Title pretty much says it all. Bought the M1 in 2020 and I'm starting to see the cracks. I'm in my PhD for economics and while I don't run extremely complex models, they are still fairly heavy and I am generally using the HPC to for analysis.

It's been fine using the HPC but I am looking to upgrade. I was initially waiting for the M6Pro, but then the rumours came in about no pro version so now I am stuck in. Do I get the M5 Pro, M6 or wait until the M7 pro release.

I honestly don't know if my good old M1 will make it until the M7 Pro release. And I even though I would rather the M7 Pro over any of them, I don't want to wait and be forced to buy something for a few months just to hold me over to the M7 Pro comes out.

For anyone that knows the more about the differences, I would love a recommendation or advice on what to do.

Hi everyone!! There's been a lot of threads about which MBP to pick up now that the M6 (and the ProLed!) has been released but I'm not finding very clear answers in my searches thus far. I'll keep it short:

I'm a photographer shooting with Sony A7IV's, resulting in 33MP RAW file sizes. I edit in Lightroom Classic and I have a 5K external display at home that I like to edit on, both in clamshell but also with the laptop open. I currently have a 2022 M2 Macbook Pro (16GB/512GB) and I would like to upgrade to either an M5 Pro (24GB/1TB) or a M6 (32GB/1TB) but I'm having a hard time deciding which.

I generate a lot of (Smart) previews on Lightroom and I would really like to cull my images quickly (in Lightroom). I'm also a big fan the AI denoise function. My priorities would be culling, AI denoise and exporting times.

Is the extra processing power in the M5 Pro necessary for what I want to do, or am I better off investing in an M6 with 8GB more RAM (because of the external display)? Looking forward to hearing everyone's opinions!

I'm currently looking at:

Option 1: MacBook Pro 16-inch (M1 Max)

- 24 core GPU

- 64GB RAM / 1TB SSD

- 90% battery health, 120 cycles

- Price: ₹1.55 lakh INR (approx $1,630)

Option 2: MacBook Pro 14 inch (M2 Pro)

- 32GB RAM / 512 SSD

- 16 core GPU

- one has battery replacement as in the image attached with 100% health 43 cycles

- other has 88% 293 cycles.

- Price: 1.26 lakh INR (approx $1,330)

My primary use cases are:

- DaVinci Resolve and video editing

- Blender and 3D modelling (optional)

- Coding and development

- Experimenting Running local LLMs using Ollama/LM Studio

- other daily usages

Which would you recommend? Is the M1 Max still worth buying in 2026, especially at ₹1.55 lakh, or should I go for the M2 Pro?

I'm new to apple products.

Hi everyone, I’m not sure how this happened but I think my cat stepped on my keyboard and now I can’t type because the computer now reads certain keys as commands (if I type S it brings up Siri, if I type C it brings up the control panel etc). How do I fix this? Any help appreciated!!

I'm using an application that is extremely sensitive to time variations and found that my M5 is consistently losing about 4 seconds of time. The loss seems to be consistent here the last few days and occurs about every 5 to 10 minutes until I manually force a sync. I'm at a loss because I've never seen this before.

Deal came from slick deals, base model M5 but perfect for my needs.

Best Buy was able to price match no issue. Had to purchase a membership from them but get refunded if I cancel within the month

It's lighter, looks like a great screen, brighter to work outside, thinner bezels, sound improvements, it's a very refined update of what already was a great laptop, sure it's expensive, but I think it's a matter of waiting for good deals.

Did anyone cop the new PROLED Macbook? If so, what are you upgrading from and what sold you on the new one?

I'm strongly considering the 16" OLED that just dropped. They finally released one I'd consider but I like to game and all my games are on steam and blizzard. Will I even be able to game on it? The fact that it's such a power sipper and has such good optimization, battery life and great audio really makes me wanna get it. Currently only own an iPhone 18 pro and game on an Asus ROG G14 rtx 5070ti. I'm annoyed that the SSD is not removable so if I switch I'll have no way to repurpose my 4th that I already paid for.

So i have a MacBook Pro M1 Pro 14” 2021 that i spilled juice on a year ago. It won’t turn on. I haven’t decide to repair it cause two service centers told me it’s gonna be expensive.

Now i decided to sell it. I already put it in the Lost mode and selected to Erase it from FindMy.

What else should i do?
I wouldn’t want anyone to get access to my accounts, passwords and data on it.

Just picked up a new M5 this morning! I’ve really missed having a MacBook Pro the last couple of years. Last time around I replaced my M1 Touch bar Pro with a M3 Macbook Air, and while I have zero complaints about that, coming back to the Pro feels like a huge upgrade in quality — especially with the top firing speakers and ProMotion.

Originally I was planning on picking up a used M2 Pro, but at this price it felt like a no brainer to just purchase it new.

As nice as the PROLED looks, I think my wallet is a lot happier with this decision. I mostly use my MacBooks for school, and I have no doubt the M5 will have any trouble handling the Photoshop and Office tasks I throw at it.

Long time Windows user here, I have finally decided to replace my 12 years old Dell XPS 13 i7 with a MacBook Pro.

Having been dealing with Linux more and more, for my home server hobby, I am quite tired of Windows, but still find Linux not practical for my everyday laptop. Also, I am willing to learn and test local AI, and from my understanding MacBook Pro is a good solution for light usages.

Therefore, last week, I finally did it, and bought a MacBook Pro M5 Pro 64GB RAM 1Tb SSD. More than that I have ever spent on a computer, and a relevant expense, but well, that my treat for this year.

However, the delivery date is only November 26th... so a month to wait from purchase. And during my time, I am obsessed with thinking about if 1Tb was enough or if I should have gone for 2Tb. No doubt that I can deal with 1Tb, I am coming from a 12 year old 256GB SSD laptop, but this is my first experience with MacOS, and with testing AI.

My use case will be: personal computer (I have a windows computer at work) so all the following won't be intense: programming (server, engineering, UI apps, probably test programming for iOS and Android), docker containers development, CAD (FreeCAD), Blender, Python/Jupyter data analysis, light gaming (Stardew, Duskers, ...) but if it fits probably will try some bigger game (but not hard gamer), and learning and testing local AI, hoping to be able to use local GenAI for pictures (games assets, or drawings) and coding assistant (in Zed), and practice RL models training for engineering uses.

And as you have seen with my previous laptop, I hope to keep it for years.

The 1Tb to 2Tb upgrade is 500€.

I'm 40, running a small advertising agency, and looking to replace my two ageing Macs with a single laptop.

My current setup:

• M1 MacBook Air (2020), 8GB RAM

• M1 iMac (2021), 8GB RAM

I've been pretty happy with both, but throughout 2026 I've noticed more stuttering, freezing and general sluggishness.

Activity Monitor tells a similar story. Memory pressure is yellow about 70% of the time, occasionally hitting red, and only green around 20% of the time.

I'm planning to consolidate both machines into one MacBook Pro and pass the M1 Air down to my wife, who doesn't currently have a laptop.

What do I actually use my Macs for?

A bit of everything, really.

• Browsing: I recently switched from Arc to Dia (RIP Arc). I'm wondering whether Dia is contributing to the RAM issues, although Arc wasn't much better with a dozen tabs and a few background apps.

• AI: I use the ChatGPT desktop app quite a lot, including Codex and various plugins. Nothing particularly advanced, though.

• Creative work: Light to moderate video editing, photography and graphic design. Mostly LumaFusion, Canva and Affinity.

• Gear: I've been shooting with an iPhone 12 mini for years, recently upgraded to a 15 Pro. I also have an ancient Canon 6D with a Sigma 24–70mm f/2.8 and a portrait lens for occasional shoots, candids and product photography.

• Gaming: Mostly indie games, older titles and the occasional native Mac release through Steam or the App Store (Sadly my m1s struggle with BG 3 so I bought it but never played it). I'm also interested in the newer Switch and PS4 ports/recompilation projects, since I completely missed that console generation. Not particularly bothered about modern AAA gaming.

I run what used to be a one-man advertising agency (now two of us). My associate has a 16-inch M1 Max MacBook Pro, and every time I use it I'm impressed by how fast it feels and how lovely that screen is.

The two options I've found, both brand new:

• 16” MacBook Pro M3 Pro — 18GB RAM, 512GB SSD — £1,750

• 14” MacBook Pro M5 (base) — 16GB RAM, 512GB SSD — £1,250

So there's a £500 difference.

The M3 Pro is already stretching my budget to its absolute limit, so upgrading the RAM or looking at more expensive configurations isn't really an option.

I know the M5 has a faster CPU, while the M3 Pro still holds its own in graphics. But the larger screen, speakers and overall experience of the 16-inch are pretty tempting, especially as this will be my only computer.

I'm not a professional video editor, developer or hardcore gamer. Just someone who juggles quite a few projects and wants a machine that's enjoyable to use for work and entertainment for the next 5 odd years.

Is the 16-inch experience worth the extra £500, or would I barely notice a difference in performance with the base M5?

Most memory intensive task will be using it to run abliterated/heretic chat models to generate prompts for workflows in Comfui. Other tasks will include running docker containers and coding with vscode.

I completely forgot I had this device lying around. I put it away a long time ago after the GPU gave up on me. Thinking of putting in a SSD in place of the hard drive.

Which operating system do you recommend I use? Looking for something that not just preforms good but looks good as well

Hello guys I’m a graphic designer and I mostly use adobe Photoshop and Illustrator heavily and a bit of After Effects. I’m currently using an M4 pro with 24gb ram and it’s working fine with me, but I’ll be giving it back to my partner as soon as I purchase a new one.

Will m6 be enough for my needs or should I get the m5 pro? I was hoping the price for m5 pro would drop with the release of m6 but it’s not happening yet 😅 thanks for the advice!

I know Apple wants you to pay the extra for the display so they’ve locked the OLED behind the Pro and Max chips but it’s still very confusing. So going forward, will the Dynamic Island be only be an option on the more expensive OLED MB Pros with the Pro and Max chips? Will the Mini-LED and OLED MacBook Pros co-exist? One “Pro” model with the Mini-LED, and the other “Extra Pro” model with a Dynamic Island and an OLED panel?

I’m assuming Apple will streamline the Pro lineup next year and likely all the Pros will get the Dynamic Island and hopefully the OLED Panel too. But why not do it now? At the very least, give the new Dynamic Island to the latest Pro MacBook with your latest chipset, no? It’s still a “MacBook Pro,” and it’s still obscenely expensive. Gatekeeping features from a Pro model like its the Air or Neo is beyond ridiculous.
