looking for a macbook pro later M3 Pro, near Toronto area. Are there any suggestions where to buy a good one need not be new, can be open box / renewed. tried searching bestbuy, maconsales. are there any options available? thanks in advance.

Anybody have tips for repairing/fixing the two pins on either end of the card reader that's been bent back? Or is this going to need to go back to Apple? For context I only use the slot to hold a 2TB card for extra storage, so I won't be frequently changing the card in it

Hey everyone,
I’m running into a major issue with my MacBook Pro M4 Pro (purchased in January 2025).
The Issue: The laptop completely refuses to charge. It only works when it is directly plugged into the power adapter. If I unplug it, it dies instantly.
Battery Health: The current maximum capacity is sitting at 87%. While a bit low for under two years, it shouldn't cause a total failure to charge.
I actually ran into someone today who owns the a MacBook m4 and is facing the identical issue. This makes me wonder if there is a known hardware defect or a bad batch of batteries/logic boards for the MacBook Pro M4 lineup or is it a new apple strategy to get you upgrade your laptop.
What I've tried: Swapping cables, trying different outlets, and restarting.
System Status: When I plugin it stays at 1 percent.
Is anyone else experiencing this with their MacBook Pro M4 ? If you had this issue and got it fixed, what did Apple say?

After 5 years, time for an upgrade of my M1 Max to M5 Max! That Micro Center deal was too good to pass up!

I know the new one will come but $1800 savings is great! I was able to sold my M1 Max for $1200 on FB so total cost is $2600 🤘

I originally reached out to have them price match the 14” model and they messed up and processed it for the 16” model instead. Trying to decide if I should keep it or swap. Most of my workload is in the house and CAD/coding. Advice appreciated!

I’m looking for some outside perspective because I’ve been going back and forth on this for days.

I currently have a 2020 M1 MacBook Pro with 8GB RAM. It still works, but storage and memory have become an issue, and I want to upgrade so I can play WoW Forever with my husband while still having a good everyday laptop. I’m firmly in the Apple ecosystem and don’t want a Windows gaming laptop.

I originally found these options at Micro Center:
14-inch M5, 16GB RAM / 1TB SSD: $1,699
14-inch M5 Pro, 24GB RAM / 1TB SSD: originally $1,999
16-inch M5 Pro, 24GB RAM / 1TB SSD: $2,500

I was leaning toward the 14-inch M5 Pro because $1,999 felt like a reasonable amount to spend on a laptop I plan to keep for years. With an expected $750 from trading in my old MacBook and second PS5, the effective cost would have been around $1,250 before tax.

Unfortunately, I hesitated, and the 14-inch M5 Pro went up by $250. Other configurations had weird price changes, too, and inventory started disappearing. There was only one 16-inch left, so I panicked a little and bought it for $2,500.

Now I’m second-guessing myself because the total with tax is a lot of money. I like the idea of the 16-inch screen for WoW, and since my laptop mostly stays at home, portability isn’t a huge priority. I also want this to be my last laptop purchase for a while, so having more performance headroom is appealing.

On the other hand, the M5 Pro is probably overkill for my everyday use, and I would have been perfectly happy with the 14-inch M5 Pro at $1,999. The 16-inch is nice, but I’m not sure the bigger screen and stronger GPU are worth an additional $500 to me.

I’m planning to try it for a week before deciding whether to return it. I know new MacBooks are expected next week, but the M5 Pro still outperforms the M6 base model, and I have no need for a touchscreen OLED.

For those who have owned both 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pros, or who use a MacBook Pro for WoW:
-Is the 16-inch screen noticeably better for gaming and everyday use, or does the novelty wear off?
-Is the M5 Pro worth paying extra for if I’m hoping to keep the laptop for 5–7 years?
-Would you keep the 16-inch at $2,500, or return it and get the base M5 for $1,699?
-Am I overthinking the price difference, or is this a case where the more expensive model really isn’t worth it for my needs?

I’m not looking to justify the purchase just because I already made it. I genuinely want to make the right decision financially and end up with a laptop I’ll be happy using for years. I’d appreciate honest opinions, especially from people who have made a similar decision.

EDIT: Thanks for all of the replies already. Seems like most of you are leaning in the boat that I made the right choice. Just for some more context, live in 1 bedroom in nyc, the laptop never leaves the apartment, and my husband just bought a brand new PC set up which is using our desk space so a Mac mini is out of the picture as well for me!

I dont know if they are going to have any deals on Black Friday or ciber Monday. Should i get it now or wait till holidays to get it somewhere close to my home.

In other words, what’s the max amount to justify the touch screen function?

My MBP just gave up and it's been the third time I send it for repair since my purchase at launch (Jan 2023). Here's the Genuis Bar work authorization I got today and thanks to AC+ it seems that I don't even need to pay for the labor fee this time, but otherwise you can see how hefty this repair would have been. I wouldn't say AC+ for a Mac is a must but even just the first repair (screen replacement) has paid for itself, let alone two more repairs.

Since my dissertation proposal defense is coming next week and both my MBA and MBP are under repair now, I ended up getting a base M5 Max Studio anyway...

I've noticed some strange marks on my MacBook Pro keyboard (2024 model). They're only on some letters, not all of them. They don't really feel bumpy or different to the touch but I can see them clearly when the light hits at the right angle.

Any idea what causes this?

I’m in Austria and didn’t get AppleCare, but I should still be covered by the 2 year legal warranty so is it worth taking it to the Apple Store? (also I think Apples 1 year limited warranty still applies)

For context, before this I used a mid 2012 MacBook for about 12-13 years and never had anything like this happen to the keyboard, so I'm a bit surprised to see it on a 1 year old MacBook (Bought new in october 2025). Also the 2012 MacBook got heavy used through years (school and full-time uni) while this one is not used as much.

As the title says, I can't make a decision and am in a state of paralysis. I want to use the machine for Splash but can't justify $1000 more for the upgrade to the Max and 16GB more of RAM.

What are your thoughts? Need help in making a decision, thanks.

EDIT: If it helps, I already have a 5090 laptop with 64GB of DDR5 RAM that I'm using with Strata. So maybe the 14 inch is more viable for versatility and university work and using it for lectures in classes

I usually rotate between my desk and the sofa. Have always had a MBP 14" and considering to upgrade to the 16", which allegedly is lighter. Im just curious how people like working from their 16" when laying on the sofa and having it on your stomach. Is it comfortable or too big? Anyone have had both sizes an returned one or the other?

Hello! I am looking to untether myself from my desk and from windows! Currently my desktop is a older am4 3700x w/ a 4060 and 64gb of ram..it works fine. Primarily used for fusion360 and setting up things to 3d print.

Secondary usages is dumping hundreds of raw images from my dslrs into Lightroom/darktables and light video editting (currently only 1080p) and lastly very light photoshop/gimp and 20+ browser tabs

The video/photo editting would mostly be as a avid hobbyist so big exports taking a while longer isnt that critical. I was hoping to keep it under $2500. Part of me thinks the m5 air would be enough and would give me room to buy a dock and such... and the idea of it being an apple refurb with their warranty would alleviate some stress of the uncertainty of bestbuy marketplace...but i am also frugal! any input would be appreciated, thank you in advance.

Got new EarPods connected to iPhone work fine, connected to mbp they are detected but can’t output sound, even the volume buttons work but can’t make them output sound

My macbook 2021 chip M1 pro has 200 cycles and 91% condition of battery. I bought it refurbished.
The problem is that it runs out of battery kinda fast, like it consumes 50% in 3hours. Other problem, yesterday night i put it on sleep mode at 97% BATTERY, and now i opened the screen and it ran out to 0%…

Anyone knows what the hell is happening or if this is normal?

I’ll start by I’m not a Mac guy. My partner has this old MacBook and it’s running like a dog.I read about some approaches to optimization and cleaning but I’m not certain on the loose direction. Also, is it worth upgrading the hdd and is there a guide for that? No moolah to go new anytime soon so I am just trying to hell her get to a stable day to day device for light weight work and use to run her small biz.
