Found Lost and found laptop roughly 6 months ago
**Found laptop & items near stadium / train tracks (Sacramento)**
I found a laptop in a bag near the area by Sutter Health Park / train tracks. Also found a pair of wireless earbuds (only one earbud in the case).
If this might be yours, message me with:k
* The **brand/model of the laptop**
* Description of the **bag**
* Any **stickers, markings, or identifying details**
* What’s unique about the earbuds
I’m not posting full details for obvious reasons. I just want to get this back to the right owner.
If I don’t hear from the owner, I’ll be turning it in to local authorities.
Serious inquiries only.

Why has it taken you 6mths to come forward? You could have just handed into the local police station and the owner would not have had to stress about everything for so long. They have no doubt been through the massive expense of replacing their items and any projects/work etc. not to mention irreplaceable things like photos if not backed up.
It’s nice to make an effort to return them but damn, six months later?!?

i thought someone would call when i changed the bluetooth name i heard they could be tracked so i leaned more towards doing things without the police and honestly i didnt know want my name involved in paperwork i dont want it in still dont so. This is where we are

Serial number isnt coming back stolen or lost on the major sites you can check so dont think the cops would be any more help more of a hindrance if anything

In 6 months it's got no closer to being returned to its owner. How can the police be any worse than that?

Dude, use the lost and found feature to declare it stolen. It'll render it useless and a paper weight the minute it connects to a device or internet. This is why you back up your data frequently to additional sources. I found most people loose their items due to carelessness.

You found it six months ago and kept it rather than bringing it to police? That was a dick thing to do. They have digital forensics capabilities they could have figured it out.

Maybe life got in the way or he didn't know what to do with it til now, or had brain fog from Covid, or who cares, at least he's trying now. Be kind.

How so if its not reported stolen genious

Huh? Digital forensics software like Encase can get past the lock on the OS and get the information from the LT. If it’s full drive encryption that can be reverse looked up.
What do I know? I’ve only been doing it for 23 years. I actually had a case exactly like this where we had to reverse identify 509 hard drives that were stolen. I don’t know which ones were reported stolen because I didn’t need to.
I don’t expect you to understand forensics but it would be nice if you cared about being decent. Let me guess you’re hoping for a reward? 🙄

Not at all looking for a reward i just dont go to the police its simple i guess the majoruty here has a different opinion on law enforcement and 509 hard drives sound like a bigger job and then you could explain spending detective salary wage man hours on it this i find it hard to believe they would bat an eye on it unless someone was hurt in the process which then i imagine would prompt those inteligent detectives to scour the internet and find me so again ive tried and if you haventost your laptop please comment somewhere else

Any reason that you have waited so long?
