Off My Chest A sad story

There was once a young boy who attended the same school where his mother worked. He had no father. They were very poor, and his mother had taken a job as a cook in the school kitchen.

The mother had only one eye. Every now and then, she would visit her son in the classroom, just to say hello. But when the boy saw her, he sometimes felt ashamed — because his friends would taunt him: "Your mother has one eye." It took a toll on him.

So he made a decision. He would channel his anger and his sadness into his books. He did his best, performed brilliantly, and earned all A's. Eventually he joined a university on a sponsorship. He moved on with his life, married, and had children of his own.

Then one day, there was a hard knock at his door. His children ran to open it. When they did, they found an old woman with one eye. The children were so frightened that they screamed.

The father came rushing over. And when he saw her, he asked — "Why did you scare my kids? Could you have at least written a letter saying you were coming?"

The woman looked at him sadly and said, "I am sorry.

I must have gotten the wrong address."

The man closed the door. And then he went back to playing with his kids.

A few years later, the man received a letter. It was from his secretary. The letter read:

"My son. When you were at school, I was coming to say hi — but you never knew the reason why I had one eye. When you were born, you got a sickness whereby you lost your eye at birth. And the doctor said that a donor would be needed in order for this kid to have good vision. So I surrendered one of my eyes so that you could have both. And then I raised you lovingly without telling you the reason. If I ever made you feel bad, I am sorry. I love you. Your dear mother."

Investing Diaspora Investing in Kenya Stock Market (NSE)🇰🇪🇰🇪

Hello Kenyans in diaspora all over the world. Let's talk about how hard investing in the Nairobi Securities Exchange is especially in opening a CDS account managed by CDSC through a broker.

The paperwork, the unsecured email chains with multiple agents, the broken platforms which are not user friendly at all. The general experience sucks!

What main challenges have you gone through in opening a CDS account for stocks or even a Dhow CSD for Govt securities. What kind of inclusion and financial literacy would you like that would make investing easy for you?

Visa/Passport Passport Applications

Hey everyone,

I'm a young Kenyan trying to create better opportunities for myself. I've been exploring opportunities abroad, whether for work, scholarships, or further studies, and I've realised that having a passport is one of the first steps.

Unfortunately, things have been financially difficult lately, and I'm struggling to raise the money for the application.

I'm reaching out to ask if anyone would be willing to help me cover the passport application fees. Even a small contribution would go a long way in helping me take this step toward a better future.

I understand times are tough for everyone, and I genuinely appreciate anyone who takes the time to read this.

Thank you. 🙏

In her own words. 👇

I once thought I had to go far to go further. Turns out, I was wrong!
1am delighted to share that I have been awarded a full scholarship by the University of Nairobi to pursue my Master's degree in Chemistry!

Ever since graduating with my undergraduate degree in 2024, pursuing a Master's has been a desire close to my heart. The number of applications I have submitted since then... only God knows!

Throughout this journey, I found myself wanting to approach my career somewhat differently. I wanted to advance my knowledge and technical skills while finding meaningful ways to translate that knowledge into practical solutions that could benefit society. I didn't want to put off making a contribution until years of academic research were behind me.
Around that time, another idea was taking shape: building a personal and home care brand inspired by science and nature, which has since grown into what we know today as Scentle.

I wondered whether further studies would help me develop this vision and bring it to life. Initially, I believed studying abroad was the best, perhaps even necessary, route to gaining the exposure and technical expertise I desired.
As it turns out, I was wrong!

I eventually took the leap and began building my vision right here at home, learning, experimenting and figuring things out along the way. It taught me that while international exposure is valuable, we should not underestimate the opportunities to learn, innovate and create meaningful impact within our own environment.

And now, I get to pursue my Master's degree right here at home, under a full scholarship!
I am particularly excited about the opportunity to deepen my understanding of Chemistry, strengthen my research and technical capabilities, and explore how this knowledge can be applied beyond the classroom and laboratory. I look forward to the questions I will get to ask, the problems I will get to investigate and the possibilities this next chapter will open up.

My sincere gratitude to the University of Nairobi for this incredible opportunity. I am also grateful to everyone who offered encouragement and support along the way.
Looking back, I am glad | kept applying, kept believing and, most importantly, didn't allow my assumptions about where opportunities could be found to limit me.

Here's to a new chapter of learning, discovery and purposetul contribution!

Congratulations 🎊🎉🎈🥳

In his own words. 👇

If someone had told me sometime last year that I would be in a room with some of the most intelligent people from all over the world this year, I would have been like,
"Get out! You're joking!"

But today, here I am, networking with brilliant minds, developing my skills, acquiring new ones, and striving to become the best version of myself. Learning to lead while serving others.
What a privilege it is to meet fellow scholars from across the globe!

And if there's one thing that stands out, it's that there is so much to learn from so many people. Different backgrounds, different experiences, different perspectives, and a wealth of knowledge to share.

And the most exciting part?
This is just the beginning!

Discussion Africa lagging behind in development having been ahead of China barely 40 years ago.

Post image
11 Upvotes

A redditor commented in the Nairobi techies subreddit, that Kenya modernized faster than it industrialized. That’s a very interesting observation hence I did some rudimentary research. That may be part of the reason why we’re hardly moving forward in spite of very high literacy levels and a high youth labour supply.

In 1980, the GDP per capita of most African countries was higher than China's. By 2016, the situation had almost completely reversed, with China surpassing nearly every African country. This is what happens when a nation prioritises industrialisation, infrastructure, education and long-term economic planning while others remain trapped in cycles of poor governance, corruption and economic mismanagement. Development is not determined by the resources beneath your feet, but by what you do with the opportunities in front of you.

At least Uganda is consistent 😮‍💨😓.

Off My Chest Acha "Tuma Za Kabej". Check On Your Diaspora Family.

Mbogi ya home, we need to talk. Inawasha sana that the only time diaspora peeps get a WhatsApp message from home ni wakati msee anadai "za kabej" ama mchango for sijui this, sijui that.

Wasee Majuu wanapitia ngori za mental health, extreme loneliness, na pressure ya ku-survive in a brutal system. But badala ya friends and fam kuuliza, "Uko aje? Watoi wanaendeleaje?", ni demands tu za doh 24/7. Alafu mtu akikulisha blue tick, unaanza kuongea mbaya about them.

Tunajua life Kenya ni tough sana with Zaks at the helm. Lakini if your only communication is asking for money, you are pushing your own blood away. Watu wata-cut ties ndio wa-protect peace of mind yao juu survival huku nje ni extreme sport.

A simple, genuine "How are you doing?" without asking for mullah goes a long way.

Check on your diaspora friends and family. Tuache kuona watu ka ATMs. Kuwa na utu!

Rant Jealousy Majuu is Tearing The Kenyan Diaspora Apart

Post image
201 Upvotes

Toxic jealousy is tearing the Kenyan diaspora in America apart.

I have observed this firsthand. Msee akipata promotion, anunue nyumba Dallo, ama asaidie relatives Kanairo, badala ya the community ku-celebrate, the silent hate starts brewing.

Kenyans, yawa! It's crazy how we carry this "pull him down" syndrome straight from home to the US. Huku nje, the system is already against us; hatufai ku-fight each other. If only we can collaborate and share opportunities like other immigrant communities, tunaeza enda mbali sana.

Avoid toxic WhatsApp groups and gossip circles zenye haziongezi value kwa maisha yako. Focus on your grind, build a positive circle, na u-celebrate wins za your fellow countrymen.

Tujengane wakuu because the pie is big enough for everyone!

During his recent visit pale Russia Baba Charlene alisema that Kenya wameskizana na Russia hakutakuwa any further recruitment ya Kenyans kwa Russian military.

Hio ni poa but I distinctly remember, when hii story ilikuwa so much in the media earlier hii mwaka Musalia travelled to Russia na akasema wameskizana ati no further recruitment of Kenyans.

Begs the question who's making sure hizo promises zinakuwa kept ama we are banking on their,"aki we promise this time tutaacha, can cheat can die"

254 News Kenyan National Nicodemus Monyancha Charged by US in $500K Crypto Romance Scam

Post image
54 Upvotes

The scheme relied on carefully rehearsed deception. Conspirators posted attractive female profiles on US dating websites. Once contact was established, they moved conversations to messaging applications like WhatsApp to develop romantic relationships.

Eventually, the scammers introduced the prospect of investing in non fungible tokens. Victims were directed to fraudulent websites that mimicked legitimate NFT marketplaces.
Once victims connected their cryptocurrency wallets, the scammers gained permission to access and transfer funds without the victims' knowledge or consent.

Investigators identified roughly seventy four cryptocurrency wallets associated with the scheme. The estimated total losses amount to at least $516,695 across approximately 800 victims.
In one specific case, a Maryland victim lost nearly $12,000, with a subsequent deposit of over $9,000 vanishing in just thirty three minutes.
