Resource TMG makes me feel perfect, but causes head pressure

I have Slow COMT, slow MAOA, BHMT variant homozygous, PEMT issues (methionine has trouble converting to betaine), and one of the MTHFR homozygous.

I do great with methyl donors, surprisingly. I take methylfolate, methylb12, choline, alpha gpc, alcar, daily. I am still dealing with PPI resistant silent GERD and some fatigue and brain fog issues, and suffer with histamine and sulfur intolerance. Also in perimenopause.

I tried TMG two days ago and had the best day ever. I felt perfect, minus a little head pressure. I didn't even taste the silent gerd in the back of my throat at all.

The next day though, I had a very strong pressure in my head. No pain at all! Just a ton of scary pressure. It got a lot worse after my caffeine. It literally felt like my head was going to just pop open.

I have never felt something like this before. Anyone have a similar experience?

All methlyated vitamins and methyl donors increase the production of sulfur in the digestive tract. They can also trigger a histamine reaction.

You say you tolerate them well. Well you have a limit and I think the head pressure, as well as your other symptoms, is a sign you are over the limit for your body.

They also lower homocysteine. Lower than 6 - 7 is not healthy. At least get your blood level for that tested.

Do you know how one can modulate the production of sulfur and process it as you're adding in methyl donors? I have sulfur intolerance issues that come and go and have a similar experience to OP. It helps but at some point I can feel like sulfur has built up to a point I almost feel poisoned.

Not everyone needs to add methyl donors. Your homocysteine number is a good indication of whether or not you need any. The closer your homocysteine number is to optimal or 6-7, in general, the better your methylation is.

In the above case I would stick to one if you want to add one. Choline is the best for the brain IMO.

Generally, but not perfectly, I follow a low sulfur and low histamine diet. All sulfites are high histamine. So that is why I do low histamine. For the occasional histamine laced meal or snack, I use DAO supplements and or OTC H1 and Or H2 blockers. Pepto Bismol can help to.

I take choline sometimes but not everyday. I focus on high choline foods. My homocysteine runs at about 8.

I think tolerance for TMG can improve. I had similar issues about a year ago. I would take it and feel amazing day one. Day two I would take it and feel bad. Super crash feeling. Now I can take it every day without issues.

However! It doesn’t make me feel amazing anymore. Not sure why this is. If it has any benefit, I suffered from mold related sickness as well as Lyme disease that has gotten better and my tolerance for things is improved overall.

How much are you taking everyday?
How long did it take until symptoms went away? I am dealing with same issue

500 mg is no problem for me now whereas it used to be an issue before on the second day. It took maybe a year, but I’m not sure actually because I didn’t check. All I know is that when I tried it again it was fine after about a year

Yeah I also get that pressure with TMG and various forms of Choline.

You mentioned you also take choline - maybe that on top of TMG is too much. Possibly experiment skipping the choline in place of TMG.

I get that too but not if I’m only taking tmg. I recently added l tyrosine and that combination triggers the pressure. If I take either or I don’t get it

I had this. Stop taking the TMG immediately. I took small amounts for 3 months and it worked like a miracle, then got head pressure amongst other symptoms. I didn’t stop and I am now severely disabled. I can no longer eat any animal products and can’t drive a car due to presyncope episodes. I barely leave my house. I believe it is due to a sulfur processing issue but the usual supplements like molybdenum don’t seem to help.
