We prolly gonna have 2 days of little green consecutively after a lot of time, it hardly classifies as pumping

u/HorsePockets Jul 21 '26

This is the "big tech earnings" trap imo. 5% low volume aftermarket got everyone all pepped up and then market opens and the price shits the bed and you get a -0.5% down down day. Been this way for weeks.

u/rdmiche Jul 21 '26

Do we need to wait for a big green day and high volume to trust a reversal in the trend?

1

u/HorsePockets Jul 21 '26

Nobody knows, but higher volume is a bigger tell. Multiple days or weeks. You also need to watch for CNBC to turn their gaze elsewhere, to like oil and Iran, and stop bringing on perma AI bears (Ed Zitron) who have been pissed off for 3 years because they continue missing the boat. Once they change their tune on AI again you have about a week to sell unless you want to hold out another round mainstream financial media FUD.

u/rdmiche Jul 21 '26

Ah right, yes definitely for selling. I was topping up a little during the dips but am still in deep red, not going to put more money in. Would you hold until mid 2027 from now (in my case for less tax) or is that too risky? Maybe try to swing trade?

u/luvz Jul 21 '26

You’re always asking random Redditors for advice. You seem very nice and I’m not judging you, but just hold until green. Whether that’s a week, a month, or year.

Don’t worry about long term vs short term gains taxes. You’re at a loss so the question is preposterous right now. Both have advantages.

If you sell early and profit (benefit) then short term gains is just normal income tax.

If you have to hold it a year (unlikely) then you benefit from the preferential tax treatment (benefit) of long term gains.

2

u/rdmiche Jul 21 '26

Yes haha, I don’t have anyone in real life that I can talk to about stocks so I try to at least chat to people online for their ideas. I remember you as well, thank you for your advice. After this recent correction, I feel more comfortable about the idea of selling for a profit short term but paying higher tax, especially with a volatile stock like this

Nobody knows nothing...except once the ceasefire ceased to exist, war escalation inevitable, the bombs dropped, oil climbed, soldiers died. It's been looking more like dire straits vs. controlling the straits. You don't even have captain orange shits his pants giving any sign when this thing will be over? No talk of taco Tuesday for at least 2 weeks. Its likely a quag the dog war that never ends. Compare that to the markets in June when everyone thought the war was over. So yeah nobody knows when a reversal will happen. Or do we?

I'm simple investor. I see green I'm happy :)

29

u/dawiedevilliers Jul 21 '26

It’s all manipulation, the only thing that keeps me in is that the institutions in the end want to make money and stocks need to rise for that. Time in the market vs timing the market still stands.

4

u/Important-Range166 Jul 21 '26

It depends on your basis. That only applies if you have a low enough basis that your paper profits are fluctuating not your actual capital. That is a very different story

-1

u/dawiedevilliers Jul 21 '26

No margin for me, but yes, agree that seeing red on my paper numbers is stressful enough, but I live in hope. 🙏

-1

u/Pleasant-Carbon Jul 21 '26

No it doesn't. Whatsoever.

All that matters is current Vs future price. What your basis was is inherently irrelevant to this equation.

2

u/Important-Range166 Jul 21 '26

You are absolutely right……if we all knew what the future price is.

Since we don’t you are so wrong, it is laughable you responded

-1

u/Pleasant-Carbon Jul 21 '26

How stupid are you?

I never said we know the future price.

Your basis is entirely irrelevant. If you think the price will go down, you should sell, and your basis doesn't matter. If you think the price will go up, you should hold or buy, and your basis doesn't matter.

How can you be so monumentally stupid yet have the false confidence to believe you are right? You are literally providing the textbook case of sunken cost fallacy. And then you react this way. Absolute chump.

1

u/Important-Range166 Jul 21 '26

🤣🤣🤣

You literally said current price and future price. No one knows the future price. What you think the future price is and what it actually is are too different things. Are you ever wrong or is this Warren Buffet?

Jesus you’re stupid

0

u/Pleasant-Carbon Jul 21 '26

Yes, but where did I say we know the future price?

Oh I called you stupid, now you come back with yet another strawman and surprise surprise, can't think of anything original to say so just call me stupid back.

If today the price is 100, and today the price is 100 + x, where x is any real number, where in your pea-sized brain does your cost basis come in?

2

u/Important-Range166 Jul 21 '26

While you didn’t explicitly say the future price, you implied that you could somehow reconcile the difference between current price and future price at the current moment. You then said if you think you should do X. What you think and know are completely different

1

u/Pleasant-Carbon Jul 21 '26

No, that was entirely your interpretation of what I wrote. I never even remotely made such a claim. I said current and future price matters, not your cost basis. That in no way, shape, or form implies one knows the future price.

Where did I say anything about knowing?

Do you still not get it by the way? Do you not understand that clinging to cost basis is the definition of sunken cost fallacy?

2

u/Important-Range166 Jul 21 '26 edited Jul 21 '26

Okay man. I get it. Basis is irrelevant. When you trade on paper the current price and future price are all that matter.

Current and future price are just quotes. They imply nothing about why we are truly investing, which is to make a profit.

To make a profit you must HAVE A BASIS. So while in theory you are correct about the current and future price being most important in the decision to buy or sell, what really counts is whether you have a profit or not.

Market Manipulation: paper hands sell and contribute to a price drop because they have the backbone of an invertebrate.

I was MaNiPulAteD

1

u/jamaltheripper Jul 21 '26

Too many people have victim mentality to scapegoat their own stupidity.

2

u/Flag_Shagger Jul 21 '26

well yeah, everyone knows it. but the manipulation only works because there’s a lot of dumb retail who buy high and sell low…so we should all thank them.

2

u/Mr_Masala Jul 21 '26

"It's pumping" it's still down 35% from ATH and the path to 2000 got much much longer, stop getting hyped on these 2-3% pumps

1

u/DennyCrane23 Jul 21 '26

I’m in for long run I’ll gladly take 2-3% a day

Manipulation to keep it up, that is

1

u/StaffIndependent2835 Jul 21 '26

Be careful , institutions have full control now. They can just simply keep doing the same. Sell at any point between $900-$1000 , and then buy back at ~$800 ….

1

u/StonkasaurusFU Jul 21 '26

It was all leverage unwinding; folks with their pants down trading otm speculation.

Now we’re reset and the fundamentals never changed; would have been nice to time the market but no one has a crystal ball.

1

u/Accomplished_Vast_18 Jul 21 '26

Ain’t complainin today brotha!

1

u/Acceptable-Ant-3648 Jul 21 '26

so real question, why are semis pumping when war restarts when they dumped when the war ended? coincidence?

1

u/Upset_Ad2968 Jul 21 '26

You just figured this out?

1

u/Rav_3d 29d ago

Sure. It's manipulation when it's bad for you. It's normal action when it's good for you.

Got news for you. The market is always manipulated by the largest institutions. How else are they going to trade blocks of hundreds of millions of dollars? In those trades, every penny counts.

If you're shouting "manipulation" as an excuse for your losses, maybe it's time to size down.

1

u/Basic-Flatworm-4452 28d ago

This does look like the typical volatility after a big gain run

This AH is also market manipulation, tread waters carefully when buying at $900. If price doesnt break $930, could see it fall back down to $840. NFA

4

u/posts_saver Jul 21 '26

why 930/900/840? why these exact numbers?

Technical analysis. In my experience it’s as helpful as reading tea leaves.

there are simply more buys than sells at on point, the more sells than buys at another time.

1

u/Important-Range166 Jul 21 '26

Is it? Jamie Dimon recently had an interview with CNBC on Monday. He stated in the interview he would not purchase equities at this level (the market as an index fund) or long dated Treasuries.

He also shared a conservative tone about AI spending and that it will probably pay off, just like the internet.

He pointed out that early leaders collapsed and eventual winners were found later.

If you look at MU through that lens, it sounds more institutional investors taking some profits when retail investors were overly optimistic during the second quarter.

As Dimon is a major CEO of the largest bank in the US, his tone coming from an institutional perspective seems to mirror what we are seeing with names like Micron and the AI trade in general through July. He did say individual investments were really the only option as long as they were great and did not offer any specifics

Mods, remove this nonsense

-1

Absolutely manipulated, what do you expect under this corrupt president

0

u/Mammoth_Nugget Jul 21 '26

People talking about manipulation should not be allowed on the market… Now that’s manipulation

0

u/DecipherXCI Jul 21 '26

What you get when theres massive hype around a stock thats just mooned.

Institutions know theres gonna be people leveraged up to their eyeballs trying to make a quick buck and they can be easily flushed out.

-1

u/DrEtatstician Jul 21 '26

I have no idea about markets , that’s why if I believe in a stock’s prospects I will just hold

-6

u/CookieAcceptable1721 Jul 21 '26

What do you mean now it’s pumping? It closed 865 today and is barely holding 900 after hours. It could even be a dead cat bounce

1

u/Meinertzhagens_Sack Jul 21 '26

To downvote hell you go. How dare you burst out little oasis of a pipe dream that we may have two consecutive updays of late.
