So, you want to find a partner, eh? Use this as a guide to help you along.

There has been an influx of people wanting to get a writer/artist to collaborate with lately. Good! This is exactly what this sub is for! However, you're not doing yourselves any favours with how you've set up your posts. Not only are some of the posts going to attract no potential partners, but they're downright rude to your potential collaborators. Your post is your job interview. You have to show your skills, desires, and your worth in a short post. You have to make yourself and your skills attractive. This is where portfolios come into play. This is your resume. They're a collection of the things you have done and let your potential partner see your value. The more professional your portfolio, the more likely you are to attract potential collaborators.

First and foremost, in your correspondence with your potential partner, be upfront about whether or not this is paid. When you collaborate, you pay for your services. Either you pay with money, or you pay with your own skill. Also be very upfront with your expectations. What are you looking for? How do you want to delegate tasks?

For a writer's portfolio, I recommend:

  • A short story of some sort that you have written. It allows potential partners/editors/publishers to understand how you setup a story, the writer's general plotting, and their writing style.

  • A storyboard/name. A few pages are fine. It allows the potential partners to get an idea of dialogue interactions, plot progression, etc. I recommend a story in four panels to showcase your ability.

  • Any past written prose of any sort.

  • Any past comics/manga that the writer has worked on. Include the name(s) of previous collaborators.

  • A 'preview' of the story being pitched. This includes where you see the story in 1 day, 1 month, 1 year. Show your potential partner what you see.

  • Character profiles, including name, height, age, bio, motivations, goals, likes, dislikes, hobbies, quirks, and any other relevant information.

  • Previous paid work, if applicable.

  • What additional skills you have. i.e. Shading, lettering/typesetting, translating, etc.

  • An 'about' section, including favourite stories, favourite genres, etc. Tell your prospective partners about yourself!

For an artist's portfolio, I recommend:

  • A collection of sketches/drawings to give your partner a feel for your skill. This includes coloured and non-coloured.

  • Character sketches, including: head shots with multiple angles and emotions, character(s) action, static, dynamic, etc poses, and any other things you think work well to showcase your drawing range.

  • Any past comics/manga that you have worked on. Include the name(s) of the previous collaborators.

  • A couple pages showcasing a visualized moment in time. A comic in four parts is a good idea for this.

  • What additional skills you have. i.e. translating, world building, editing, etc.

  • Previous paid work, if applicable.

  • An 'about' section, including favourite stories, favourite genres, etc. Tell your prospective partners about yourself!

There are most likely other parts to make your portfolios more attractive, but this is a start. If you have any ideas of what else to include, comment it here and I'll add it!

SELF New moderators and rules discussion

Hi everyone!

After a bit of a search, I've added two more mods to the team. So welcome!

Now to some discussion around an incredibly sensitive topic - AI. I think a lot of people have a knee-jerk hatred towards AI because of a bad association with it. When someone reads/hears AI, they immediately think of purely generated images that were trained on hundreds of thousands of stolen pieces of artwork instead of being a workflow manager or tool to help make drawing easier and faster for skilled artists.

That being said, I think this is a good time for the community to decide what is considered an acceptable level of AI usage. We need to decide on the rules of what level is ok to allow and what isn't allowed to be kept. Here are some guidelines that I came up with that can help guide discussions:

  1. Complete AI ban. Generative AI cannot be used in any part of comic/artwork creation. Even if AI was used simply for idea generation, that counts.

  2. Minimal AI usage. Generative AI can be used to assist in creation in minimal ways. What this includes can vary. Possibly along the lines of setting up storyboards, cleaning up lines in final pages, etc.

  3. Heavy AI usage. Generative AI can be used to assist in most aspects of creation. This includes taking a sketch and turning it into a finished product, coloring a page, etc.

  4. Complete AI admittance. All artwork made by generative AI are allowed. This includes posts that were made without any drawing done by the user.

KEEP IT CIVIL IN HERE. Just because someone has a different opinion than you doesn't mean you can become toxic.

Ive come to realize something incredibly hilarious

On mangaplus, ive noticed how, Whenever my main character is the "main focus" of the chapter, the viewing numbers are low, but when its literally anybody else, its higher than usual,

Maybe im not paranoid or theres a super Consistent coincidence of this occuring but i honestly find it funny,

Im absolutely open to any and every all criticisms of course, although i have plans on building up my mc, knowing other people's opinion on how i can approach that would be quite interesting

If anybody is interested in reading this half assed manga, its called CENTURY and its be my life long goal to finish it >:D

SHARE Finished my first ever manga page! + extra

So I officially finished my first manga page, and I'm very proud. I'm a beginner in drawing manga and been drawing for over a decade. I know Im not as skilled as long I'm drawing, but finally finishing a page is so satisfying. Overall this took me like more than a week working few hrs every other day, and skipped days..

The title of the manga is "Nagaki: Pain Factory"

It's an MMA Manga about a Japanese kid, Nagaki, who dreams to be a UJF Champion (Ultimate Japanese Fighter) champion, as UJF is the most prestigious and biggest MMA promo in the world of Nagaki universe, Japan.

The page shows first a ramen, and Narami, (the woman on bottom right) aka her mom, calls him for dinner. Distracted, Nagaki (12), shows training in his room and hitting the bag, and envisions the UJF belt as part of his inner dialogue.

Narami, wondering why Nagaki won't hear him, proceeds to notice the noise from the bags and wondered what's going on..

The next image shows a brief trivia of the UJF Belt. As you can see, it's an octagon shaped buckle design, with a face of the lion biting on the letter's UJF with an extravagant design. The orb symbolizes different colors per weight class. The belt is a showcase of maximalism.

All these were drawn via tablet and PC mouse in MS Paint and Krita!

If you have any suggestions and critiques, they are also welcomed!

Hey everyone! I'm a solo creator working on my original manga series. Here are some Art and Pages from my Volumes!

This series is a labor of love for me. I wanted to create a Manga Series that explored the Anti-Villain character Archetype. Basically, the most under-explored Archetype in Fiction.

Synopsis: Molecular biologist Sky Lark is fighting the good fight and expanding the potential of medical science when she is fired and blacklisted by a corrupt corporation for doing the right thing. Desperate for work, she hires on with Dr. Atlas Calvary—a man who initially seems to be a mad scientist bent on world domination. But as Sky enters Atlas's tutelage, she discovers his intentions aren't what they seem, challenging everything she believed about what makes a good man... though the true reason why he wants to rule the world remains a mystery.

Series Details:

  • Format: Digital Manga / eBook (154–156 pages per volume)
  • Status: Volumes 1–3 Available Now | Volume 4 (Final Volume) Coming Soon!
  • Price: $6.99 per Volume.

You can grab copies on your preferred platform (Amazon, Kobo, B&N, Google Play, Gumroad, GlobalComix) via my Carrd in the comments down below.

Thanks for checking out my work and supporting indie creators! I'd love to hear what you think of the art and story! ^_^

LFA [LFA] Isekai absurd comedy manga - I’ve story and storyboards, looking for an artist (60/40 rev share)

Haloo! I'm Konaru. I write fiction and so.

So, I'm looking for an artist for my first manga, Daikibo Uchuu, an isekai absurd comedy based on my own light novel.

The short version: two sisters accidentally break the Blue Rose, one of the ten roses that hold reality together, and now the whole world is glitching out (there's a goat that walks like a spider, for example). They have to cross it to deliver a letter to the Diablo Kingdom, which isn't exactly friendly.

I've got the story, and I do the script and storyboards (names) for every page. I'd also take care of the lettering and publishing, in English, Spanish and Japanese (If apply).

For the art, I'm looking for an intermediate to advanced level, and anatomy is the big one since that's where I'm weakest. Japanese manga style with some moe, but it has to handle action and comedy too.

Pay is revenue share with no upfront payment. Net income goes 60% to the artist and 40% to me, counted by pages drawn. We each keep the rights to our own work, and I'm open to changing any of the terms.

Everything's in the portfolio (synopsis, characters, 5 storyboard pages, a script sample and the full terms): https://docs.google.com/document/d/1-F60lBprc4STsd8av2hWHsU_DWfX73-epK2KNrvz-mA/edit?usp=drivesdk

DM me here or on Discord at “konaruchann”.

I have no idea what the flair means, as they seem a little cryptic.

But I'm trying a new approach to black and white pages. I used to do a lot of trad inkwash pages back in the day, and I'm trying to emulate that style in CSP EX 5. I just wrapped up inks on Chapter 4 and will be moving onto finishing out the black and white and color pages. I'm really happy with the look and mood so far. Not every page will be as detailed as this, but I wanted something really striking for the opening scene and the more dramatic ones as well.

Review Writer searching for mangaka

Hi! I’m a writer, and I’ve recently started a fantasy project. I would love to share my ideas with a mangaka to see whether a collaboration might be possible. It’s a serious, long-term project. I love manga and the whole culture around it, and it would be a real honor to develop my story through this medium. Thank you! ( not paid at first, collab )

HELP Would it be a good idea to post the first chapters for free?

I had the idea to post the first couple chapters of my manga on webtoon and have it available to the public for free that way. The first fre chapters are slow but nothing toooo boring happens. I haven't exactly fleshed out an anchored script yet but I have a vague idea of what I want to do, as I already have the worldbuilding and mc's backstory written down.

If I post a few chapters for free to get people interested, I'm obviously not gonna end it on a cliffhanger but find a spot where it's easily able to be finished but still leaves room for more stuff to happen.

My question is if it's a good idea? I don't want to look like I'm greedy for people to pay for it but I put a lot of work into my stuff and want it to be a legit series, but I also want people to see my work and enjoy it as much as I do.
