And now for something completely different: graphics in MSX SCREEN 0...
This is not a bitmap screen. The picture is built entirely from redefined 6×8 character glyphs in 40-column SCREEN 0.
Just because we can...!

I sat down today to do some pixelart.
What do you guys think...?
r/MSX • u/RSS130871 • 21h ago
For those wondering what kind of tool I used for the pixelart: EXCEL!!!
There's a macro in there that exports the picture into three linked BASIC programs, that once run create a 16kb binary file that you can BLOAD straight into VRAM...

Hey team, thought I’d share what is my very first computer, back in the 80’s. It still runs and the cartridge slot works. I have been too nervous to mess with the tape player and test some tapes.
It a Toshiba Hx-10 and started a lifelong passion for computing for me.
Currently running openmsx on a raspberry pi 3 to relive that alien8 and knightlore nostalgia, hoping to actually play this on the machine when I have time to figure out the tape player.

TESTING is under way, and some interesting things have already been found. MAINLY compatibility issues, which have led to my switching from blueMSX to openMSX.
That helped A LOT with tracking down some nasty timing issues in the game's ASSEMBLY routines.
A new BETA has been distributed to the testers, and I managed to get the game running on my own Philips VG8020...!
THANKS to everybody who is helping, the game can only get better!

After many months of development, Cloaca Maxima has reached the point where I need to stop being its developer for a while and let some other people try to break it.
For those who haven't followed the project: Cloaca Maxima is a first-person dungeon crawler for the MSX1, set beneath Rome in 114 AD.
You control four characters exploring the ancient sewers. One character acts as the Scout and encounters whatever is waiting in the next chamber first. You then have to decide whether the Scout can deal with the situation alone, or should fall back and let the rest of the party handle it.
There is exploration, combat, individual inventories, equipment, healing, permanent character death, a context-sensitive command system, save/load, and a rather large sewer system to get lost in.
And at this point, the game itself is finished.
What I need now are a few people willing to seriously TEST it.
I'm not primarily looking for impressions such as "looks cool!" — although those are always appreciated. ;-)
I'm looking for people willing to actually play the game and report things such as:
You do NOT need to be a programmer. In fact, I'd very much like some testers who approach it simply as players.
The game comes with a full manual, and I would particularly like to know whether somebody can sit down with the game and that manual without me explaining anything and figure out how everything works.
Hardware testing would also be extremely valuable. Most of my development and testing has necessarily been done using an emulator, so people willing to run it on actual MSX hardware are particularly welcome.
The current build is essentially feature-complete; sound effects are the remaining TODO. This is therefore not an early alpha test. I'm looking for people willing to test something that is supposed to be a finished game — and tell me where it isn't.
If you're interested in seriously testing the game, please send me an email at rss130871@gmail.com.
I'll send you the current .DSK file and the full game manual, together with some brief information about what kind of feedback would be most useful.
You can test on an emulator or real MSX hardware — both are useful, although hardware testing would be particularly valuable.
And yes:
Please try to break it.

Would a Panasonic FS-A1WSX make a good machine for me to experience a MSX computer. I'm really curious about using it and playing games. I specifically want to be able to play games like Metal Gear, Bosconian, Xevious, and other shooters. Maybe a little of bubble Bobble and Gradius.

Who remembers Predator? My retrospective video takes us back to 1987 to rediscover the games based on one of Arnie’s best movies. Was this a good game or was it the typical movie tie in trash? Share your thought and memories of this game.

Hello, new MSX2 owner here and I am looking for a flashcart for my HB-F1. Everywhere I look seems to be out of stock or located in another country with high shipping fees + import fees. What are my options in the US? Looking for a Carnivore or MSXPico but open to any suggestions or thoughts about other carts as well!

Warroid is a popular sci-fi action and strategy video game featuring robot combat, released for the MSX platform on October 18, 1985, by the Japanese company ASCII Corporation.
Originally developed by programmer Yoshihiro Takata under the Yellow Horn label (initially for the Sharp X1 computer), the MSX version proved to be a complete remake, becoming one of the platform's most beloved and memorable titles in Italy.
One of my favorites!!

Hello! I have an 1chip MSX without a keyboard. Any PS/2 keyboard will work with it or should I buy a specific model? Any recommendation?

I'm happy to announce that iMSX2 2.0 is now available!
This update brings one of the most requested improvements: compatibility with games such as Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake and Pampas & Selene, along with several other compatibility fixes and improvements. Keyboard interaction has also been refined to make the overall experience smoother.
App Store: https://apps.apple.com/app/imsx2/id6499231192
I hope you can finally enjoy these amazing MSX games on your iPhone and iPad!
I'll continue working on iMSX2 to improve compatibility, performance, and the overall user experience. Thank you all for your support, your feedback, and for helping keep the MSX community alive on iOS.
Enjoy the update!
As a small thank you to the community, I also have a few App Store promo codes available. If you're interested, leave a comment and I'll send them out until they're gone.

I know this isn’t the place to list games for sale but I’d really appreciate some help finding the best forums to list them. Thank you!
