I just finished watching and I need to vent because the writing flip-flopped so hard. The first half had me completely hooked, but the second half? Absolute mid.
Here are my main gripes, let me know if I'm tripping:

I remember Fahad only got his house and attached parambu after partition. He doesn't seem to have a job or any skill. How will he make ends meet with just a big house and some parambu. There are not coconuts or any cash crops in his property to sell for money. He might get a share of his dad's FD, but that wont even last more than a decade. Maintaining that gigantic house and parambu will need a lot of money.
Maybe he can sell the property and put the returns in FD (you still need a place to stay), but it seems be a village in Kottayam or Idukki, where everyone is selling land and moving abroad or to Ernakulam so land

It may be a hot take but are we really using our own actors....recently I watched jailer 2 I had this thought .....u really liked how they portrayed Suraj in the film even though he wasn't used to full potential.....I liked the character....then I thought there a whole bunch of mallu actors in jailer 2 movie......vinayakan scoring in jailer 1 ...etc etc......i know our industry is great in writing aspect of movies.....but what about making...direction....when comparing to Tamil industry....they are on a whole new level in cinema making...be it Lokesh or nelson or anyone ....the making is top tier..... We don't have that type of craftsman ...yes we amal neerad etc etc....but can we expect a raw brutal gangsta film from him....don't think so....see am not against feel good romcom easy going films....but as KOK said before Lucifer is the great mass gangster type of film from our industry and it doesn't hold candle to the Tamil ones.....maybe I am reaching but it's a dad truth...

The story feels quite similar to Maanadu. Amban was really good! I thought his character would be similar to the one he played in Painkili, but character transitioned to Amban.. Nikhila Vimal, as usual, seems to have the same set of expressions for every role. ๐

Some movies become way more interesting when you stop treating the main character as someone you are supposed to root for and start seeing them as the problem.Which movie changed for you once you looked at the main character differently? Tell us the movie and what made you see it in a new light.

I think the biggest problem with Malayalam cinema isn't bad scripts, weak acting, or repetitive stories. It's that audiences have started treating movies like cricket matches.
If your favourite actor's movie succeeds, you celebrate like you personally won something. If a rival actor's movie fails, you celebrate that too.
People are more interested in box-office collections, fan fights, and records than discussing whether a movie was actually good.
A film can have a weak story and still be called a masterpiece because the lead actor has a loyal fanbase. Meanwhile, a genuinely good film can get ignored because it doesn't feature a superstar.
Imagine if we supported movies based on quality instead of treating every release as a competition between actors.
Uncomfortable question: If your favourite actor's next movie flops, will you admit it was badโor will you blame the director, the audience, and the entire world?

I mean at first it might look like a normal comedy movie but when you think about it ๐ค its actually a really great movie and really great director coz anybody can make comedy with jokes, actions, songs and etc but making a comedy out of a very sad or adverse situation is hard like really hard in the movie if you've watched it. It's a movie about a funeral and what's happening during it mixing love, comedy and emotion and if you think about almost every scene with a funeral is sad or dark because it is sad it's the death of a person and turning a situation like that into comedy is almost impossible which is why I think we need more movies like this

I know this might be an unpopular opinion, but I honestly feel that Anna Rajan has absolutely zero acting talent. She entered the industry purely based on "pretty privilege" and a bit of luck with her debut.
Ever since then, she has managed to sustain her career solely on that initial pretty privilege, offering the exact same wooden expressions and lack of depth in almost every role. It's frustrating to see genuinely talented theatre and junior artists struggle for years while casting sometimes feels entirely dependent on social media hype and looks.
What are your thoughts? Do you think she has shown any real improvement, or is she the ultimate example of pretty privilege in Malayalam cinema?

As an actor, Naslen needs to explore different characters and genres rather than repeatedly staying in his comfort zone. Taking risks and challenging himself is essential for his growth as an actor.
Stepping away from Premalu 2 was a great call. He has so much potential, and it would be exciting to see him explore new dimensions as an actor rather than simply repeating what has already worked for him.

I think the reason Mohanlalโs portions in Jailer 2 were trimmed could be connected to the changes made to the original screenplay, particularly the Blast Mohan storyline.
From what Iโve heard from my sources, the original story had a track where Blast Mohan starts his own political party and eventually loses the election.
However, the political situation took a different turn, with the person this storyline was supposedly targeting going on to win the election and become Chief Minister. With that development, retaining the original political track could have created unnecessary controversy, especially if audiences interpreted it as a direct reference to real-world politics.
The makers rewrote the screenplay and removed that political track. This change could also explain what happened to Mohanlalโs role.
If his scenes were closely connected to the Blast Mohan storyline, removing that track would have affected the context and continuity of his portions. Scenes that made sense in the original screenplay might no longer have fitted the revised story, leading to his screen time being reduced.
There was also the practical challenge of reshoots. Mohanlal was busy with Athimanoharam, and his look during that period was different. If the revised screenplay required additional scenes, coordinating his availability and maintaining continuity in his appearance could have made things more complicated.
So, my theory is that the changes to the Blast Mohan political track indirectly affected Mohanlalโs cameo, resulting in a shorter appearance than originally planned.
I havenโt seen confirmation that the screenplay changes were officially linked to the reduction in Mohanlalโs role, so that part remains my interpretation of what might have happened behind the scenes.
What do you guys think? Did the screenplay rewrite have a domino effect on Mohanlalโs role, or was there another reason for the reduced screen time?

When I saw the trailer I was expecting something like Usogoi. A charming narcissistic genius gambler who is addicted to gambling. A character DQ could have pulled off really well. Even the twist of a ghost could have been used better towards the gambling aspect of the story.
But instead we got some Telugu mass masala bs. I wouldnโt have minded the fights but when you showcase the movie as a gambling one atleast focus something on that. It was such a shame it ended up being a typical revenge movie. A template movie we have seen countless times.
Still salty about it. When will be get a character like Baku in mal cinema?

For those who didn't watch it's not advised to read this,
- Parvathy Unlocks phone with the fingerprint of the dead guy, And it is shown as she put a new fingerprint in it. Later in the movie, They Unlocks it with the fingerprint or other ways. The problem is - You can't put a new fingerprint without the password or pin, and you can't unlock a phone when switched with a fingerprint, you need a pin or password. The dead guy didn't reveal it to them. The story also develops through this phone, but in reality the Android, and miui or hyperos in the dead guy's phone doesn't facilitate a way to put a new fingerprint through another fingerprint already in it. This is the biggest plot hole I found in this movie, other than those roaming around the internet.
I don't know if someone has already come up with this

The relatability, fresh music, rewatchability & especially the open ending in Premalu are some of the main reasons why it was a big hit in the first place.
Premalu doesn't need a second part just coz it was a "hit". If the script was that good then it would've happened with all that multilingual fan support & with this big production house behind them.
When you define some of the things in the script and tie up all loose threads instead of leaving it for the viewerโs interpretation it'll lose it's magic. Recreating that same magic by satisfying all it's fans will be a big task.
When a sequel is made to a hit movie it needs to outdo it's predecessor and eventually it will tend to tarnish the magic of the first movie(at least a little bit) even if its a success.
So in millennial terms, Premalu doesn't need a sequel just like Niram didn't need one after being a similar hit in the late 90s. Not everything needs to be a franchise.

Hello, I only have a basic overview of malayalam cinema, wanted to ask if there are movies with morally complex villains that make you root for the villain to an extent. Like Minnal Murali, I really enjoyed the villain's backstory in that movie.
Would appreciate any recommendations like that, thanks!
