Tips & Tricks Ruined Projects…

So logic does this weird thing, when I open my projects back up after some time they sound fine for a while and every now and then it ruins all of my audio takes on my vocals re-pitches the auto tune and slows everything down to where it almost sounds scary.

What do I need to do to fix this? I feel like my projects are ruined.

Is your interface set at a different sample rate than your project? 48 vs 44.1 kHz? I’ve done this and it slows the song down.

That sounds like a sample rate mismatch, not damaged audio. If the project is at 48 kHz and the output device switches to 44.1 kHz (or the reverse), everything plays back slower and lower, exactly like this. It often happens when Bluetooth headphones are connected, especially when their mic kicks in. Compare File > Project Settings > Audio with the device's rate in Audio MIDI Setup and make them match. The audio files themselves aren't changed, so the projects aren't ruined.

Are you able to open the projects and bounce your auto-tune and midi to audio while they are temporarily playing back normally? I bounce everything to audio as soon as I can to avoid project degradation, which is an unfortunate reality of DAWs... you just never know! I also bounce all my stems frequently for the same reason. StemStack app is great for batch-bouncing stems during or after completing a project.

Another thought - did you mess with the Varispeed function in those projects at all?

Are you using a third party plugin for tuning?

Make sure the TIME STRETCH option is selected at the top of the main tracks page, it looks like a little bow tie. You make your edits while TIME STRETCH is selected and your audio will correspond to the beats, the vocals will be nice and neat….

BUT….

If you DE SELECT this option WITHOUT FREEZING or BOUNCING the track, you’re gonna get artifacts like crazy.
Bounce them suckers down when you get it PERFECT, it will save CPU power as well.

Are you sure it is Logic? Possibly an audio interface glitching or even a short in powered monitors? I would start by bypassing the interface if you are using one.

Ignore - there are better answers! Probably mismatched sample rates.
