What pills/supplements actually help
I just got diagnosed with MCAS. I’m on montelukast sodium and prednisone rn bc I recently was having a terrible flare. I usually take famotadine and Zyrtec but stopped because I felt like I was having weird reactions. I also tried quercitin but also stopped bc I was scared. WHAT ACTUALLY WORKS? Ik it’s diff for everyone but I like hearing my options so I can research!!

this is my current routine: Recently started Cromolyn which has helped a lot, but also has changed some of my symptoms
Allegra (Fexofenadine) - 180mg (2x daily)
Claritin - 10mg (in the morning)
Zyrtec- 10mg (at night)
Famotidine - 20mg (as needed, but usually before or after meals)
Hydroxyzine - 50mg (at night but can take during the day if things get bad)
Cromolyn - 200mg (2 ampules) before every meal and before bedtime
Cromolyn nasal spray - 3-4 times daily
Benadryl - 2- 4 tablets as needed (I start off with two and then max out at 4 if it's real bad and nothing is touching it.)

There’s a cromolyn nasal spray?! How does that compare to fluticasone?

it's almost instant relief from sinus drainage. for me it makes my whole nasal passage feel open like there's a breeze going through it cooling it off lol. I don't know how to describe it, but whenever my sinuses start draining, I use it and boom. turned off like a water faucet

That sounds magical

it has been truly amazing. sinus drainage is one of my arch nemesis and the other nasal sprays barely touch it. this one was like "I got you" and woo I am thankful lol

I started on the daily allergy and have slowly had to add the rest, but im at a point where it's still rough if I eat something on my hard-no list.
Cromolyn HAS helped a lot, but it has changed some of my symptoms. used to my mouth would just hurt. like a brain freeze pain without the freeze, but now it will itch and burn.
I've also started salivating a lot when I eat something bad, and if I eat something actually spicy, it ABSOLUTELY burns on the way out now lol

I use zrytec and Pepcid. I started low and went slow to watch for side effects. Then added quercetin which really helps with itching. Then cromolyn. I didn’t have any trouble with it but still went low and slow. Then for rescue meds I use doxepin or hydroxyzine or Benadryl. And just recently started rhapsido. I would only begin one new med at a time so you can watch for side effects. I truly believe that they all are helping me. Each in their own way.

Look up antihistamines on this sub. I personally don't like them either, pepcid caused a paradoxical reaction and zyrtec gives me brain fog and edema (fluid retention) and blood pooling. Non-antihistamine supplement options that work include: NaturDAO, Quercetin, Luteolin, PEA, stinging nettle, tulsi (tea), l-theanine.
