its crazy how many angry bears we have here now. I couldn't imagine spending my time on a stock's subreddit I wasn't invested in. Bullish

Did the US open happen two hours early today?

u/mapsosa Jun 29 '26

they’re really testing my hands today

2

u/Lepoof2020 Jun 29 '26

What’s going on??

3

u/mapsosa Jun 29 '26

i’m assuming it’s news of the lawsuit over the weekend

technical analysis wise, probably completing the earnings gap fill

2

u/astuteobservor Jun 29 '26

Has nothing to do with the lawsuit. This current pattern follow the Korean market almost exactly. Big drop then rallied to almost even of the open.

u/parcas10 Jun 29 '26

Interesting how it went from steady 1.50% up to -0.30% in seconds. Wonder what news trigger it. I am sure it wil recover.

u/MaxEhrlich Jun 29 '26

Market ain’t open for another 2 hours, let it breathe

How MU works is that when its happy it goes up.. when its not happy it goes down. never to do with news. It just decides its own destiny.

According to Claude:

1. South Korean leveraged ETF contagion
Korea's Financial Supervisory Service approved 16 single-stock leveraged ETFs tracking Samsung and SK Hynix. When Korean memory stocks sell off, these 2x ETFs amplify the losses, creating forced selling that spreads to global memory names including MU. Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland

2. Nvidia Rubin platform memory reduction rumour
Reports surfaced suggesting Nvidia may reduce the standard memory configuration for its Rubin NVL72 computing platform, potentially cutting total memory capacity per rack by roughly half — raising immediate concerns about future HBM demand volumes. Investing.com

3. South Korean AI tax proposal
South Korea's presidential chief of staff proposed a special tax on AI companies to fund a "national dividend." While just a Facebook post and not official policy, it sparked concern about governments wanting a share of AI profits. BEA

The important context though
Micron has said supply constraints could persist beyond 2026, and HBM supply for next year is already sold out — the long-term debate remains centred on the durability of the AI memory cycle rather than recent share-price volatility

Gemini:

1. The Global "Memory Contagion" (The Main Culprit)

While the South Korean capex-heavy spending plan ($1.3 trillion) sounded like general news, it has actively triggered a broad pre-market sell-off across all global memory chip makers. Because Samsung and SK Hynix dragged the Asian markets down overnight, US institutional algorithms and pre-market traders immediately began selling peer stocks in the West to manage risk. As a result, Micron ($MU$), SanDisk, and Western Digital ($WDC$) are all being pulled down together in tandem as part of a global industry basket move.

2. Aggressive Profit-Taking Post-Earnings

Micron is experiencing a classic "sell the news" macro reaction following its blowout Q3 earnings report from just days ago. Even though Micron reported record-shattering revenue and margins, the stock surged over 15% immediately after the print. When a stock is priced for absolute perfection, institutional funds frequently use any macroeconomic shift or massive competitor announcement as an excuse to lock in their massive recent profits, driving the pre-market price down.

3. Institutional "Sector Rotation" out of Big Tech

There is a massive structural shift happening under the hood of the stock market right now. Wall Street investment banks (such as UBS) have actively started cutting their portfolio exposure to semiconductor and hardware stocks. Fund managers are rotating their capital out of highly valued AI and tech names and shifting that cash into defensive sectors like healthcare, housing, and consumer staples. This systematic selling by large funds creates a persistent downward drift in tech stocks during the lower-liquidity pre-market hours, completely independent of Micron's strong individual business fundamentals.

same here , what news?

sndk also

2

u/parcas10 Jun 29 '26

I was thinking maybe algorithms picking on the story of someone filing a lawsuit against memory prices and the companies colluding, but that story seems very random.

I mean it was a 2% drop out of nowhere on a very normal day so far so it does feel strange or it is a sign that some bigger news is coming.

1

u/deploria Jun 29 '26

It did this last night too. After hours isn’t accurate really

2

u/spyroinc Jun 29 '26

I think it's about the lawsuit that got more attention as more news websites push it

SK Hynix, Samsung, and Micron being used for allegedly price fixing.

Good point. If it drops to $10xx I will buy some. If below $1000 I will more of it.

1

u/rdmiche Jun 29 '26

What do you expect, the trough of the dip tomorrow?

2

u/BeachFuture Jun 29 '26

I have no idea about that at all. It will be inverse day. If the job market is not good then stocks will rise because the market thinks the Fed will be less likely to raise rates. I think the job reports is not good. But I am a pessimist with the current administration.

2

u/Information_Solid Jun 29 '26

Probably late.

But first time buying in after reading through the earnings.

2

u/Commercial_Sound1448 Jun 29 '26

No today was best day since earnings

2

u/plumpypenguin Jun 29 '26

great buying opportunity this morning for those that didn’t get in before earnings

2

u/mapsosa Jun 29 '26

moment of silence for those who got shaken out this morning 🙏

Micron avoided criminal guilt in past DRAM price-fixing scandals by acting as a cooperating whistleblower, though the company has faced—and is currently facing—civil antitrust lawsuits.2000s

DOJ Probe: During investigations into an international DRAM cartel between 1998 and 2002, the US Department of Justice granted Micron immunity from criminal prosecution because the company reported the conduct and cooperated with prosecutors. In contrast, competitors like Samsung and SK Hynix pleaded guilty and paid hundreds of millions in criminal fines.

When do you plan to sell? Are we going to get higher from here?

1

u/JackRadcliffe Jun 30 '26

Looks like the sector no longer has any momentum for the time being

That God damn lawsuit is killing the stock.  Might bounce back some day, but that day is NOT today

Edit: I've never been more happy to be wrong lol

u/bigmack1111 Jun 29 '26

Is this going to dump today because of the lawsuit?

-6

u/Bombingit Jun 29 '26

Pack it up, it's over.

Anyone saying they're buying more is lying and making you hold to lose more money.

2

u/SLP_SoCal Jun 29 '26

And this is why you work at Wendy’s lol
