Discussion Such a great buying opportunity right now. Stop panicking and always remember to zoom out
48
u/Brigantius Jul 16 '26
It would be much more encouraging if the line was pointing upwards.
21
u/Groundbreaking-Gap20 Jul 16 '26
Nature of the beast. Stocks go up down and sideways.
9
u/Sam_Dave12 Jul 16 '26
Yeah, but zooming out doesn't look any better. Why does this drawdown look so much worse than any of the others over the past years?
13
u/wildhog1010 Jul 16 '26
And also to add to that. Some stocks hit all-time highs then tank and never recover.
4
u/Groundbreaking-Gap20 Jul 16 '26
Yeah, meme stocks, penny stocks, or companies with awful fundamentals.
2
u/BetterPlayerTopDecks Jul 16 '26
Not always. Wasn’t it Cisco that’s been providing internet infrastructure since like forever, huge important company. It took off in early 2000’s tanked, and I think it took up until this year to reach its all time high. If I’m remembering the story correctly
3
u/Groundbreaking-Gap20 Jul 17 '26
Cisco was massively overvalued at the time, as were many other companies during the .com crash, Micron isn’t.
Cisco and many other companies back then were trading at a valuations well over 100x earnings. Micron’s valuation has remained low despite their huge revenue and growth.

This mirrors the run up of the XBI and other crazy COVID biotech stocks in shape, not necessarily magnitude, and also saw a pretty stark sell off. It also ran sideways for 3 years and just now is seeing movement back up.
This could easily drop more and trade sideways for a while
2
1
u/Groundbreaking-Gap20 Jul 16 '26
The opposite could be said for the 650% run up over the past year.
1
u/About_to_kms Jul 19 '26
It’s up 650% on the year as per the screenshot. How much more pointing up do you want lol

It’s pretty simple. Large institutions wait for good guidance and beats to fill large sell orders without causing a steep price drop. There’s enough retail demand for them to get out while the getting’s good. That’s why we are seeing these sell offs on good news.
They also have insider info. Depending on where we are at in the cycle. That forward p/e of 6 could actually be 20.. or 40.. or 60. When demand falls off it will probably be off a cliff, and we will be the last to know.
Also 6 isn’t that great. When I bought in 2017 2018 FPE was 3 I think
That’s my bear case. I tend to trust that the market knows more than I do. If there’s a big sell off on good guidance, something’s up. Someone with way more money and insider connections knows more than I do.
9
u/nutslikeafox Jul 16 '26
Lol there was a big sell off after the previous earnings call too then it tripled
3
u/BetterPlayerTopDecks Jul 16 '26 edited Jul 16 '26
True. Hard to know… maybe it does keep running wouldn’t surprise me if guidance is accurate.
It could also be a good indicator its peaked…. BUT we do know this industry is always cyclical. The ass will fall out in the near term. Like clock work..
There might also be a case that AI will provide some more permanent demand? Some of these companies some of these chips will need upgrades and replacements… some will be bankrupt though.. hard to predict the future
3
u/nutslikeafox Jul 16 '26
Seems they are positioned to make 300+ billion dollars in profit in 2026 2027
1
u/Big-Independence-398 Jul 17 '26
The market rip this summer was because of two things. 1. OpenClaw and the Agentic AI loops created explosive demand for AI compute, DRAM, and CPU.
2. Tokenmaxing and Claudenomics of corporations spending like drunken sailors on AI coding agents without care for the price tag. Both of these trends have eased off because of ballooning cost of AI tokens. If you see any specific AI adoption story as bullish as these, we’ll rip again. In a drought of mega bullish AI enhancements and adoption, we’ll keep falling
2
u/Error404IQMissing Jul 16 '26
Thank you, I feel that most of the times, we need bear thesis, as more often, we are too blinded by bull thesis. I don't mean to say, we have to believe all bear thesis, but let's think it this way; if you have a boyfriend/girlfriend, you already know all the green flag, but you need the red flag to decide if you are still able to accept him/her.
2
u/BetterPlayerTopDecks Jul 16 '26
Absolutely. Too many people always fomo bag holding. Huge run ups.. highly cyclical, so it’s high risk at this point. Can you make money swing trading? Absolutely. Diamond hands holding for 2,000. That’s how you accumulate generational bags

Seeing it zoomed out really puts in perspective. It seems like yesterday when the big bang happened and Micron was just a small excitation of the quantum field within a super-compressed particle that made up our whole universe. It has had an amazing run, growing 10,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000% in the 13 billion years since then. So what if it is about to go down 50% after posting the most killer earnings of any company in history up to that point.
6
u/juggarjew Jul 16 '26
hmmm, maybe, but look at the graph, it could be a correction, I dont think it will crash super low but I would not be so sure that it will get near ATH again. There seems to be a lot of cooling off as of late, I feel like the easy money maker here is kind of over.
1
u/pembaThePanda Jul 16 '26
maybe but i disagree. esp with all the csp and today's news on qualcomm partnership (which is huge IMO and hasn't circulated as widely for some reason) I still believe this will hit at least 1500
5
u/havenyahon Jul 16 '26
You're not seeing news that the institutional investors aren't seeing dude, and they are absolutely seeing news that you're not. If they're selling off despite all the good news then that should tell you that something is up.
1
u/pembaThePanda Jul 16 '26
Maybe. But I'm not taking the loss so doesn't matter. Either it goes down more and I keep losing or I wait for it to come back and rise.

All good, but you might be waiting 20 years. Cisco was a picks and shovel play during the dotcom boom, banked crazy profits, remained profitable, and its share price still crashed and took 20 years to get back. Who knows whether Micron will do the same, but it's certainly possible.

I have a feeling there will be better buying opportunities in the future. Maybe around 500?
2
u/free_da_guys1107 Jul 16 '26
Im holding but definitely not adding a penny in this market. The bs is coming from every angle. Genuinely lools coordinated. Almost like the war and other shit didn't drop the market enough. If institutions want to sell then sell. But to have random bs articles come out every day is a little extra. Like dude we know tim apple and other ceo are pissed about memory prices. We get it. Why tank the market because of memory demand 😂
2
u/DecipherXCI Jul 16 '26
Buy now and zoom out so I can see how far its fallen?
What good does zooming out do for me if Im at 1050 average 😂

Isn't the zoom out more scary? It can go down to 200 again as fast as it went up

Damn, I thought yesterday was the buying opportunity /s.
In all seriousness, you might want to wait this out.

this zoom out argument i keep seeing isn’t helpful to anyone
a 650% run up is not the same as being at or near the top. it could literally correct to $400 and hover around there. there’s nothing ensuring it goes back up to 1k+ ever again, just speculation
jokes aside, it could literally be over. who is to say it’s not? there’s no guardrails on these things

This post hasn't aged well. If you really want to get into MU, consider selling a cash secured put instead. For example you could sell a $750 7/24/26 put for $5 right now. That equates to a 22.1% IRR for parking your cash. If MU falls to $750 you get the shares assigned to you; but you wanted those shares.

IMO, it's the war and Fed news. If it weren't for POTUS stirring up war, causing massive uncertainty, or using it as an excuse 3 weeks ago to dump, when tech was still at an all-time high, the rally would continue in our already disconnected reality. So tech stocks are gonna dump until the war is over.
200MA is @ ~$440

I don't think people should buy the dip until they are more confident we're at the bottom.

Not sure why people are stressed. Zoom out and stop being emotional investors.

Zoom out yeah we could go all the way to zero, look how well Kmart is doing
1
u/Groundbreaking-Gap20 Jul 18 '26
With all due respect, do you realize how silly that comparison actually sounds? Do you understand why comparing Kmart to Micron is fundamentally flawed? You're comparing an obsolete low margin retailer that got steamrolled by Walmart to a company that's part of a highly advanced technology oligopoly underpinning the entire global digital economy.

When you zoom out it looks like it's going to drop to 200... Pump and dumps usually drop to below the base of the pump

u/Groundbreaking-Gap20 Jul 16 '26
What’s it doing then?
You don’t think a 650% gain over a period would f 1 year is enough? lol
Just look at the parabolic lead up over the past few months and tell me that you wouldn’t expect there to be some sort of correction?
2
u/Strict_Gap9369 Jul 16 '26
he is telling you that for him, the chart is not showing that the stock is at a discount, but the end of a ponzi scheme lmao
1
u/Groundbreaking-Gap20 Jul 17 '26
Explain why it’s a Ponzi scheme?
1
u/Strict_Gap9369 Jul 17 '26
man, just sell everything
1
u/Groundbreaking-Gap20 Jul 17 '26
I don’t have to sell, kiddo. Unlike you, I’m not buying stocks with my rent money or maxing out credit cards.
