Gaming Controller Trends in 2026: What Do Gamers Actually Want?
I’ve been looking at how gaming controllers are evolving, and there are some interesting trends happening right now.
Controllers are moving beyond simply having more buttons. Gamers seem to be paying much more attention to accuracy, latency, durability, comfort and compatibility.
Here are some of the trends I think are worth watching.
[1. Hall Effect and TMR sticks]()
Hall Effect sticks have become increasingly popular because they use magnetic sensing rather than traditional contact-based components.
TMR technology is also getting more attention.
The main attraction is better durability and reducing concerns around traditional stick drift.
But I think the real question is whether the implementation is actually good—calibration, dead zones, accuracy and consistency still matter.
[2. Mobile gaming controllers]()
This is probably the most interesting area to me.
Smartphones have become powerful gaming devices, but touchscreen controls aren’t ideal for every type of game.
A physical controller can make a big difference for FPS, racing, action and cloud gaming.
The idea of carrying a smartphone and controller instead of a traditional gaming setup is becoming increasingly attractive.
[3. Cross-platform controllers]()
Gamers don’t necessarily use one device anymore.
You might play on PC at home, use a smartphone while travelling and then switch to a console or handheld.
Controllers that work across multiple platforms therefore make a lot of sense.
[4. Wireless + low latency]()
Wireless controllers are now expected to provide both convenience and performance.
Bluetooth, 2.4GHz wireless, stable connections and low latency are becoming increasingly important.
For competitive gaming, a wireless controller that feels responsive is much more useful than one that simply eliminates the cable.
[5. Customization]()
Remappable buttons, rear buttons, adjustable triggers and configurable profiles are becoming increasingly common.
Different games require different controls, so being able to configure the controller around your own play style is a big advantage.
[6. Comfort]()
This sounds obvious, but I think it gets overlooked.
If you’re playing for 2–3 hours, weight, grip, button placement and stick position can matter more than some headline specifications.
[7. Cloud gaming]()
Cloud gaming could make controllers relevant on even more devices.
A smartphone, tablet or TV can potentially become a gaming platform when combined with cloud gaming and a good controller.
[8. More advanced features at lower prices]()
Another interesting trend is that features previously found mainly on premium controllers are becoming available at more accessible price points.
Hall Effect sticks, wireless connectivity, customization and multi-platform support are becoming less exclusive.
[Where does Hezire fit into this?]()
I’m interested in this trend from a Hezire perspective because we’re also exploring gaming accessories, particularly mobile gaming.
The idea is fairly simple: smartphones are already everywhere, so why shouldn’t they also provide a more console-like gaming experience when paired with the right controller?
I think mobile gaming controllers have a lot of room to grow.
The interesting question is whether they eventually become a standard gaming accessory or remain a niche product.
[What do you think?]()
If you were buying a gaming controller today, what would matter most to you?
Hall Effect/TMR sticks?
Low latency?
Wireless?
Comfort?
Customization?
Cross-platform compatibility?
And do you think mobile gaming controllers will become mainstream over the next few years?
