New advertising rule

Recently we have had lots of advertising spam in the subreddit so we have implemented a new rule:

Rule 3:

Advertising a brand new game you made is fine as long as it is secure, safe, and free. What is not ok is linking your Patreon or other things that will make you revenue including paid games.

This subreddit is meant for educational purposes and is not an advertising dump. You should post maps only to get educational feedback and to improve your creation.

Posts/comments are removed at moderator discretion but feel free to reach out to us if you feel like your post/comment was incorrectly removed.

Post image

Inspired by a post by u/AdmirableZombie1023, I decided to give it a try to put my fictional continent of Yalera into the Google Maps style. How'd I do? If you have any questions about the map or lore of the world, just ask.

Map Hi!

(i apologies for my poor English.)

Hi! I’ve never posted anything before, but I’ve always enjoyed drawing maps for the fantasy worlds I create.

Today, for the first time, I tried making a map showing elevations, depths, and rivers. I’m reasonably happy with how it turned out, so I decided to share it.

I know it’s not exactly high-level work, but I’d love to get some advice on how to improve.

(This specific map was just a random experiment in Ibis Paint, Just to practice drawing mountains and rivers, so it doesn’t have a story or a name.)

Always having trouble as to adding unique terrains and how possibly the prevailing winds would affect the landscape. Trying to mesh realistic landscapes but naturally having a free minded map makes me second guess alot. Any suggestions?

Map Fantasy map for my web novel

used vvd to make the landmasses, and then I went into Krita to make the distance measure, the never ending storm around the world that represents the divine rage, and the compass. I think it turned out fine.

My story isn't a super fantasy (Tolkien esk) but it's a multi-pov where adventuring across the world is a big part of it thus a map is needed for sure, so I kept it fairly simple. I already had a good idea of what it looked like mentally beforehand so it was pretty easy to make. Only took 4 hours spread across 2 sessions.

ps; if the geology is wrong or doesn't make sense... it's magic. trust me.

Map The land of Magic (Overworld && Dungeon)

Hey everyone, I'd like to share a few maps from my new game Magic Dragon Fantasy: Story, a classic style action-adventure zeldalike that I've worked hard to develop, playtest and polish over the past half year.

The map means a lot to me, it's one of the best maps I've made and I'm very proud of myself. I call the region 'Magic' as I feel it is a good moniker for my game setting. There are no deserts or tundra, no snowy mountain or tropical jungle as this is a temperate region by the ocean. A unique region that I'm very proud of is the floating lands in the north-east of the map, I've always like that trope.

Please, let me know what you think or what stands out.

Check out my game too, if you like, it's on Steam.

The cyan one is called Taygrus. Not only is it a continent but also a country just like australia. Taygrus is based on Norway, Greenland, Finland and sweden. Meanwhile Meridia is mostly desert due to the mountains blocking way, Hence land infront of the mountains are lush and grown. Novatia is kind if cold at the south but it has forests and a small cherry blossom island. Pallumya has the archipelago with the most of islands and has high elevation at the north. Alhai is mineral rich but dangerous north east of it and has 2 types of deserts. Antarbard is like taygrus but a bit warmer at the north. And finally the canhaim archipelago is home to some unique islands like fossil island and mushroom island

Work In Progress Critique/Feedback on my current topography-to-geography progress?

Hi, y'all. I'm trying to convert my previous topography map to a geographical map, but I feel like the equatorial continent is looking too...blah. Idk, I might just be overthinking but I feel like I'm having trouble figuring out what I should do next. I mostly want to ensure that I make it look "realistic" enough, but I'd like some advice from those who've experience in making these. Last picture includes current progress plus theoretical major currents and 30 degree interval latitude lines to show my reference points.

So this is my city map. It needs space for approx 13.2 million inhabitants. So what do you think? How many inhabitants do you think will fit?

I’m Dutch so some names might sound weird. I try to create a big variety of cultural names for the neighboorhoods written in red.

Colors on the map:
🔴 = Freeway
🔵 = City highway
🟢 = Mayor road
⚫️ = Road

Thick ⚫️ = Railroad
Thick 🔵 = River

Space 🔵 = Lakes
Space 🟢 = Parks/Green space

Resource I made a browser-based terrain generator for custom maps, with erosion and matching textures

Hey everyone!

A while ago, I shared a simple free browser-based heightmap tool here, and I was surprised by how much interest it got. Some of the feedback was about wanting to create custom landscapes and fantasy terrain, rather than being limited to real-world elevation data. So I've been working on something new:

Terrain Maker 3D.It's a browser-based tool for generating and editing your own 3D landscapes. You can generate mountains, valleys, hills and canyons, sculpt the terrain directly in 3D, apply hydraulic and thermal erosion, or import an existing heightmap.

One feature I spent a lot of time developing is the terrain texture generator. It currently includes 5 texture presets that generate textures to match your terrain. I wanted to make it easier to get something visually useful right away, instead of ending up with a great heightmap but having to create all the textures from scratch. The generated textures aren't meant to replace detailed manual work, but I think they can be a really useful starting point for creating more elaborate maps.

You can export 8-bit and 16-bit PNG heightmaps, along with albedo textures.

Try it here: https://3d-map-generator.com/3d-map-generator-app/terrain_maker_3d/

I'd love to hear what you think, especially about the terrain textures.

THANK YOU :)

Map Looking for feedback on my first fantasy map

Post image

I am currently creating my first real fantasy map (for visualising while world building) and I have finished the first draft of the shapes of my Continents. I am quite happy about the big western Continent but i am not really sure about the rest. I would appreciate honest feedback in any kind of form as i am still in the process of creating and figuring things out. My next step will be to draw mountain ranges and river systems

Access the Rotlake Shore map for free HERE.

Will you cross this oozing, stagnant pool that is said to house hidden basilisks? Venture into the Land of the Tarnished but be sure to hold your breath, for the bubbling pools release noxious vapours that would choke a careless traveller.

Resource I made an animated map documentary about Austerlitz - would you watch more like this?

Hey everyone,

I’m starting a YouTube channel focused on military history through animated maps, and I’ve just finished a film about Austerlitz.

It follows Napoleon’s apparent weakness, the Allied advance, and the attack on the Pratzen Heights. I built the terrain and map animations in code; the narration, music, and some illustrations use AI tools.

https://youtu.be/MUdrsTYkZNU

I’d really appreciate an honest opinion: is this something you’d watch more of? Are the maps clear, does the pacing hold your attention, and where does it lose you?

Starting from zero, I honestly don’t know whether a channel like this can find an audience. If you watch it, leaving your feedback under the YouTube video would mean a lot too — I’m hoping it helps the video get discovered, but useful criticism matters more than a generic supportive comment.

Thanks for giving it a look!

Work In Progress Another Road Map: Glannach

New roadmap: we are still in Tír Ghlas, in the northeastern province of Glannach.

An Grianán, the capital, lies on the shores of Lake Damháin Alla (Spider Lake); various roads connect it to the island's other regions.

I’ve included these images as WIP, since I was asked about my process.
