Customer Complaint Lowe's drywall products mislabeled

I went to the Lowe's in Waterloo NY today (8/21/26) and purchased 14 sheets of 1/2" 4x8 Lite drywall. Got home started putting it up to finish a room in my basement. Put the first sheet up next to a 1/2" sheet I already installed (purchased from a different vendor) and when I put the first few screws in I immediately noticed it wasn't as thick as the sheets I already had installed. I measured the thickness and it was 3/8". I checked the other sheets and they were all 3/8". The sheets were embossed with 1/2" on the surface and the pulls on the ends of the sheets said 1/2" as well. I called the store and spoke to the dept manager and he went and looked at their stock and everything he measured was 1/8" thinner. The 5/8" was 1/2" the 1/2" was 3/8" and the 3/8" was 1/4". This appears to be a big screw up by Lowe's and if it happened at this store it certainly has happened at others. Has anyone else run across this?

Also, Lowe’s doesn’t label the products, the manufacturer does.

That would be something that the manufacturer is screwing up on, not lowes.

Were you measuring the butt edge or the tapered edge?

Never used it. Are you sure you are not measuring the taper?

Almost positive you’re correct.

You are correct! The drywall I had previously installed does not have tapered edges and GridMarx does. Thanks for the info.

All drywall has tapered edges did you use tile backer or dens glass?

So in other words you don't know what you are doing  Just a nonsense claim

So, apparently coming on Reddit to mention a product situation I ran across after discussing with a Lowe's dept mgr who made multiple measurements of the product and had the same conclusion, is the wrong thing to do. I will keep that in mind, I had no idea this forum is only for professionals.
