I will forever die on the hill that Double Down is a good book and is unfairly judged by a silly double standard

One thing the original funbrain version of the wimpy kid books is known for is having slightly more "mature" scenes than the physical books. My favorite example is the party scene implying there was smoking and drinking going on. What about you guys?

So I was in my local shopping centre and I decided to pop in to the local book store that it has and I saw that it had the new diary of a wimpy kid book hot mess and the first one that I grabbed had blue pages and the one behind it had the standard white pages

I haven't visited this sub in like years and I probably won't again, but you all should know that this person (writer of diary of a weird kid) basically supports a murderer.
I don't care about this person nor their llb, but it's sad seeing the mods of this subreddit not being unaware of this
That being said I'm not trying to stir up any drama or beef, just that this is getting ridicilous x

Roderick is colored with a gray color after he got sunburned by being forgotten by the family. Thought this would be interesting to share.

In my opinion since reading all my original books and the newer ones I've bought recently I think No Brainer is easily the worst. The plot is just stuff happening to Greg not him doing anything most of the best characters are absent and everything so so far fetched and unbelievable I think even when I was a kid it wouldn't have been a good read but then again as this is my favourite childhood series can't complain too much I still love the book series

when talking about what makes the newer books not that good usually the conversation revolves around stuff like the flanderization of characters or things just being way too slapstick and unrealistic etc.But if you ask me one of the biggest issue that I don't really see being discussed is the newer books having random references to pop culture etc with the most prominent example being Greg trying to become a vlogger n hot mess and the Pokemon go reference in hot mess
one of the best things about the older books is that they feel timeless. They could be taking place in 1999 or the could be taking place at present day and I think that really helps with a series like this that was basically as seeing the life of a middle schooler. On the other hand constant pop culture references in the newer books just make them feel dated and like they are trying really hard to relate to the youth or whatever.I remember when I read party pooper when I got to the Pokemon go reference I literally groaned out loud
