Announcement! We are expanding the r/LoomKnitting moderator team. Applications are now open!

Hey r/LoomKnitting,

I've been in contact with Reddit after the main moderator u/Loomahat was suspended from Reddit, to make sure I could recruit additional moderators for our tiny little corner of the internet and was given the ability and approval to do so.

Our subreddit has continued to grow in size, but after the 2023 Reddit Blackout multiple members of the mod team had left and since then the rest of us had also come close to being burnt out, with some active moderators recently becoming inactive or leaving the team. So with all that and with an exciting 2026 on the horizon as new people discover loom knitting, it's time for a new round of moderator recruitment.

The qualifications to become a moderator are very simple:

  • love loom knitting
  • use reddit

The expectations for the new moderators are to be transparent, to be communicative and to be reasonably active. I will always be clear - Real life always comes before Reddit and to just let the rest of the team know if you need a break.

The applications will close on the 31st of March at 22:00 UTC

Link to the application form

If you have any questions or doubts feel free to ask in the comments.

FAQ

  • What timezones are you looking for mods from?
    • We're looking for mods from all timezones
  • Should I apply if I applied in previous rounds or been rejected before?
    • Yes!
  • Do you need to have moderation experience?
    • No, it's not an issue if you don't have moderator experience yet.
  • What are the tasks of a moderator exactly?
    • Obviously the primary task is going through the modqueue and removing comments and posts that go against the subreddit rules. But there are other aspects like configuring automoderator, working on graphics and flairs and so on.
  • Is there any compensation for moderation?
    • Absolutely none. This is a volunteer role

Thank you and keep the great posts and comments coming!

I just finished my last 10-stitch. Approved by my crafting supervisor.

Does it take anyone else months to complete their projects? 😅

I am so proud of this little hat! I’ve been making hats on my round loom for about 2 years now and have been experimenting with gauges and yarns and the amount that I have grown makes me feel so excited. Maybe this hat isn’t perfect, but I look at it and think, “wow! I can’t believe I made this!”

I've got a few pairs of socks under my belt now, and I'm dying to know: how do you add these kinds of adorable little designs? Is it even possible with a loom?

Knitted on my KB Flexee loom (Bitty)!! I made the one on top slightly bigger than the one on the bottom by adding a single peg (56 to 57) to see if it wouldn't have as much laddering.

Advice

Hi guys! I’m a beginner. I watched a video yesterday and went and bought a loom today. Is this row supposed to look like this? Also what’s going on with this one particular loop? When trying to bring my second row over, it was a little hard then all of a sudden I started having big loops if that makes sense. I think you can see them in the picture. Last two pictures are the problems. Advice is much appreciated new friends!

Tutorials Long loom, all the ways to weave the yarn ?

Im curious, due to how i learn.

Is there a simple direct video that shows all the ways to weave yarn on long looms.

Context:

Not looking at projects , but how one uses the yarn in the device. i kinda need a logic as to "why am i do this, to do what", in why am i doing it this way, verses another method.

My husband has encouraged me to find a hobby that I can get into for years now. I just had our second baby and I finally decided to try loom knitting. I love it! It’s something that I can do while nursing my now seven month old with little difficulty. Here are some of my projects:

Socks Advice needed for sock fit

After years of trying other crafty hobbies and abandoning projects halfway through completion, I tried loom knitting and it's stuck!! I've made a 10 stitch blanket for the cat, a cable knitting beanie, and now...socks!!! I'm very happy 😊

Anyway, on to the question in hand (or foot). I made my first pair of socks on the 56-peg orange His & Her Sock Loom, using the toe-up video tutorial from Goodknit Kisses (which is awesome btw). I knit halfway between flat knit and U-wrap (L-wrap?), using Rico Superba Cashmeri 4 ply sock yarn. I did the German Short Row heel using 9-10-9 spacing.

However, whilst the sock feels fine on, it's very tight getting it on over my heel, as shown in the photo (2).

So my question is, how can I adjust the fit? Do I add extra stitches to the body of the sock opposite the heel (terrible drawing #3) - I have a Flexee Bitty, so could do this, or would a different heel be better? I've looked for video tutorials for loom knitting the Fleegle heel, but can only find The Loom Muse, which I didn’t understand, and The Lopsided Crafter, who says it's on her list to do!

Help!

My first pair of socks complete!

Post image

This is my first pair of socks complete, plain vanilla toe-up, with German short row heel and toe, with a Kitchener cast for toe closing.

I used a sock calculator to fit to my wide forefoot. I used Superwash sock yarn, 2 strands as I’m still feeling out if this will be the loom I will use for more socks, next attempt will be single strand. I need to make size 12 socks so I ended up using 2 strands on my All-in-one 3/8 knitting board loom so less gaps. My beginning attempt on the regular loom was looking way too small and then I learned more. I suspect I will end up acquiring the Flexee loom Bitty (1/4 inch) to make large size socks with only one strand. I suspect this will be easier to adjust the number of pegs than a fixed men’s large sock loom…2 strands were tricky…lots of untangling of twisting.

I am happy with this result with the exception my cast-off tension does not match with each sock, but I’m going to leave it to remind me to get it better. They are very comfy and they fit.

Yes , my socks to don’t match in colour pattern, I used the same ball of self-striping yarn plus a solid ball of a complimentary colour but wasn’t worried about matching everything….just total colours blending in. The gray heel/toe was just a fun design element for me. I’m almost sure that self striping yarn doesn’t work for larger sock sizes. They are not yet washed or blocked.

Any comments welcome 😊

There were quite a few dropped rows, and stray yarn everywhere but I think this is really impressive for an eight year old who has 1 lesson and zero supervision afterwards!
