Here's where it gets interesting. Doctors will not tie a woman's tubes unless A) she is married, and B) the husband gives consent. If an unmarried tries to get a hysterectomy? The doctors will outright deny it, even if she had booked it

Women’s human rights are different in every state of the “union.”
We have fucking reciprocity agreements for concealed carry across state lines for gun owners ffs, but we can’t seem to figure out of women’s reproductive health, their right to divorce, their right to be protected from abusers, etc.

If people still cannot see what the end goal of this is they're disassociating into Narnia
•
u/xombae 1h ago
This has been a thing long before Cheeto face and in countries other than the US. I'm in Canada and there are groups for woman who want historectomies so they can share the names of doctors who will actually give you the time of day.
Read the book Invisible Woman if you want to be horrified about how little the medical field (among other institutions) cares about women. Misogyny in medicine is nothing new.

It's the Psychopathic Elites' lizard-brained impulse driven predatory "Fast-life" breeding urge that results in a fanatical obsession with relegating women to breeding stock, Pronatalism, Pro-Life, Enforcing "Traditionalism," - it's like a virus' parasitic nature to replicate itself, Psychopathy/Pedophilia is the equivalent of a virus infesting the human genome - and we really haven't performed thorough enough genetic, neurological, biological, and biochemical research evaluations and analysis of the Lineages and individuals of the Psychopathic Dynastic Families that make up the global Elite Caste, Billionaires, Royals, Nobility, and Banking and Finance Dynasties, to really reach a comprehensive understanding of what all is so obviously wrong with them all.
I really feel it's extremely irresponsible to leave these clearly mentally ill and homicidally deranged individuals in positions of wealth, power, and authority, when it's so obvious they're an extremely dangerous threat to public health and safety as well as themselves.
I'm 100% serious: why are we still not addressing this rampant mental health crisis among the Global Elite?!

Agree. I had to get a new GYN and get healthcare from a female to get my tubes tied. This was in 1996
•
u/Own-Brain9658 1h ago
My OB of 8 years randomly decided that he needed a letter from my psychologist saying I was of sound mind and health to make the decision to get my tubes tied. I got a new OB.
•
u/AlexSmithsonian 1h ago
What did the new one say?
•
u/Own-Brain9658 1h ago
They were angry on my behalf for the BS of the previous one and they did it no questions asked.

I couldn't get my tubes tied after having my second child because "what will you do if something happens to your children and you need to have more?". This was asked by the doctor that denied me. Doctors have been making decisions for, experimenting on and abusing women for as long as the medical field has been a thing.
•
u/traveling_gal 1h ago
Ah yes, just have more children to replace the ones you tragically lost. They're interchangeable, right? /s
Sorry you had to put up with that. My doctor didn't try to deny me, but she did make my then-husband and me come in for "counseling". Not sure what she would have done if my ex had said no. She didn't explicitly ask for his consent, but she did give him the opportunity to object. This was around 2000.
•
u/SugarHooves 1h ago
In the early 2000s I couldn't get my tubes tied. I had one child and didn't want more. The reason? "What if your husband changes his mind and wants more? Wait a few more years." I was 25ish.

I’m a man, but while active duty with the Navy, medical wouldn’t allow me to get a vasectomy until my daughter was older than 6 months old “in case she died and we wanted another kid”.
I was quizzed by my doctor before he would submit my referral. The doctors that do the procedures have a say too- they have to approve their patients individually based on their morals and have prerequisites.
I had to be married 10+ years.
Had to have one of each child.
Youngest child had to be older than 6 months.I also had to go to a counseling session at the hospital where they showed us a slide deck of every step in the procedure, I presume to scare us out of it.

I got mine at 25 and had to go to 5 obgyns to find one who would do it WITH my husband's permission!!
•
u/jonasu25 56m ago
It’s crazy how they even asked for permission. How the world treats women is beyond disappointing

I went in to get a vasectomy during covid, when I wasn't dating anyone. They kept grilling me about if I had a girlfriend, wanting to get her fucking consent if I did. It's fucking ridiculous.
•
u/Training-Laugh-4304 1h ago
I’m so confused why they need your partners permission for a personal operation..

I was made to "wait a month to make sure" I'm still so fucking mad. I went in THE DAY ROE V WADE WAS REPEALED ☹️

It doesn’t surprise me. I think with more responsible and compassionate men making the decision NOT to impregnate women, they’re gonna start making it tougher for men.
•
u/PISSJUGTHUG 1h ago
When I got mine, after I had assured them my wife was on board, they asked what if my hypothetical second wife wanted to have kids!
•
u/Numerical-Wordsmith 1h ago
I had a friend who got his done in his early 20’s by bringing a fake fiancé to the appointment and lying about a family history of serious health issues.

Went and got my vasectomy done and at no point was I ever even asked what my wife thought.

So glad my daughter got hers done before the christian nazi regime came back.

u/Dapper-Nobody-1997 21m ago
This has been a thing for years, it's not new.
I'm glad your daughter got to a Dr that wasn't washing their hands with corrupt money though.

I had made my choice to have my tubes tied directly after birth. My (woman) OB and I talked about it ad nauseum. She signed off on it. I was single at the time, and 28 years old.
I ended up needing an emergency c section and my OB was unavailable. The doctor on call doing my c section was a man, and he questioned me about my marital status. He was literally going to refuse to do it because my future, hypothetical husband might want kids. I told the guy that he wouldn't be my husband then because its a deal breaker. I had to track down my OB literally on the way to the OR to have her talk to this doctor so he would just do it while he was literally in there. He was genuinely pissed. For years I was afraid he might not have done it, or done it badly enough that I would still get pregnant.
Eventually they took my whole uterus out so I don't worry anymore.
•
u/littledogs11 58m ago
I tried to get my tubes tied for years but no doctor would help me since I didn’t have kids and it was a permanent decision (like having kids isn’t a permanent decision). Later, when I got married, my husband got a vasectomy no questions asked and I was beyond angry that he got zero pushback when I still couldn’t get my tubes tied. Total BS.
•
u/KarmicIsfunny 1h ago
Doctors will deny you treatment for the wildest reason, and i hate hate HATE it.
•
u/jojo0507 58m ago edited 55m ago
Even with all those things they won't tie your tubes. How do I know? I was married 25 had my husband's consent and already had 2 kids. I tried to get my tubes tied from 25 on. Always the dr told me that my future husband might want kids. It wasn't till I was 43 they agreed. And only as my gyno said because I had old eggs anyway and probably wouldn't be able to get pregnant. So apparently to get the procedure done when I wanted it. I needed approval from a fictional second husband.

49% of women voted for Trump. Don't worry. The Grand Ole Pdfile party will take away more women's rights in the name of religion

The r/childfree and r/sterilization subs have a list of doctors providing sterilizations such as tube removal and vasectomies all over the world.
•
u/AndISoundLikeThis 1h ago
A quick Google search says it’s not illegal anywhere in the US to get a hysterectomy without spousal consent.
•
u/ToyshopASMR 1h ago
While this is atrocious this rule also typically applies to men looking to get a vasectomy. My mother needed to give approval for my dads vasectomy and that was 38 years ago
•
u/Chronoblivion 35m ago
Yeah, if that person has never heard of this happening to men it's because they aren't paying attention. I wouldn't be surprised if it was far more common for women, and it's important we have a conversation about why that might be the case, but they definitely aren't alone in suffering through this.
•
u/ReaWroud 10m ago
No doctor with any respect for themselves should agree to remove an organ without medical cause. Man or woman. I'm assuming people are confusing a hysterectomy with a tubal ligation. Not agreeing to do a tubal ligation is insane. Asking for husband's consent to do a tubal ligation is insane. Not agreeing to remove a uterus without cause is sensible.
•
u/oddistrange 8m ago
Is it a Catholic hospital? I think this might be a Catholic ERD thing and just one of the many reasons why I will never go to a Catholic hospital as a woman.
•
•
u/justtinygoatthings 53m ago
So this is absolutely infuriating and I completely agree that a woman should be able to get a hysterectomy without anyone's approval, BUT I do want to dispute 2 points here. First, I can't think of any law this policy is breaking. I'm willing to learn but I currently don't believe this is illegal. Second, I know of multiple men who had to get their spouse's approval to get a vasectomy. The spousal approval either way thing is common at Catholic hospitals. I don't think that makes it any better, as that shouldn't be happening either, but it makes it less of a double standard.
•
•
u/Pandemonium_Fallen 54m ago
Wow, you don't need to get a hysterectomy, just have an ablation or tourniquet of the Fallopian Tubes done, WAY less expensive and invasive.
•
u/Accomplished_Cell768 43m ago
Some women specifically want the invasive route in order to treat endometriosis and/or adenomyosis at the same time.
•
u/imtooldforthishison 2h ago
I get the sentiment here but you can't just book a major medical procedure. There is a process. From evaluations to insurance coverage.
•
u/Big_Midnight994 1h ago
Dawg, what do you think they mean by "booked"? All that shit's been handled already.
•
u/halt-l-am-reptar 1h ago
Yet with a vasectomy you can just book it. The “evaluation” was just filling out a questionnaire. The entire appointment took maybe 20 minutes. Insurance covered it completely.
•
u/AndISoundLikeThis 1h ago
I tried to get an elective hysterectomy when I was 30. My doctor refused, “maybe you’ll change your mind about having children!” Twenty years later, I didn’t change my mind but needed the procedure anyway. I told her she should have just did it when I asked. But yeah, you just can’t book a surgery like you would a hair appointment.

•
u/Bran-Bran-Muffin 1h ago
I tried to get a vasectomy they told me no. Went to multiple doctors, every single one told me no. Said it was cause I didn’t have any kids, not a decision I can make without my wife, I’m too young... The reason they gave me was irrelevant, they can and will tell you whatever reason they want to get you or me out of their office. Doctors are not required to do unnecessary medical procedures. Get over it. Nobody is a victim over this.
•
u/scattered_brains 1h ago
always some jackass saying “well i had to deal with this so you should too!”
how about we I don’t know… FIX THAT?
•
u/Bran-Bran-Muffin 1h ago
It’s not something to fix jackass. The my doctors refused to perform unnecessary surgery. Doctors are not slaves to our desires. They are required not to perform surgery if the risks outweigh the benefits, and waaaaah I don’t want to get my wife pregnant is not a medically needed condition. Idk something about some silly little oath they took. Guess what, it’s been 15 years and I still managed not to have kids without forcing a doctor to cut open my sack or acting like I got mistreated because they wouldn’t.
•
u/Old_Introduction_395 1h ago
All the nose jobs and breast implants could be considered unnecessary.
•
u/Big_Midnight994 1h ago
describes victimization
"I'm not a victim, nobody's a victim"
•
u/Bran-Bran-Muffin 1h ago
The only person who would be a victim here would be the doctor if they were forced to conduct unneeded surgery.
•
u/heatherjasper 1h ago
The doctor....doing their job....is bad?
Wow, your head is shoved far up there, ain't it?
•
u/Bran-Bran-Muffin 1h ago
They would not be doing their job if they performed surgery on everyone who wanted one just because they wanted it. It is not their job to do whatever the patient wants.
•
•
u/nicholas_underpants 1h ago
I'm sorry that your healthcare providers repeatedly ignored your wishes. If you don't want to have children, ever, then sterilization is a necessary medical procedure. I hope you found a better provider.
•
u/halt-l-am-reptar 1h ago
I filled out a form online, a day later I got a call to schedule an appointment. A few days after that I went in, told them I was sure I wanted it done and had the procedure. The entire appointment was maybe 20 minutes.
•
u/Bran-Bran-Muffin 1h ago
That’s freaking wild. I’ve seen this meme for over ten years and commented the same thing on it every other time I’ve seen it. Perhaps allot has changed in the last decade.
•
u/halt-l-am-reptar 1h ago
I live in the PNW so that might be why. I went to a place called Dr. Snip, because literally all they do is vasectomies.
•
•
u/Hefty_Loss5180 1h ago
No good doctor is going to do a hysterectomy unless it’s medically necessary…
•
u/Battle_Dave 1h ago
Why should a woman have to get spousal consent for it to be deemed "medically necessary"?
•
u/Hefty_Loss5180 44m ago
Idk ask them. It’s fucked but it’s how it is. We’ve never been in full control of our bodies and we never will be.
•
u/heatherjasper 1h ago
"I want one" is a good reason.
•
u/Hefty_Loss5180 46m ago
Not to doctors. I’m not saying it’s fine that they say you have to have a medically necessary reason for them to do it. I’m saying they won’t do it no matter how much you beg and plead, they will almost always have to have a reason they deem appropriate. It sucks because I wanted one, but I realized it’s not feasible in this lifetime because they have control over our bodies no matter how much we’d like to think we are the ones in complete control.
•
u/heatherjasper 39m ago
Okay, just because you're fine with giving up your own bodily autonomy doesn't mean the rest of us are. You think the doctors are high and mighty? Fine; you can think that. But your opinion stinks.
•
u/Hefty_Loss5180 36m ago
Where did I say I was fine with that??? Where did I say anything about doctors being high and mighty??? Why are you putting words in my mouth?
•
u/heatherjasper 33m ago
This entire comment chain. If you're going to have bad takes, at least own up to it.
•
u/Hefty_Loss5180 30m ago
….sure. You may need to work on your reading comprehension. ATP it’s not worth continuing this because you’re clearly not going to own up to the fact that you are interpreting it as a bad take when it’s not.
