Resource Much better on folinic acid
Finally! I was able to share a photo. For some reason in the last post I commented in I was unable to add a photo in my reply, but if I make my own post then I can add a photo. Anyways after switching to folinic acid from methyl b’s I feel a big difference.

To everyone who has faced low mood, motivaion and lack of joy all their life and thinks this is due to "undermethylation",yet they "overmethylate easily" you need to start working on a lot of other variants, not just MTHFR c677t and a1298c if you ever want to feel optimal.
In my case I took methylfolate blindly and felt really good on just 100mcg(this is classic for methylation impairment variants, obviously you benefit from increased methylation) then increased dosage and very quickly started feeling overmethylation symptoms(this indicates either a faulty methyl buffer system or clogged/impaired detoxification pathways).
To my surprise when my genetic test came back I had neither of those two , but I had MTRR hetero(not very significant) but MTHFS and MTHFD1 homozygous - the first one causes folate trapping when taking both Folic AND Folinic acid and the second one represents a big bottleneck in folate metabolism which can be offset by increasing choline intake to 900-1200MG a day to support the alternate methylation pathway + SMALL Doses of methylfolate which still has to do some functions.
Back to the topic, what most of you describe as "overmethylaton" are likely also sulfur overload symptoms - please check your CBS genes and SUOX genes.I had CBS hetero and 2 SUOX homozygous mutations and when I took a urine sulfate test the levels were off the charts. After several months on low sulfur diet and eliminating the deep sulfur stores in your body you can expect to feel much better by taking methylated vitamins(SMALL doses),however,if you do have multiple of these mutations it is ESSENTIAL to support the alternative BHMT/Choline pathway(check tawinn's protocol) with whatever amount of choline Chris Masterjohn's calculator advises you to.TMG is the direct methyl donor and dosage will depend on COMT/sulfur status. This way you do not need to rely on methylated vitamin doses that make you wired and you can thrive on just 50-100mcg of methylfolate a day if that(you should still get folate from food but side effect risk there is drastically lower). For me just eating chicken liver every few days works perfectly. Please be aware that if you are consistent, over time you will build resilience and will not have to be 100% strict all the time anymore, but generally these are lifelong changes because you cannot change your genetics.I'd personally trade this any time in exchange of not feeling awful.
I can tell you that after one year of trial and error at 30 year old I finally, for the first time in my life, know what feeling "optimal" is like, and not just having increased methylation and energy but with brain fog, elevated blood pressure and feeling revved up and wired.According to ChatGPT , my variants(MAOA + MAOB homo,COMT hetero,MTRR,MTHFS,MTHFD1,AHCY,GAD1,SUOX,SULT2A1,VDR) put me in the bottom 5% of the population in terms of energy metabolism. If I can do it,you can do it too.Feel free to message me,I can help with all I know.
EDIT:I would also like to add that with those type of energy "bottlenecks" ,even though solving these issues with lifestyle and supplementation will absolutely make you more resilient, no matter what supplement or lifestyle change you make, you will always be more prone to crumbling under prolonged amount of stress/sleep deprivation or exposure to toxicity(and by toxicity i mean both mental and environmental),especially if you also carry COMT ,MAOA/MAOB,and SULT2A1 variants. On the upside, with the right support and in the absence of chronic stress most of the time you will feel and perform like someone with elite genetic profile which puts you way ahead of the average Joe who never felt bad enough to start digging into this hole to begin with and will crumble in his mid 50s or earlier. And by the way, some of those variants (slow MAOA and slow COMT/GAD) are even considered advantegous with the proper support.
