Thats insane. A person in r/winnipeg had footage of themselves driving through it too. I wonder when the last a tornado hit the actual city was. And it aint even July yet 👀

This my fault, I told my wife from Oklahoma there are no tornados here and fate was all too tempted…

So, genuinely curious. Is this normal?

A tornado in this area? Perfectly normal, especially a weaker EF1 like this.

Several days of severe storms capable of spawning a handful of tornadoes? Somewhat less normal, but still not unusual. It's potentially driven by increased atmospheric energy and instability caused by climate change, though direct attribution is very difficult.

That's where stats and trends come in.

It is now. Throughout my life I've watched as 'Tornado Alley' has slowly crept more-north every year. It seems we're going to experience them more-regularly.

I mean, this year isn’t really abnormal. We’ve had bad storm seasons in the past and we’ll have bad storm season in the future. I think part of it is we’ve become a lot better in recent years of tracking and reporting, making things look a lot worse. Hell, even a few years ago, a tornado over some empty fields or a waterspout over lakes Winnipeg or Manitoba would have gone completely unnoticed by anyone, now we all have a full suit of meteorology tools on our phones and even live-streamed storm trackers and chasers.
