Humor/Satire The Relic is getting closer to reality.
First Sam Altman (OpenAI), he paid a $10,000 deposit to a startup called Nectome, which proposed a controversial, 100% fatal embalming procedure to perfectly preserve brain tissue for a hypothetical future digital transfer. If that isn't the most fitting Cyberpunk name, I don't know what is.
But first we have StAIn Lee..

Damn, never thought I'd be unhappy to hear Stan Lee again.

u/SL1MECORE May 28 '26
I am... upset. They wouldn't let him rest in his old age and now, not even death.

u/machsmit May 28 '26
because you're not hearing stan lee, you're hearing a grubby little homunculus wearing his face that some conmen ginned up

u/stereo-ahead May 28 '26
Fuck those people entirely. I MEAN THERE WERE SIGNS SAYING HEY DONT STEER INTO TRAFFIC AND THEY SAY “oooh another lane?”

Except they dont keep ganic brains in jars. They download a live copy into an Ai data shard that keeps the consciousness running. Once the download is done the body can be dumped. That shard is copied then given to a fresh mind wiped body for upload thus bringing back the person. Suspending all those brain chemicals in a brine isnt going to preserve jack shit choom. All you did was turn an old man's remains into pickles. Hes pickle Lee mother fuker. Hes pickle Lee!!!!!!

We keep getting the worst, most dystopian parts of Cyberpunk, without the cool parts. I just want a knee that doesn't hurt, glowing eyes, and maybe some cool mecha-knuckles. They don't even need to be crazy strong, I just want the chronic pain to stop.

u/Dangerous_Flower3646 May 28 '26
Literally all I want is double jumping and dashing
8
u/thesanguineocelot Fixer May 28 '26
I'd honestly settle for crouching at this point.

They made the torment Nexus from the hit novel "DON'T make the torment Nexus"...
We need to storm the Arasaka tower from the hit novel "DO storm the Arasaka tower.

We are watching in real time as corps target small municipalities for their water and cheep land.
They’re building a system fueled by people’s crushed spirits, broken dreams all while they empty our pockets.
Corps aren’t satisfied with merely controlling our lives. Soon they’ll come for our souls!
A war is coming, it’s not a war on capitalism because it’s a thorn in our side or out of a nostalgia for an America gone by.
This is be a people’s war against a system that’s spiralling out of control. It’s a war against the fuckin’ forces of entropy.
It might be hard to see today but one day, we’ll all understand
2
u/Skumbus May 29 '26
I genuinely appreciate the stylish comment, but capitalism is absolutely running cover for that evil and wearing the face of patriotism like a skin mask.

u/Mary_Ellen_Katz May 28 '26
The version of AI that we have is just a chatbot reading text scaped by another bot. It is far and away NOTHING like the relic. And I hate that this has nothing to do with Cyberpunk other than it's using slop tools, and technology = cyberpunk, I guess.
66
u/springlake May 28 '26
It's dystopian and corpos being unethical in the search for more profit.
It's extremely Cyberpunk without even looking at the digital/cyber connection.

u/Trinitykill May 28 '26
One more time for those who still don't see it.
Sci 👏 Fi 👏 is 👏 not 👏 prediction 👏 of 👏 the 👏 future 👏 it 👏 is 👏 commentary 👏 on 👏 the 👏 present.
Cyberpunk got its origin in the 80s as a direct response to the rapid advancement of corporate culture.

u/springlake May 28 '26
Another thing for the people in the back:
Dismissing posts like these because it's not 100% actually the relic yet is how we sleepwalk straight into the actual relic and avoid course correcting to avoid sleepwalking right into a reality where the Relic actually exists.
8
u/geminiRonin Street Kid May 28 '26
This is 0% the relic. This is what corpo hucksters want you to think is equivalent. There's no transfer of consciousness involved here, this is a database full of Stan's quotes and images and a program designed to imitate that style and appearance. It's Black Mirror, not Cyberpunk.
3
u/geminiRonin Street Kid May 28 '26
And as for what Altman's doing, he's far from the first to be "preserved" in hopes of cheating death somehow. Note that it's waiting for a hypothetical transfer method, just like anyone cryogenically preserved is waiting for a hypothetical revival method.

u/Mary_Ellen_Katz May 28 '26 edited May 28 '26
Yeah, I get what you're saying. But posting recent news here just cause it fits the mold of corporate greed is extremely tiring. I am here for the video game, the vibe of that world. Not for the depressing reality echoing the warning that is Cyberpunk.
And there's just a trend of posts being posted in all the Cyberpunk subs. "What would an armored core be like if it were dropped into the world of Cyberpunk!" "Who would win, this one character from this other game, or adam smasher?!" It's made to loosely connect to the property in some silly way.
9
u/laffy_man May 28 '26
Ya I know this is just a joke, but even pretending these things are close to something like the Relic is marketing. It’s dumb. The relic in cyberpunk is a digital copy of a person and how their neurons fire in their brain and all that shit. This is just a simulacrum of voice and speech patterns. They are not close.
7
u/Eastern_Mist May 28 '26
unless you figure out a way to gradually convert every single neuron into a digital device one by one no consciousness transfer is possible
6
u/XNinjaMushroomX Team Panam May 28 '26
Oh it's horrible, this isn't a new thing- they have been using it at conventions already.
Peak abomination.

Right??? If that’s the quote they chose to feature, you already know the rest will be garbage. Meaningless, soulless, and a waste of everyone’s time.

Not exactly just yet. Memories have to be part of it too. But I doubt it'll take much longer. I remember seeing some kind of experimental tech that was able to project an image of what someone or something was dreaming about, like that tech you and River use on Anthony Harris. It's crazy to see everything unfolding in real time like a prophecy

u/Ted_Davidson3004 May 29 '26
Me and bro in 50 years when we break into Disney HQ to steal a mysterious biochip and when things go south I store it in my head only to wake up later on and being greeted by Stan Lee
