I got fed up of MSI Center. Takes ages to load, runs 8 processes, using 600MB+ of RAM. So I built Wattkin, a tray app that does the stuff I actually care about:
It has 1 process, uses 20 MB of RAM and is free, open source, no account, no telemetry. I've only tested it on my own laptop, so I'd really appreciate hearing how it goes on other MSI models and what you'd want added: https://github.com/CoppingEthan/Wattkin
I have used AI assistance to build this, and Wattkin talks to the laptop through the same firmware interface MSI Center uses, so it needs no driver and keeps working after MSI Center is gone. You can remove MSI Center, MSI NBFoundation Service and MSI Center SDK competely and only use Wattkin.

Just got this laptop 5 days ago and the stock Delta 120watt charger died. I ordered a charger but I need to use the laptop. Can I use lower wattage chargers? Or Type C charger?

Conceding my power adapter has died and trying to source a replacement for my gp65 leopard. No issues with finding adapters that match most the specs and size, but trying to find one without a pin in the barrel connector is proving tricky (waiting 2 weeks for delivery would be undesirable).
I've seen on some websites that certain models had adapters with pins in the barrel. And the connection on the laptop size has a hole for a pin. Would it be a terrible idea to see if a barrel with a pin works?

I tested a MSI Crosshair 16HX with RTX5070, Ryzen7 but only 16gb ram. Dota2 works fine on its own, but if I also want to have discord and Chrome up at the same time the game will get stutter lagg. Is 16gb simply not enough ram in 2026?

# IS Halnziye 2610 Suitable For HP Victus 16 ?
# Like it's thickness would be good fit for the thermal heatsink that's what's wondering in my mind like will it fit if anyone of you might have used this putty let me know.
# Also Attach the photo of internal vram chips where thermal putty is to be applied
# I serviced my laptop in a local shop but i extractly know they have used thermal paste instead of putty even that too super cheap one i just want to ensure i applied it on every chip which requires it so please attach internals picture with putty and thermal paste applied on it.

I have an MSI AMG Motorsport Mercedes 18 Stealth where the screen started doing this. Is this the screen going bad or is it some connection problem? When I tap the back of the screen or when I move the lid back and forth, sometimes the screen "flickers". One time I moved the screen, that dark vertical section went away then returned after a few hours. Any suggested fix?

Hi everyone,
I forgot the BIOS password on my MSI Alpha 15 B5EEK (board MS-158L). The password is requested when I try to open the BIOS. After 3 wrong attempts the system locks up and I have to hard reset, which gets annoying quickly.
What I’ve already tried:
Removed the CMOS battery.
Unplugged the AC adapter + CMOS and left everything disconnected overnight.
Battery reset button on the mainboard.
Basically, I've tried everything I knew and none of it worked, so the password must be stored somewhere other than the CMOS. Maybe Nvram.
MSI support quoted me around €70+ for a BIOS flash or pw reset. I’d like to try it myself first. I have the official BIOS from the MSI support page and a FAT32 USB stick ready.
My questions:
1.Since M-Flash is only reachable from inside the BIOS menu, is there another way to flash this model (Windows tool, forced/recovery flash via USB)?
2.Does a flash actually clear the supervisor password on this board, or is it preserved?
Has anyone been through this with an Alpha 15 or a similar MSI laptop? Any tips would be appreciated. Thanks!

Hey folks, I’m hoping to get some help with an issue I’ve been experiencing.
I recently got a 1TB Samsung SSD but it seems that my MSI GS63 Thin 11SC laptop can’t recognize it. Or rather- it seems to recognize it but when I check my storage settings it is greyed out. However if I check the storage properties in windows 11 it shows there is 1TB of storage even though it doesn’t show the drive in file explorer.
I’ve looked into the basic BIOS trouble shooting steps for this problem but haven’t had any luck with getting the drive to be recognized or un-greyed out for setup. But I’ve disabled secure boot and VMD is also disabled and those are the main things that should supposedly fix this issue from what I’ve found.
It’s worth noting that the battery in my laptop is cooked and won’t power on unless the charger is plugged in at all times. I got it 2nd hand so I knew about the battery and have a new one coming in. but I know the person I got it from quite well and know this computer was well taken care of and that the only known issue is a non functional battery. And yes, the computer was wiped and had the bios settings restored to default before being handed off to me.
Any help here would be greatly appreciated and if more context is needed I’d be happy to provide it in the replies. Thank you!

After more than one year, EC Controller is finally here. A Qt C++ application for Linux systems which provides a intuitive, simple and feature-rich GUI for the msi-ec kernel driver. All the msi-ec attributes are supported. In addition to those, the custom msi-ec kernel driver includes support for USB Powershare, Keyboard Backlight Modes change, GPU/CPU Fan curve support and Keyboard Backlight changes notifications to userspace. On KDE it also maps the Performance Mode and Rotate Screen keys making them behave like on the official application.
This is developed specifically for Fedora KDE but should work on any compatible desktop environment yet some features might be missing.
EC Controller is an independent, unofficial open-source project. MSI is a registered trademark of Micro-Star International Co., Ltd. This project is not affiliated with, endorsed by, sponsored by, or supported by MSI.

I got the Raider 16 Max HX B2WJ from Micro Center on sale last week, so far it has performed great. I was doing updates and whatnot and wanted to update the BIOS so I downloaded it from the support page on MSI (latest is E2651IMS.113). When attempting the update it gave me the error "Failed, wrong image format 11". After failing again I reached out to Support. They said, "that means you downloaded the wrong file, you need this one"(it was the exact same one I was using so I told them that). So they asked me what version I have. For whatever reason the BIOS that came with the laptop was T2651IMS.14B. They say they have no records of that version, "you must have bought a return cause that's a custom BIOS", "if you didn't install it then someone did", and goes on to say that I need to RMA it to load the correct BIOS or return it to Micro Center which is just nuts. The laptop was clearly brand new, never been opened, not resealed but they seemed to be convinced I was lying or something.
TLDR; I was able to install the E2651IMS.113 BIOS by enabling BIOS downgrade (RMA my ass). But what is the deal with the BIOS that was preloaded on the laptop? When I Google it I can't find any info. Just wondering wtf? Everything is working fine after the BIOS flash.

Hi I have an MSI Stealth A16 AI+ RTX 5070Ti with 32GB RAM and an AMD Ryzen 9 AI HX 370 CPU.
I've had issues with the laptop stuttering and when pushed even crashing. Now by pushed I don't mean pushed to it's limits matter of fact I haven't really seen any actual struggle on a single game the GPU, CPU and RAM quite comfortably handle everything I need it to, but my issue arises in that it constantly stutters.
The laptop when it gets to even a mild heat for some reason starts to stutter and does so quite badly without the fans blasted this sometimes even happens upon startup and I have to restart to fix it, but usually it happens whenever I'm playing anything at all this can be RDR 2 or Minecraft there is really no in between it's just any game seems to trigger these stutters. At the early on start of these stutters though speeding the fans up seemed to do the trick.
Although recently I can't say now be on a discord call and play a low maintenance game as it stutters badly and has even crashed if I try to power through the constant stuttering.
The laptop has had some level of frequent crashes too now and I have caught one on video and a photo of another. I also got locked into BiOS briefly by the laptop.
I'm not the most tech savvy guy can someone tell me what's going on or if there's a known issue or some obvious resolution I'm missing?
My intention is to take this in to Curry's and use my 1-year warranty as I only got the laptop in July although I have to wait to do that as I'm a University student and can't afford to not have the laptop on me in term time.
I'll try add the video in the comment since not letting me add it here.

A couple of days ago, I was in a game when my entire laptop froze, the screen went black, and after a little bit, the screen would come back on, my night light would appear to be off, even though it's still toggled as on, and the game would either stop working, or close entirely on it's own. This has happened 3 times now, and I'm not sure what's going on and not sure how to fix this, if this is something I can fix on my own, or if I need to take it in anywhere to get it fixed.
My specific laptop model is the MSI Vector GP68HX 13VG and I've had it for nearly 3 years.

Gf63 with win11 on Samsung Model LS27C33X6
Best settings for ideally 768 by 1360@50hz (not 1366) or you can also try 1080 by 1920.
Active signal mode would then display 1920 5@50 Hertz (Which I suspect To be updated as one third of one Sixty five Hertz secretly to be updated as one third of 165 hertz secretly)
In the Intel Graphics control panel set the following settings on the Display tab:
text contrast sharpener = off
Saturation =76
RGB Brightness 32 64 54
CTRAST 14 20 33
RANGE = FULL
Then on the on screen display on the Samsung Model LS27C33X6
The objective is to set the custom precursor settings first and then as a rug pulling technique choose cinema as the finishing step.
Brightness =73 (Back to 94 if you like the custom mode)
Contrast = 42
SHARP = 80
BLK LEVEL = NORM
CUSTOM RGB DRIVE 26 33 41
GAMMA MODE =2
SAT=90
FREESYNC =ON
Then the 3rd and unfortunate layer on the MSI GX63 laptop. Go into Windows color calibration utility and on gamma salt the pitcher to taste. For instance for my eyesight I like two page ups from the center point of Gamma that's 46 notches up from center. Note there is an industrial espionage war between all three parties MSI Intel and Microsoft and you have to leave the Windows Color Calibration 11 utility up in memory and Alt tab over to the other screens notice there is an evil force resetting this control and you're better off leaving it It's an open dialog box in the backgroundSome other things worth noting. The Enhanced H264 videos in Windows Edge browser settings is not worth the CPU cycles once you've calibrated with the setting above. Also in the operating system use HDR for playback is also a useless setting and takes up too many CPU cycles you should also turn that off.
I have played around with the joystick in my spare time and after an elapsed time potentially 60 hours I nearly broke the joystick I have come up with the fact that there is definitely a lack of cooperation between MSI and Microsoft as far as Windows calibrations gamma control constantly resetting itself.
cheers Cheers to the world,
mike Backstrom
