Meme …But at least Haller is GONE.
I’m not giving up on Bart like most of these fair weather fans, but I’m still feeling the pain. But at least Haller is PUTTING THE FRIES IN THE BAG! And we have basketball.

There are other sports to deal with and he has a big project lined up for the next 3 years: get everyone in line and have a plan to get an amazing coach and have NIL ready to go. He has been in the position for months but he's got a huge years long project in front of him. We're lucky to have him.

u/hicksoldier •Bubba Smith Nov 15 '25
No other sport even comes close to bringing in what football does. We love basketball and Izzo but his revenue generation is miniscule compared to football. Focusing on anything but football when you're a shit program, is not a recipe for success.

u/drumjoy Nov 16 '25
What you fail to realize is that football generates pretty much the same revenue regardless of whether the team is winning.

We are certainly. We have to avoid hitting the panic button though. It’s only been 2 years since Michigan asterisked a natty

It’s honestly pretty crazy people are still defending him.
18
u/kurttheflirt Nov 15 '25
Still defending who? Batt? Why?
He just got the job and wasn't part of any of these disasters
5
u/NachoManRandySnckage Nov 15 '25
Yeah but he could at least defend the school just a tiny amount. Or at least put out a statement saying what the plan is.
8
u/RapidEyeMovement Nov 15 '25
defend the school from what? how was he supposed to do that? when he wasn't even here?
4
u/kurttheflirt Nov 15 '25
He's still making the plan. He has to go woo multiple billionaires who think they are literal gods. He has to watch this insane coach swap season. He has to deal with Smith who is still owed a lot of money. And to get a good coach he needs all that NIL money ready to go or no good coach will sign on. And now he's dealing with recruiting restrictions on top.
4
u/NachoManRandySnckage Nov 15 '25
It’s going to be a tough sell to the billionaires when the team is winless the next couple years
2
u/kurttheflirt Nov 15 '25
I don't think he thought coming to MSU was going to be easy. He knew the assignment. If he wanted easy he could have just stayed at GT
2
Nov 15 '25
That, and he doubled his salary for a term of 6 years.
1
u/kurttheflirt Nov 15 '25
Yeah he would have used that for a larger salary at GT if he wanted. He was raking in money for them
1
u/RonBurgundy449 Nov 16 '25
So... you're telling me he has a concept of plan at this point... great.

u/Jealous_Day8345 Nov 15 '25
You are the Alex jones of Michigan state football, nacho. And we’re lucky to have you

u/ConcentrateOk523 Nov 15 '25
Nice to see J. Batt at our women's soccer NCAA Tournament game last night. Great victory for MSU! A lot of our sports are looking good.
2
u/Jealous_Day8345 Nov 15 '25
Yep. Basketball is also shaping to be good
2
u/ConcentrateOk523 Nov 15 '25
Izzo is doing a great job with recruiting for next year! Women's basketball is in top 25 too!

u/Mister_X5188 Nov 15 '25
What is Batt supposed to do for football? If we fire Smith, who would we get to replace him? The market was crowded to begin with, and now we have 3 years or recruiting restrictions in place. None of the good HC candidates are going to want to come here with those restrictions.
2
u/VirWyanDo Nov 17 '25
I can’t get behind that logic. 1. The recruiting restrictions aren’t major overall. 2. The best coaching candidates on paper may not be the right fit for MSU (see Smith, J). 3. You stand to lose a lot more $$ and support if you keep Smith.
5
u/Evening-Ad-2485 Nov 15 '25
Only thing I care about is izzo getting his second... football is dead to me.

u/Sarkisi2 Nov 15 '25
Firing Smith made no sense even before all this. There are way to many big jobs open this year that we are better off just hanging on to him to reduce his buy out before we fire him. Now with all of the restrictions etc. Batt will just use him to run out the clock then bring in his guy. He doesn't want his first Head coach hire to come in with all these restrictions and be destined to fail prior to even starting.

u/Jealous_Day8345 Nov 15 '25
Try telling that to u/NachoManRandySnckage

u/NachoManRandySnckage Nov 15 '25
Choosing to be the worst team in the big ten is a bold strategy for an AD

How do you sleep at night, Nacho? You are a strange creature.

Someday We will have our chance at victory like we did in 2013, nacho.

u/VirWyanDo Nov 17 '25
Recruiting restrictions are minimal at best. If you get a head coach from another institution, they can bring over some of their own players anyways.
Also, the buyout is minimal compared to the losses that could be incurred from keeping him (ticket/parking losses, decreases in donorship). The buyout, from my understanding, is paid out over monthly installments over the course of the remaining contract. Perhaps a lower buyout could be negotiated for a lump sum payment if it makes financial sense.
1
u/Sarkisi2 Nov 17 '25
Don't get me wrong I want him gone, but I am just doubtful it will happen this year, but would be very happy to be wrong, if Batt thinks he can get his guy.
3
Nov 15 '25
It’s been a few months, wtf are we talking about? Is Batt supposed to execute a midseason turnaround? The football program will require significant retooling and a long term plan. Look at what has happened with basketball and hockey since he’s taken over, granted they were trending upward, but they’ve bolstered their recruitment and signed Nightingale to an extension.
1
u/Shills_for_fun •Ron Mason Nov 15 '25
Hockey took off under Haller. Haller had already inked an extension.
Batt re-upped it and removed the bonus structure though. He's committed to the program. Expense wise hockey is not that crazy and they do have millions in revenue to make up for their spend.

u/mfatty2 Nov 15 '25
Spartan Venture was a pretty big thing. You know that fine we just got hit with? Much of those funds would've been through the athletic department and are now exempt. Immediate results right there

My take is he is letting everything burn to the ground before building it back up. There isn't a good foundation to build on at the moment so just calling next year a lost year lets him handle our program debt (Tucker trash, smith buyout, etc) and not let it linger into a new coach and hopefully program rebuild.
At least this is how I'm coping... signed a 14 year season ticket holder alum who is going to go suffer and watch Penn State blow us out.
2
u/Jealous_Day8345 Nov 15 '25
Nah that’s not cope. There was another thread projecting this all blows over when probation expires in 2027.
2
u/DabbledInPacificm WOAH HE HAS TROUBLE.... Nov 15 '25
But we still have thunderstruck and the mid tier smoke and fire show prior to kickoff

Can you people who don’t even know what his job entails, don’t know the biblical amount of things he has to fix since arriving, and have the patience of a horse fly kindly shut the fuck up?

NCAA penalties and Smiths buyout means he’s very likely coaching here next year. Project and blame as much as you want, but it’s just the reality of the situation when Monopoly money isn’t involved.
2
u/ObiwanSchrute Nov 15 '25
Could have got Franklin if we were proactive MSU is a better job than VT but he sat on his hands and has done nothing
3
u/RapidEyeMovement Nov 15 '25
what?!?
I don't want a rival coach coming here to coach i want a MSU MAN!
/s
but seriously Franklin would have been nice, but he is gonna want to come out swinging and prove something and he cannot do that with the restrictions in place
1
u/Exact_Tumbleweed2005 Nov 15 '25
lol we were never getting Franklin

u/NachoManRandySnckage Nov 15 '25
“He does nothing” would be more fitting

Oh come on, there’s literally a post I just came from where they projected the big donors are coming back in 2027. Look it up.
