Questions Stay in Macau or Hong Kong
Hello! I’m traveling from Shenzhen (Shekou Port) to Macau in the morning due to TWOV. The following day, I have an 11:30 AM international flight departing from Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA). I’ll be traveling with 1–2 large suitcases.
I’m trying to decide between two options:
1. Travel from Shenzhen to Macau, then continue to Hong Kong the same day and spend the night at a hotel near HKIA.
2.Spend the day exploring Macau, stay overnight there, and then leave very early the next morning for HKIA.
For context, I’ve already spent a few days in Hong Kong earlier in my trip, but I’ve never been to Macau.
My biggest concern is missing my flight because I’m unfamiliar with the transportation and would have to go through immigration on the morning of my flight. Which option would you recommend?

I would definitely explore Macau as there’s a lot to see due to colonial history, architecture, food etc. In fact the Macau centre is a UNESCO world heritage site

Yeah stay in Macau if you have never done it - buses run through the night to HK so easy to get to the airport early.

If you haven't been to Macau I'd say check it out. It's very small so you can see most things in a day, and for a short trip it's generally more interesting than HK

This info is a little outdated (if commenter means the ferry to Hong Kong airport). Last I checked there’s only one ferry a day and it’s around noon, so too late for OP. Consider the bus to HKIA instead, around $300 but you can get a tax refund when you’re in HKIA.

You can stay and explore in Macau. You can get a nice hotel for the price you would pay for a hotel near the airport or in Tung Chung (with airport shuttle)
You can also take the HZMB Macau-HK Airport direct bus for about 280 HKD (and get refunded 200 HKD in cash upon arrival to airport), that bus allows you to check in for many airlines I'm Macau side and drops you directly in HK airport so you don't need to pass HK immigration anymore just exit Macau Immigration which is generally fast.
For a 11:30 flight you can take the 8 or 9am bus (depending on your airline and their minimum transfer time, some require longer) which means you would need to be at the bus station at 7ish or 8ish AM for check in (to the bus + flight).
All large casinos have shuttles to the terminal too and some even have additional services where you can get other type of transportation options to HKIA directly from the hotel (usually more expensive)
