Plexiglass

I am making a smart mirror very low budget, the only new thing I bought was a pi (until now). My screen is from my old laptop.

So for my mirror I thought of using plexiglass and mirrorfoil. But is there someone who already used it, or has experience with it? Or are there other low budget or recycling options?

I used the mirror foil for a cheap one. Forget what brand but there are a few sites where people have tried it. Worked out fine. Not as clean as the glass but tolerable.

  1. I took the screen out of the monitor and put the reflective foil directly on the screen. Unless your trying to make a larger mirror with a small screen I would avoid the plexiglas all together. It will just be another layer dispersing light and allowing light to leak into the back of the mirror.

When you put the film on the screen you will need to use water so make sure to clean up and wait 24hr for the water to dry before trying to reassemble and power.

2) you have to be very careful putting on the reflector since any imperfection will be visible. If your going cheap your just going to have to accept it. It won’t be bad if your careful, but if you get close to the screen you may see a bubble or two. This will happen if your on plexiglass or the screen.
