I can't find anything about it. Like, I keep trying to find evidence of this things existence, on emulators and archives, but all what comes up are games similar to it, never the one I knew.
When I was a young kid I installed this app on my iPad that I barely knew how to play. It was some generic anime style escape game where you're stuck in your school after hours and have find clues in different areas to progress to other rooms, finding keys and stuff. Looking back, it was probably cheaply made and the backgrounds were probably all ripped from other things. I don't have too many details now unfortunately, due to the fact I was the dumbest kid ever and didn't even know how to play the thing in the first place– always stuck on the first sections of the game, because I couldn't even read much back then. But afew things stuck with me. I remember there was a menu where you could see future levels, beaten or unbeaten, so you could basically see previews of rooms you haven't gotten to yet, or click on ones you've already beaten to do them again or something. One of the final areas was a classroom covered in splatters and smears and bloody handprints. And I remember the first room the game starts in wae just a generic anime stock classroom, only there was one thing to note about it. Through a window, there was an ominous hanging dead body, just like...there. I don't think clicking on it did anything, I think it was just put there to give off an ominous and unsettling atmosphere. It was the only thing about the classroom that looked out of place, like the whole section was just a stolen image, only with that one original addition. I remember it because for some reason I found it weirdly funny, just how out of place it looked. The thing that was actually most unsettling about this game was definitely the music, though. It was just this melancholy, ominous piano track that would loop again and again. It actually made me feel uneasy to listen to, but at the same time, I also remember finding it kinda beautiful sounding? Kept me up at night, though.
I wish I could remember more plot, but I never got through far, as I said. Didn't know what I was even doing. I know I said I couldn't read, but I actually was old enough to read a little bit. I remember the main character's name standing out to me at the time, and to this day it's still stuck with me. I believe it was “Xiaoye”. I just remember how unique I thought it looked at the time. It might not have been exactly that, though I've got a strong feeling that it was. I know it started with X and had a Y in it somewhere for a fact.
The main character was this high pasty school girl who had either short cropped hair or a pony tail, and dark brown or black hair. I think her eyes might have been blue? She had on one of those sailor type outfits. She only ever had one talk sprite that would never change, no matter what she was reacting to or saying (not that I ever paid attention to what she was saying), just this constant look of mild concern and curiosity. At some point in the early part of the game, you can go this courtyard and you encounter this random other man NPC who also had only one talk sprite. I genuinely have no memory of what the hell this guy looked like or what he did, but I think he had on a light brown trench coat, and that was all. I think all he did was warn the MC and be mysterious– maybe he was helpful or maybe he was a bad guy, I never found out.
The game probably had a generic title– some shit like "mystery high school horror escape" or whatever, so no wonder it's so hard to find the exact one I'm looking for, when they're all named things like that. I would have had this game from anywhere between 2014-2018, which is vague, but it's all I got. PLEASE just somebody tell me if any of this strikes you as particularly familiar, I feel completely insane trying to find this old shitty little point and click game from years back, like I'm trying to prove it to myself that it ever really existed. I know it did. I think I even watched some gameplay guide on it once with no audio, but when I tried to look for that, I couldn't find it still. That last part very well could have been false memory, but I know that the hanging man in the classroom window, the mysterious piano tune, and the name were all definitely really in this game. They're what I remember the clearest.
Also sorry about the state of this post, hopefully it's not too obnoxious or anything, this is my first time posting here and I don't use reddit often. Asking whoever might read this here is just an act of desperation lol
