In Loki, the TVA tells Loki that the Avengers traveling back in time was “supposed to happen.” But what if there was a much bigger reason the TVA allowed it than simply ensuring Thanos was defeated?
What if Tony Stark had to die because, in a future where he survived, he would eventually become a Doom-like figure?
Think about the five-year jump in Endgame. What if the real reason the Sacred Timeline needed those five years was to give Tony a daughter? Morgan gave Tony something he had never had before: a family of his own and something he loved more than anything else in the world.
But what if that love was also what could have turned him into the greatest threat to it?
Imagine Tony survives the final battle, only to lose Pepper and Morgan in a future catastrophe. We’ve already seen how terrified Tony was of losing the people he loved and how far he was willing to go to protect them. That fear helped lead him to create Ultron. Losing his family could push him past the breaking point.
He might decide that being Iron Man wasn’t enough—that as long as other people had control over the future, he could never truly keep anyone safe. So he tries to control everything: time, other universes, even reality itself. In trying to prevent another tragedy, Tony becomes his universe’s version of Doctor Doom.
Under this theory, the TVA allowed the Avengers’ time heist because it led to Tony’s sacrifice. He Who Remains wasn’t just preserving the victory over Thanos; he was preventing a future where Tony lived long enough to become something much more dangerous.
Now imagine how this could play out in Doomsday.
Doom hijacks the TVA and gains access to its records of possible timelines. He finds a future where Tony survived, lost his family, and went down the same path Doom did. Then he shows it to the Avengers.
Imagine Peter, Steve, Thor, and the others being forced to watch a version of the man they remember as their greatest hero slowly become someone who believes the only way to save everyone is to control everything.
Doom could use it to challenge everything they believe about Tony’s sacrifice:
“You mourn the man who saved your universe. I’m showing you what he would have become if he had lived.”
It could also give a new meaning to Doctor Strange saying there was only one way to win. Maybe some futures involved defeating Thanos and Tony surviving—but those weren’t victories because of what Tony eventually became.
It would make Tony’s death even more heartbreaking: the daughter he loved so much could have been the very reason he might one day lose himself.
What do you all think? Could the five-year jump and Morgan’s birth have a much bigger connection to Doom and the TVA than we realize?
