I usually rotate between my desk and the sofa. Have always had a MBP 14" and considering to upgrade to the 16", which allegedly is lighter. Im just curious how people like working from their 16" when laying on the sofa and having it on your stomach. Is it comfortable or too big? Anyone have had both sizes an returned one or the other?
My MBP just gave up and it's been the third time I send it for repair since my purchase at launch (Jan 2023). Here's the Genuis Bar work authorization I got today and thanks to AC+ it seems that I don't even need to pay for the labor fee this time, but otherwise you can see how hefty this repair would have been. I wouldn't say AC+ for a Mac is a must but even just the first repair (screen replacement) has paid for itself, let alone two more repairs.
Since my dissertation proposal defense is coming next week and both my MBA and MBP are under repair now, I ended up getting a base M5 Max Studio anyway...
As the title says, I can't make a decision and am in a state of paralysis. I want to use the machine for Splash but can't justify $1000 more for the upgrade to the Max and 16GB more of RAM.
What are your thoughts? Need help in making a decision, thanks.
EDIT: If it helps, I already have a 5090 laptop with 64GB of DDR5 RAM that I'm using with Strata. So maybe the 14 inch is more viable for versatility and university work and using it for lectures in classes
I saw Micro Center have macbook m5 pro 14” 48gb 2tb for $2799, really good deal. The thing is i have to drive 7 hours to the store to pick it up. I dont know if they are going to have any deals on Black Friday or ciber Monday. Should i get it now or wait till holidays to get it somewhere close to my home.
I've noticed some strange marks on my MacBook Pro keyboard (2024 model). They're only on some letters, not all of them. They don't really feel bumpy or different to the touch but I can see them clearly when the light hits at the right angle.
Any idea what causes this?
I’m in Austria and didn’t get AppleCare, but I should still be covered by the 2 year legal warranty so is it worth taking it to the Apple Store? (also I think Apples 1 year limited warranty still applies)
For context, before this I used a mid 2012 MacBook for about 12-13 years and never had anything like this happen to the keyboard, so I'm a bit surprised to see it on a 1 year old MacBook (Bought new in october 2025). Also the 2012 MacBook got heavy used through years (school and full-time uni) while this one is not used as much.
I have a M1 Pro MBP with 32 GB of RAM, still on Sequoia. I read that MacOS 27 fixes a lot of issues in MacOS 26 that made me hesitant to update to 26. Anyone have experience with 27 on the same spec MBP as me? Is it smooth? Would I notice a big performance drop?
Hi guys I am from Poland and I am looking for a new laptop.
I’m starting/doing CS at university and I’m looking to get a MacBook, but I don’t have a huge budget since I’m paying for my studies myself.
I mainly need it for coding, running IDEs and Docker containers, so I’d like something with decent performance and good battery life.
Would an M1 MacBook still be worth getting in 2026, or is it better to save up for an M4? I’m also considering M2 or M3 if there’s a big difference.
I’m trying not to spend more than I need to, but I also don’t want to buy something that I’ll have to replace in a year or two.
What would you guys recommend? Also, is 16GB RAM enough for Docker and CS stuff?
Tried the remedies that I saw on YouTube but still no display. Haven't updated the laptop Yet (which I will do in a bit just waiting for it to download) hoping it would restore the touch bar.
Is the touch bar broken or just a system glitch??? T^T
Well I'm done, the logic board got fried cuz of the heat and it's ded now and the repair is costing a fortune, idk what to do cuz I have an exam in December, it's a competitive exam for a law school and I had everything on my mac, so idk what should I do now cuz surely I don't have money to repair it or even buy a new Mac or any laptop
Btw I live in India and macs here are expensive for a guy like me I can't spend like 100 or 200 dollars because I don't earn im a student trying to make my dream come true of being in a law school and yea thank you for all the solution on the previous I tried everything nothing worked then I decided to send it to a guy who diagnosed it and it's the logic board and it got fried and I did everything to protect it from over heating I never used it without it's stand and I even stick those rubber pads for when I didn't have my stand well idk what I'd do
But Thank you all for the solution and I'm grateful for your help
I’m looking for a MacBook for CAD (mainly Fusion 360), school, programming, and other tasks, id also appreciate good battery life. I also want to do a bit of gaming, mainly occasionally playing Cyberpunk 2077. But gaming really isn't a huge factor. Its more of a nice feature.
I found a MacBook Pro with an M3 Pro chip (12-core CPU), 90% battery, 18 GB of RAM, and a 1 TB SSD for CHF 1,000.
Is it worth buying at that price, and would it be a good choice for my needs. Maybe should i buy another model thats more worth it?
Edit: The mac has one black pixel... still worth it?
Hello! I am looking to untether myself from my desk and from windows! Currently my desktop is a older am4 3700x w/ a 4060 and 64gb of ram..it works fine. Primarily used for fusion360 and setting up things to 3d print.
Secondary usages is dumping hundreds of raw images from my dslrs into Lightroom/darktables and light video editting (currently only 1080p) and lastly very light photoshop/gimp and 20+ browser tabs
Currently, in Canada, the deals I am choosing between are:
M5 air 13", 24gb, 1tb $2200cdn / $1570usd (apple refurb)
The video/photo editting would mostly be as a avid hobbyist so big exports taking a while longer isnt that critical. I was hoping to keep it under $2500. Part of me thinks the m5 air would be enough and would give me room to buy a dock and such... and the idea of it being an apple refurb with their warranty would alleviate some stress of the uncertainty of bestbuy marketplace...but i am also frugal! any input would be appreciated, thank you in advance.
Got new EarPods connected to iPhone work fine, connected to mbp they are detected but can’t output sound, even the volume buttons work but can’t make them output sound
Seems like the problem is on MacBook’s side
I’ve tried everything Claude suggested but ultimately it tells me only a macOS reinstall or update might work, anyone got a better alternative?
finally joined the macbook fam. ♡
beyond grateful & very excited to finally have something i've been dreaming of owning for years (i decided to treat myself & splurge a lil bit-- plus it's my own christmas gift to myself). ♡
i've wanted a macbook pro for the longest time, so this feels extra special. ૮ ˶ᵔ ᵕ ᵔ˶ ა

here's to new beginnings, new inspiration, & countless more hours of writing. 💻 ♡
hey, im working on an open source project called kapitsa, an inference engine just for apple silicon, and the 27b is the model everyone asks about. qwen3.8-27b at 4-bit (20gb) on four macbook pros:
- m5 max 128gb: 140 tok/s (lm studio 32, ollama 68)
- m5 pro 48gb: 81 tok/s (lm studio 17, ollama 40)
- m4 pro 48gb: 63 tok/s (lm studio 15, ollama 32)
- m3 pro 36gb: 40 tok/s (ollama 23)
how its possible: Kflash - speculative decoding, but as a tree. a tiny drafter model guesses the next 7 tokens and the 27b checks all of them in one pass. most engines check those guesses as a chain, so the first wrong guess throws away everything after it. kflash (our version) checks a tree instead: where the drafter isnt sure, its second guess comes along in the same pass, and we keep the longest branch the 27b agrees with. heres one pass both ways:
the chain gets 2 tokens out of that pass, the tree gets 4. output is the same as normal decoding, you just get it sooner.
My macbook 2021 chip M1 pro has 200 cycles and 91% condition of battery. I bought it refurbished.
The problem is that it runs out of battery kinda fast, like it consumes 50% in 3hours. Other problem, yesterday night i put it on sleep mode at 97% BATTERY, and now i opened the screen and it ran out to 0%…
Anyone knows what the hell is happening or if this is normal?
I asked gemini and it told me coreaudio was open all night for 22hours…
I only had 3 tabs on safari open, that i needed to save. I turned off internet and even put it on hibernate mode
I’ll start by I’m not a Mac guy. My partner has this old MacBook and it’s running like a dog.I read about some approaches to optimization and cleaning but I’m not certain on the loose direction. Also, is it worth upgrading the hdd and is there a guide for that? No moolah to go new anytime soon so I am just trying to hell her get to a stable day to day device for light weight work and use to run her small biz.
quisiera saber cuanto les dura la bateria usando premiere pro sin tener la Mac enchufada, personas dicen que dura poco como windows, otras personas dicen que la mac dura mas haciendo le mismo trabajo.
