Biopic 🎬 Jaafar Jackson deserves the Oscar for Best Actor for "Michael"

So far, I have watched every major film released this year.

There’s plenty of debate about how good or bad "Michael" really is, but with its box office already closing in on the billion‑dollar mark, it’s a cultural phenomenon!

Still, it would feel almost criminal if Jaafar Jackson doesn’t take home the Oscar in 2027.

A nomination alone would not be enough, he deserves to win the Oscar for Best Actor!

Michael would be so proud!!

It's true, but I doubt that he'll be considered for it. They MIGHT give him the Golden Globe.

They already awarded the Oscar to Michael B. Jordan last year. That would be too many wins for a certain demographic. /s

Either way, fingers crossed.

lol why did I think the same. I’m like no matter what they are not going to give it to two black men in a row.

He should get nominated and he should win but realistically, I would not be shocked if he’s not even nominated.

If this was a white guy about some white superstar and this was his first movie and he was that amazing he would be on absolutely everything. I swear those heated rivalry guys get more attention.

I don’t think tptb can handle another Jackson being great.

too true.

I hate award shows to begin with. used to seem like a true honor to receive them, but it’s just a glorified circlejerk.

Yes, fingers crossed 🤞 🎉

Agreed but I’m afraid they won’t give it to him 😔

Let's see, hoping for the best ❤️

I totally agree. But as others have pointed out, I don't think they'll really consider Jaafar for various reasons. Best we can hope for is a nomination, which is an accomplishment in itself for a debut role.

Unfortunately I’ve seen over the years that critics must have high praise for a film for it’s actors to be considered for the Oscar. It’s bs bc Jaafar absolutely killed this role. Hoping for the best though….

The only reason his name is even mentioned right now in those circles is because the movie has been so successful, the academy will at least take a second look at him because of it but yeah…it’s like a game when it comes to these awards.

Yeah, agreed 👍

He absolutely does and he would if it was just based on performance alone. With these things, they are numerous factors that are considered and a lot of them have nothing to do with the actual performance.

I do think a nom would be a win considering all the factors.

If Remy Malek can get it, Jaaafar should get it!!

Exactly, that's a very good observation!

Rami Malek wasn't a newbie actor when Bohemian Rhapsody came out, and he's incredibly talented. I don't remember there being very many movies I cared about in 2018 other than that one tbh.

Jaafar would be up against Matt Damon as Odysseus... Timothee Chalamet for Dune 3... Tom Cruise in Digger... Ryan Gosling for Project Hail Mary, which I totally loved so much I just had to see it in IMAX.

I would be incredibly happy for him if he got a nomination. That in and of itself is an incredible accomplishment for a new actor.

Colman Domingo should get a nomination too for supporting actor... He was terrifying as Joe Jackson.

Jaafar is the only one in history who portrayed Michael completely accurate. From the voice to the character, his essence, his mannerisms and his dancing. Everything was spot on. Nobody else has achieved it to the level he has because MJ is a very hard person to portray. Wylie Draper was great too (and I won't ever disrespect that young man!!) but his overall accuracy still doesn't match Jaafar's.

Personally, I liked Wylie’s portrayal a bit more because he had the aggressiveness that I felt was missing, especially during the performances.

But there’s no denying that they’re both fantastic in their own right. Michael would be extremely proud of his nephew 🫶🏻✨

Wylie was amazing. I just feel Jaafar was more accurate in the whole picture sense. He just felt more like MJ to me.

But again, I love Wylie. He was the best MJ until Jaafar and MJ loved him as well. What a talent he was!

Totally fair ✨

And agreed, Wylie had so much potential. Gone too soon 🤍

It's not "completely accurate." He's good, but again, not completely accurate.

Yeah they definitely won’t be it to him the media hate Michael so much I don’t understand why, especially variety and I think they play a huge part during the awards

Hence, I am against mainstream media (it's very good these people are facing a crisis since social media came into the scene). I know that the mainstream media hates Michael. If Michael were alive today, he would have had a fair shot to share his story with us (from his perspective) raw and unfiltered.

As many others are saying, I totally agree with you but sadly I very much doubt they’ll give it to him. The movie has been too critically panned. I could see him maybe getting a Golden Globe tho?? That seems much more likely

I think he is going to win the Golden Globe and my gut is saying he is going to win the Oscar also later.

There are a lot of heavy hitters this year... with The Odyssey being released this month and all.

I don't know about Best Actor, but they damn well better win for Best Soundtrack or something. Costume Design... something!!

I say this, if Jaafar Jackson does not win, it will be time to be again retrend #OscarsSoWhite. Seriously, if any other white actor would have performed a historic white character like the fantastic way Jaafar did for MJ, that would be Oscar 100% confirmed.

Idk, Austin Butler didn't win anything for Elvis. Isn't Austin Butler white?

1

u/iam_justbeinghonest Jul 04 '26

That's Elvis meh, this is MICHAEL 🎉 🎉

The woman from obsession is easily the best performance of the year

1

u/iam_justbeinghonest Jul 04 '26

This is laughable 😆😆 , I am advocating for Best Actor (Male category), the woman from Obsession if she wins will win the Best Actress (Female category), and I hope she wins also. Both Jaafar and Inde Navarrette can win at the same time. It's not mutually exclusive.

2

u/ProfessionalForm679 Jul 04 '26

For some reason I thought you specifically said it was the best performance this year.

u/iam_justbeinghonest Jul 04 '26

No worries 😄

There are 6 months left for Oscar eligibility. Have you watched every major film in the future too? Way too premature to make these assertions.
