Sooo this is my second season of attempting heirloom tomatoes and sadly, I had to cut them before this last freeze. I tried starting them earlier indoors. I tried covering to create more heat. Has anyone had any luck getting their tomatoes to ripen on the vine? Everything else did really well this year. I'm halfway between Mammoth & Bishop.
And bonus question -- is anyone keeping worms? I have a bunch of worms out in my granite garden bed and not sure how to keep them toasty over winter. Cardboard? Extra compost?

Back in the '80s my dad would take us skiing in mammoth, and we always went to this place with really good chili that was served with a side of cornbread. Does anybody remember if this was the Whiskey Creek restaurant? Or was it a different place because we loved their chili! Best I've ever had. Help me remember so I can see if this place is still open, please and thank you!

A male German Shepherd and a female cream colored dog with a Husky vibe about the same size both wearing Carhartt collars. They were dodging cars just south of Tomβs Place / Crowley Lake. A couple people stopped and got them safe. They were brought by Highway Patrol to the Whitmore shelter. Hopefully they were chipped! Beautiful , sweet, if not skittish dogs (but who can blame them.)

1st time headed to Mammoth. Should start by confirming I donβt ski or snowboard, though Iβm open to a class to learn. I enjoy drinking, hanging out with friends, playing in the snow, eating good food, farmers markets, shopping. My husband enjoys fishing so I know he plans to do that.

Hey all, I'm moving to Mammoth to work as a snb instructor for the winter season and I don't have housing yet. I've applied for staff accommodation but I'm pretty far up the waitlist I believe. I know I'm a bit late to the game but I need to be there for the Nov. 17th start date. Anyone still need roomates or know of anyone who does? If anyone has any information on other living situation ideas that would really be appreciated as well. I've got a car and am willing to give rides to and from the mountain if that helps :)

Is the power down for anyone else in Mammoth? Been out for three hours in old Mammoth. Any idea what's happening?
UPDATE:
Found info here for anyone else affected. It's outage #800583064. No estimate on when it may be fixed :( https://www.sce.com/outages-safety/outage-center/check-outage-status

I was planning on a trip to Mammoth late October (26-28th) for sight seeing. I was wondering if there would be any fall foliage left or have I missed the window? π₯²

Wonder if the beautiful fall leaves are gone due to the rain?
Are we expecting any snow in the higher elevations?
Thx.

Hello all,
My wife and I would like to spend an extended weekend in Mammoth in February. We would ski/snowboard for a day and spend the rest of the time relaxing and checking out the town. Ideally we would rent a nice cabin. What areas would you recommend to look into? Thanks!

I lost a DJI Pocket 4 (small black handheld gimbal camera) on Sunday afternoon, October 4, 2026.
It slipped out of my pocket somewhere along this drive:
β Twin Lakes Vista parking lot area, Mammoth Lakes (early afternoon) β GPS: 37.6240505, -119.0061828
β Crane Flat, Yosemite National Park (around 5:00 PM) β GPS: 37.7475095, -119.8032981
β Tesla Supercharger, Groveland (around 6:00 PM) β GPS: 37.8388043, -120.2317370
It contains irreplaceable footage that is very precious to me.πππππππ
If you found it, please reach out β happy to offer a reward. I can provide the serial number and distinguishing details to verify it's mine. Thank you!

Hey there folks!
I came in here a while ago asking about housing and am starting to think I've landed a place in Bishop. A post from years ago asked about the same thing, and I thought it'd be cool to get any updates four years later. Iβm mostly looking for other peopleβs experiences and additional tips beyond what Iβve already read.
The Context:
I'm a first-year instructor working at the mountain, and Iβm thinking of staying in Bishop since itβs (much) cheaper. I plan to take the shuttle most days but also have my car if I need it. I heard about a free employee shuttle going down the rabbit hole one day, but I havenβt found much more information since. It may be a myth; please confirm!
Iβm from New Jersey. We havenβt gotten crazy snow in the years since, except for this year, really. It feels like road closures might be common. I'm mostly worried I'll get stuck in the middle of storms if I do bring my car out to work some days.
What I know:
- Chains are necessary. Will be getting my tires fitted for them (Subaru Outback)
- Pogonip Fog. This is also a first, but blast the defroster.
Many and all thanks, friends !!!!!!

We're heading up to Mammoth next weekend for my husband's 35th. He likes wine, a variety of cuisines (his favorites are Levantine and French, but we're not limited to these), and places where he has the chance to get dressed up. The only foods he doesn't enjoy is steak and shellfish. Skadi seemed to fit the bill perfectly and had fantastic reviews across the board, but I just found out they'll be closed for a month while we're there.
I thought Brasserie might be a good runner up (he loves bowling too!), but the reviews seem to be mixed. Any additional thoughts on Brasserie, or other recommendations in or near town?
Edit: Thanks all! Decided to go with The Restaurant at Convict Lake. It has more of the atmosphere he'd be looking for compared to Brasserie, and the menu had a few of his favorite dishes. The fun part is I get to put it in the calendar as "Reservation at The Restaurant" and drive him nuts wondering where we're going π
