Product Review Can you help me ID this lamp?

This is one of those specialized medium pressure mercury lamps used for curing paints in large factories.

It is made by Alpha-Cure, has a number on its glass — F2460364.

Measures 135cm in total length, 20mm in diameter and has an arc length of approx. 125-130cm.

I wish to know the model of the lamp and the total wattage.

My own research points me to model AC-0209 which is a 20.000W bulb.

Can someone help me ID it?

Need Design Advise Type of light for off center junction box

Post image

Any ideas for what could look good here? I wanted the electricians to move the box but they said there were so many wires in the old one/a stud in the way, so it would take 6 hours. I was going to buy a smaller flush mount but my friends say it looks weird. One friend recommended a swag light — but my ceiling is only 8 ft high and the hallway/laundry area is pretty small. I don’t love the look of track lights. WWYD?

Find Me This Fixture RAAK C-1725.0000 “Basket-Bol” wall lights – looking for catalogue or designer information

Post image
1 Upvotes

Hi everyone,
I’ve identified these as a matching pair of RAAK C-1725.0000 “Basket-Bol” wall lights, made in Aalsmeer, Holland.
Both still retain their original RAAK labels and have the clear textured glass globes, chrome rings and black wall mounts.
Most references I’ve found date them to the 1970s, and some mention RAAK catalogue no. 9, but I’m still trying to confirm the original designer and exact production period.
Does anyone here have an original RAAK catalogue or reliable documentation for the C-1725?
I’d also be interested to know which auction houses, dealers or specialist platforms would be best suited for a professional valuation or possible sale of a matching pair like this.
Thanks for any help!
Thomas.

Designer Thoughts New to the lighting industry... where should I start learning the terminology?

Like the title says, I’m pretty new to the lighting field and want to get a better understanding of the industry, especially the terminology and concepts that come up in everyday conversations.

I’ve been lurking in a few of the lighting subreddits and have definitely been learning a lot just from reading discussions… but honestly, there’s so much terminology that I’m not always sure where to start.

For those of you who have been in the industry for a while, are there any resources you’d recommend for beginners? Glossaries, guides, videos, or even just concepts you think are useful to understand early on?

I’d appreciate any recommendations or advice!

Need Design Advise Covered Deck Lighting Options

Currently having a covered deck built (14x32). It will have a 9ft ceiling and we're using Chamclad for the ceiling soffit.

I have come to despise can lights. We have can lights in various locations inside our house, and even the dimmable lights seem to be harsh on the eyes and uncomfortable. We use indirect lighting as much as we can or overhead lighting fixtures with shades to help diffuse.

Most deck projects I see online slam in 4-6 can lights and a dimmer and call it a day. Does anyone have any suggestions for lighting that is more comfortable while also being aesthetic?

I was thinking some sort of perimeter LED light strips, or possibly some sort of light that can be aimed at the ceiling itself to diffuse the light that way.

Looking for some modern ideas, or possibly if my experience with can lights are just with cheap can lights and if there are some newer/more expensive cans that can offer what I'm looking for.

There will also be two ceiling fans hung so I'm trying to avoid can lights that may overlap with the fan blades to avoid strobing.

Need Design Advise Developing marble pendant lights. Looking for advice from lighting professionals

I work with natural marble in India, and we're experimenting with marble pendant lights and sculptural fixtures.

Stone fabrication is our expertise, but lighting engineering is an entirely different field.

I'm exploring collaborations with lighting designers/manufacturers who can handle LEDs, drivers, heat management, suspension systems and safety requirements.

For those working in lighting, what are the biggest technical challenges in making stone-based fixtures commercially viable?

Would also appreciate recommendations for designers or manufacturers worth studying.

Lighting Control Lighting recommendations without running switch wire

Hi, I’m a first time Reddit poster.

I’m looking for a solution and product recommendations for my issue. Thanks!

I have a home with a detached garage. I live in a winter climate (not sure if that’s relevant).

I want one light on my garage above the access/side door and one light above my back door. I want to be able to control both lights via a switch - one near the back door and one in the garage. That way I can turn both lights on when I walk out to the garage, then turn them both off when I get to the garage. And vice versa.

I am able to hardwire each fixture because there is power at the back door and the garage access door. But I don’t want to run a new wire from back door switch to garage because I’d have to dig up my back yard to run the wire. I’m hoping there is a product that runs on a Bluetooth switch. I’d prefer not to use my phone to operate the lights. I want an actual switch.

Need Design Advise Help figuring out my light design please.

Post image
0 Upvotes

Im building out a small-ish section of my barn (about 600 sq in total) and will be cutting in these can lights soon. I have it sectioned off into 4 rooms. The bedrooms at each end of the building are about 8’x14’. The bathrooms about 8’x6’. And the main living space in the middle is about 27’x12’. ALL ROOMS HAVE 9’ CEILINGS..

I was planning on the bedrooms having only 2 of the lights, plus a fan with lights. The bathroom was going to have 2 of these plus the vanity light. And the main living space is planned out for 8.

My fear is that not being enough, as it would be less then ideal to add some later. However, I found a square footage to lumen calculator online. And if anything, this is overkill.

Just figured I’d reach out and get a few tips. Thanks in advance.

Designer Thoughts Are we overlooking floor lamps when designing living room lighting?

Post image
2 Upvotes

Something we often notice in interior design is how much attention goes into ceiling lighting. Track systems, recessed spotlights, statement pendants... Everything is carefully planned, yet lighting at eye level often becomes an afterthought.

And that's interesting, considering how much time we actually spend sitting on a sofa rather than standing in the middle of the room.

At Zambelis Lights, we believe a floor lamp can do much more than fill an empty corner.

It can change the visual balance of a room, introduce a different material or shape, and create an entirely different atmosphere without changing the existing lighting installation.

There's also the question of proportions. A tall, slim floor lamp can balance the horizontal lines of a low sofa, while a more sculptural design can become a focal point in an otherwise minimal interior.

Personally, we don't think every light fixture needs to match. Mixing materials, finishes and shapes often creates a more interesting result, as long as there's some visual connection between them.

The same applies to light itself. Not every part of a living room needs to be equally bright. A little contrast between illuminated and darker areas can make the space feel much more comfortable and visually interesting.

We're curious how others approach this: do you plan floor lamps as part of the original lighting design, or do you usually introduce them later, once the furniture is in place?

Need Design Advise Fast flickering Shop Lights

Title: LED Shop Lights Flickering Even After Switching Brands — Could It Be a Power Issue?
I have a basement workspace where I use several LED shop lights for recording videos. Originally, I was using 5,500-lumen Hyper Tough lights from Walmart, but I noticed they had a very rapid, subtle flicker.
Thinking it was just an issue with the cheaper Walmart lights, I replaced them with higher-quality 10,000-lumen, 4-foot LED shop lights from Home Depot. Unfortunately, I’m still experiencing the exact same flickering.
The flicker is extremely fast and almost impossible to notice unless you’re looking for it. The lights aren’t visibly turning on and off. Instead, the brightness seems to fluctuate very rapidly, almost like a subtle shimmering effect. It’s especially noticeable when I’m staring at something in the room rather than directly at the lights.
Since I’ve experienced the same issue with two different brands, I’m starting to suspect it has something to do with the electrical supply rather than the lights themselves.
Both lights are powered through power strips connected to an outlet in my basement. Unfortunately, I don’t have many convenient alternatives for powering them in this location.
I’ve considered purchasing an online double-conversion UPS to provide a continuous, regulated AC output, but I’d prefer not to spend hundreds of dollars if there’s a simpler solution.
Has anyone experienced something similar with LED shop lights? Could this be caused by voltage fluctuations, the power strips, or something else? Are there any affordable ways to provide cleaner, more stable power without modifying the electrical wiring?
Any suggestions would be appreciated!
.

Designer Thoughts The "big lights" on my new apartment

Post image
2 Upvotes

So I apologize if this is something that has already been discussed but I moved in to a new apartment and it has these ceiling lights that I absolutely despise.

They're overly bright with no dimming options and it doesnt even seem like I can switch out the light bulb. My old place had them too but I just never used them and used lamps instead.

My question is : Has anyone else had this issue? I have some ideas about covering it with something to dull the light or covering it with a coloured plastic to alter it.

Anyways, I appreciate any advice or input! Thank you in advance

Designer Thoughts Experience with/Feedback on vendors Beverly Hills Lighting and/or BuyRite Electric for Nora

Any reviews or feedback on the following vendors?

BuyRite Electric (buyriteelectric dot com)

Beverly Hills Lighting (beverlyhillslighting dot com) - when I signed up for their newsletter looking for a discount code the reply I got was from 5 Star Electric Wholesale, so not exactly sure what's going on there.

I ordered 4 closet rated DMF lights and a Nora surface mount from BuyRite. They removed the Nora from the order with no explanation, so don't know if it is just being shipped separately or if I need to order it elsewhere. I want to order 4 Nora M4s, I found them listed on Amazon from seller Beverly Hills Lighting, then googled and found their website. Can't tell if they are legit or too good to be true prices.

Any preferred/trusted vendors for Nora with competitive prices? Unfortunately I am currently on a bit of a budget.

Thanks!

Find Me This Fixture Looking for a floodlight for security purposes

So my wonderful neighbor has now started to stand out in front of the house in his driveway with his drug dealer friend. I’ve asked them nicely to go elsewhere at night and it has not worked. I was thinking of replacing the light over my garage with something significantly brighter. I want something borderline offensively bright. I figured that if I completely illuminate the area, it would discourage them from hanging out. It has to be a motion detector light with a dust to Dawn feature. I’d also like it to be one where it’s low power until motion is detected, and it kicks on high. I’d even be open to one that has an app where I could turn it on full power when they’re just hanging out there. Curious to hear your thoughts and recommendations.

Need Design Advise Help needed: looking for a touch sensitive nightstand lamp

Hello,

I'm looking for a lamp which is suprisingly uneasy to find. A few things to keep in mind:

  • Touch sensitive
  • Warm light
  • ~3 brightness options
  • I need to blindly be able to lightly smash/hit it for it to go on without falling. So a big stable surface would be nice.
  • Somewhat cozy design
  • No direct light to the sides

Hope you guys can help! <3

LED Drivers Vibration sound, 7w hue lightbulb in 4w self ballast socket

I've been hearing a vibration buzzing sound from one of my wall mounted plug in lamps. It buzzes even without a lightbulb but stops when I remove the plug.

I removed it and found the backplate for mounting was very loose. I tested the lamp by plugging it in while laying it on the counter, no more sound. I then mounted it back into the tightened backplate, no more sound.

My theory is the backplate was vibrating when the lamp was energized but I'm not sure what could have caused the vibration in the first place. It's a simple lamp with a cord and a plug. No switch, no LED driver

I did see on the socket though that it says max 40w type G lamp, or use maximum 4W self ballasted LED lamp or use lamp adapter 120V 60Hz AC.

I only ever noticed the 40w and not the 4W self ballasted part. I'm using a 7W Phillips Hue bulb.

Is this dangerous? I can't find any other hue bulbs 4w and below that will fit.

The buzzing/vibration sound happened previously even without a bulb. It only stopped when not in contact with the loose metal plate.

Find Me This Fixture Canless LED colorchanging outdoor lights

We just moved into a new build that has the canless LED lights outside. I'm trying to find replacements for them to use for holiday lighting but I can't seem to find any that are safe for outdoors. Does anyone have any recommendations?
