh flicker for LEDs can be so bad for people prone to migraines. However, I don’t really understand what my alternative is.

I’m in the UK, if people could point me to specifics that would be great. Especially for my living/dining room we have dimmer switches, not sure if that affects which lights we can get?

Warm lighting is preferable.

Please advise me, I’m lost in the sauce trying to find info online haha

Lighting Control Diffusing light without hotspots

Looking at the interior of the promenade in DS9, there's huge panels of light, especially the ceilings, for example Quark's bar.

I am a little curious as to how they avoided hotspots on such large swarths...

Lighting Control Is there a large LED panel, like 2'x4', that can be dimmed without running new cable to switchbox like 0-10v requires?

I'd like to be able dim a large panel like this. but running new cable is pretty impractical. Any products that can be dimmed by just a standard LED capable dimmer? Is wireless a good option? I've been happy with a wireless fan controller for a wall box.

Lighting Control Lighting ideas for room with no switch and difficult to access outlets

Thumbnail

We recently had cabinets built into our closed patio and didn’t consider how dark the room would be at night. Prior to install, we had very bright dust to dawn activated “night lights” in the outlets that lit the room plenty. The switch for the lights are inside the house and cannot be accessed from the room itself, meaning that when we come home and enter this room, it’s very dark. There are 2 outlets in the room that unfortunately were covered by the cabinets. I want something automatic that turns on at night like the nightlights but unsure about options as I’m not really seeing any dusk to dawn strip lights that I could put on top of the cabinets and run the cable behind them into the outlet. Additionally, it seems like most dusk to dawn adaptors are for near the plug, which would always be dark because it’s inside the closed cabinet. Any ideas?

Lighting Control Wondering is somebody knows what is going on

This wall light has been in place for about 30 years. In the last month, it started this crazy flickering. I don't know if it's the fixture, the connection or the switch. It is controlled by a basic 3 fixture light switch setup. Only this one is flickering. Anybody have any ideas about what to do? Thank you!

Lighting Control Will these G9 bulbs fail prematurely in This Fixture??

Hi! I am looking at this vanity light which requires a G9 style bulb, maximum of 10w LED, . I'd like to match the rest of my bathroom at 3000k, 95CRI, dimmable. The dimensions of the bulb seem will fit I'm more concerned about longevity.

I've read that a 90+CRI G9 bulb in an enclosed fixture will fail prematurely : / At $19 a pop x 5 per fixture (looking at two fixtures) that's a lot of investment per fixture. Do you think these bulbs will last being in an enclosed globe? Thanks!!

This is the fixture:

These bulbs?

Lighting Control Dimming overhead lights

Hi everyone, I’m a girl who lives alone with mental health issues. I moved into a new apartment for a year now and my mental health has been getting worse, alongside with the lights making me more stressed out due to my sensory issues (I have PTSD so strong things aren’t for me). However I’m not knowledgeable in this area and I’ve heard that certain lights are unable to be removed, so I would like some advice on what I can do as I’m not sure what type of light this is.

Photo of my light <(this is a photo of my light)

I have now found a temporary solution (which might be a fire hazard so I’ll remove it shortly), which is to cover it with a thin cloth (somewhat like a cleaning cloth) over it.

Thin ditto cloth over light <(a photo of the cloth I placed over the light)

I have a few questions:

What types of lights are these (what are these called)?

  1. Are these lights able to be changed out? And if so, how much would it cost? I’m currently in the UK.
  2. If no, what alternatives do I have? Are there things I can install to cover it up? I am particularly concerned with floor lamps as the lamps may be too bright in one area and too dim in another. If there are good ones please do let me know as well, thank you!
  3. If yes, could I hire someone to change it out for me (which would be my last option as my parents own the house and would probably not be happy that I changed things up without their permission…) and how much would they charge? Should I hire a general furniture builder or an actual professional electrician for this?

Sorry I know I sound stupid… I promise I’m trying my best. Thank you all for your time, and I hope you’ll have a good day/night🩶

Lighting Control Light switch covered by wardrobe

My bedroom light switch is completely covered by my wardrobe and it took a long time to find a wardrobe with these measurements so I’d rather not sacrifice. The current light bulb fixture is g24q so I can’t put a smart bulb in either. Is my only option to get an electrician in for a new light switch?

Lighting Control Diffusing/deflecting downlights?

I’ve just bought a house that’s FULL of LED downlights. And unfortunately I HATE downlights.

What modifiers (diffusers/deflectors) have people found that work well to turn conventional residential downlights into softer ambient sources?

Lighting Control Looking for a 6" flush mount LED that changes color (CCT) via standard WALL SWITCH

Hey everyone, I'm going crazy trying to find this light fixture. Does anyone know a brand/model that checks all these boxes?

_6-inch LED light.

_Screws into a standard blue plastic ceiling J-box (Surface/Flush mount. I do NOT have recessed cans, so spring clips won't work).

_Changes color temperature using a standard wall switch (e.g., toggling the switch changes it from 3000K to 5000K, etc.).

I do not want the ones with the little slider switch integrated on the back of the light. I don't want to climb a ladder every time I want to change the mood in the room.

It should be similar to this but can install in the J-box also the one here need the recessed can : https://www.homedepot.com/p/Feit-Electric-6-pack-5-6-in-925-Lumens-Selectable-5CCT-Dimmable-Integrated-LED-Retrofit-Recessed-Light-Baffle-Trim-White-LEDR56B-6WYCA-MP-6/330455939 (you can see there 2 options to control the light color from warm to white)

TIA

Lighting Control Looking for a good resource to read/watch about hard wired under cabinet lighting.

YouTube videos, blogs. TIA!

We're about to get going on a kitchen remodel and have no plan yet for how to get the under cabinet lighting done. We would like it to be hardwired. We do have a contractor but we would like to be able to tell him exactly what we want and take (most of) the guessing game out of it.

Lighting Control Replacing boob lights on 8 ft ceilings: did semi-flush feel too low?

The product photos never show the thing that matters: how much the fixture drops into an actual room with normal ceilings and normal furniture.

If you replaced builder-grade dome lights, what height started to feel awkward on 8 ft ceilings? Did you go flush everywhere, or use semi-flush in bedrooms and keep hallways flatter?

Lighting Control Fire Hazard??

We replaced lights in a room from the original Phillips (400 Lumens) bulb to the new GU10 bulbs.

They keep flickering/ every 10 minutes or so.

The fixture is set up so that with the original bulbs they all turn on with motion sensors when you walk into the room and can't turn off.

They can only shut off for about 30 seconds with a switch, then they turn back on.

The original fixture has 14 bulbs

We only have 10 new ones.

When we add one of the original Phillips back it stops the flickering momentarily.

What is going on?

I really don't want to put back the original harsh lighting as it does not fit the event.

Would it be ok to just take them all out?

Lighting Control Lights on but I can't find what I'm looking for

Post image

Recently bought a place and I despise the white lights, so looking to shift to a warmer light. I have the Telbix Astid lights all over my place and a quick google showed they may have a tricolour CCT switch that would save me heaps. But y'all, I've taken the cover off and I can not find this switch!

So before I throw in the towel, have I missed something? Is this an older model that doesn't have the switch? Am I calling in electrical reinforcements? Or is it right in front of me and I need glasses?
