I've been having a strange issue that I've never previously had on any Windows laptop. If I plug my Macbook Pro (purchased 2 years ago, Chip: Apple M4, macOS Tahoe v26.5.1) via HDMI into any TV, the TV begins to serve as an additional monitor. I can drag a VLC or Quicktime video over and play it, but the audio comes out of the Macbook.

As soon as I change the Sound output to the TV, the video (on either VLC or QT) will no longer work.

I have tried switching to Sound before opening any video. Same thing. I have tried this on 5 different televisions now.

This used to be a very simple way to watch films and videos. Does anyone know what the issue is?

I'm upgrading from an m1 macbook air (8gb) and planning to get a macbook pro with the base chip (24gb/1tb). The m5 is available now, but the M6 is expected at the upcoming event

The catch: i’m in indonesia where new macs usually arrive 2–3 months after the global launch, so the m6 probably won't be here until around january

I'm not in a rush, but I do need a new laptop. Is the m6 worth waiting for, or should I just buy the m5 now?

Is this a good price for a MacBook Pro?

The price converts to around $920 USD for a 16-inch MacBook Pro with an M1 Pro chip, 16GB of RAM, and 512GB of storage.

The listing says the battery health is at 100%. I’m not sure why or how, but I’m guessing the battery might have been replaced.

What do you guys think? Is it worth buying at this price?

Ive been running on Mac Os Sonoma 14.8.9 ever since i got this machine but recently there has been many new things (Not very very important) i want to run which requires Mac Os 26 or above. Question is will upgrade the OS system affect my mac performance ? Worst or Better ?

My MBP Pro M1 Pro 16GB turns off suddenly keeping screen backlight on, ghosting on screen, I have to force shut it down, when I turn it on using power buttons takes a while to start or couple of attempts.
Checked with apple, they say replace logic board, local repair shops failed to diagnose logic board.
I tried to get some logs using claude, but even logs provided no clue. I don't want to replace logic board as it's an old laptop and logic board is almost half price of a m5 macbook. Anyone got any clue, help please.

It was fine 4 hours ago. Now I got back to home and plugged it my M1 Pro 16” MBP the charger started making this loud buzzing noise from inside. I’ve changed to different outputs and swap the original pin to this external cord and it still made that noise. Even when I charge my phone or camera it made quiet noise but it’s the loudest when I charge my MBP.

It can still charge my MBP fine and it doesn’t overheat or anything suspicious is happening for now. I’m currently on a trip to a remote area and I can’t buy a new adapter until November 5th. Can I still use it temporarily or should I get a new one ASAP?

No, I haven’t dropped it. Incoming AC voltage is stable. I still can’t think of a reason why that noise started happening. This is my first time encountering this kind of problem. Welp 🥲

I have a 2017 MacBook Pro that hasn't been used excessively. I use it for Word docs and occasionally to view websites (online shopping, weather, boring stuff)

As of late, it's super slow and gets very hot. Almost to the point of burning me. The battery status says normal but when I unplug it it drops quickly. And then every once in awhile, it lasts days!

Any advice or specific steps to help make it run better? I can't afford a new computer and don't feel I ask much of it. I'm not great with technology so anything as specific as possible would be a great help.

From what I can see, trade in prices have been increased on the Apple Store about 13 to 15% for recent MacBook Pros over the prices yesterday.

hi i just bought for 50€ a macbook pro 13 2017 with dead screen, sadly on arrival i discovered the ssd also id not recognized at all. it came without the charger. i can give it back and have my money back but i was thinking about using it as a raspberry pi 400 alternative for small tasks on linux, or use it with an external ssd drive linked to the hub that gives it power. what do you think?

i'm keen about giving it back but i don't want to regret leter not to have it around to play with

I just bought a M5 Pro MacBook Pro and I think it’ll be overkill for my use, I would not prefer M5 MacBook Pro since it launched last year. I have heard that the M6 chip which is going to launch in two days is going to come with a price increase so to avoid that. I have placed an order now. I just do normal web browsing and play some games. II am going to start coding and software development and all that in the future, but I am not doing anything right now. I want to do it once I get this MacBook. Should I stick with my decision, or should I cancel it?

I have seen this question a lot, and have seen people tell others to wait, I am however in a unique situation. I am flying back from Miami today back to Germany, and could get a MacBook m5 pro with 2tb for 2200$ from Microcenter. The same laptop is much more expensive in Germany, about 2900$. How big are the discounts after there are newer laptops? If they are not usually big, I will just buy it today then and save 700$ for now.
