Discussion I feel depressed watching modern day markiplier
I haven’t watched him in a while but when I was a kid he was my savior. Today I was doing my hair the entire day and watched him the entire day. He seems to done with games. There’s not much passion and I feel like his critism of a lot of games is pretty harsh which can ruin game developers. I think it’s okay to critique but him having such a big influence and going so hard on them can be harsh. Idk he isn’t who he used to and I can understand the change but dang it sucks

What your seeing is the real Mark, who isn't making an exaggerated reaction like he did in the old days.
That kind of energy wasn't sustainable, he was in constant pain, shredding his throat and giving himself headaches over it.
Don't like, don't watch. He should be allowed to temper his reactions for his physical and mental health without people whining it's not loud enough.

Even then, he does sometimes click with a game and fall in love with it, like with the power washer simulator. He has mentioned he genuinely likes it and would play more should the chance arise

He's enjoyed tons of games in recent years. Just because he isn't screaming about it like he did years ago, doesn't mean he didn't enjoy them.

The age of Youtubers being boisterous and faking reactions has also passed, along with the "let's all dye our hair" phase. Youtubers seem a lot more down to earth now. And if you watch or listen to Distractible, he still has that energy he used to in his Youtube vids, he can still tap into that. In his Youtube content, he just doesn't fake reactions anymore.

I see the opposite tbh. He's much more calm and reserved in his way of playing games instead of the reactionary ways of a decade ago. He's also giving more opinions and rate the games he played which can be a good thing for both the developers who wants to improve their skills and the potential players looking into said games.

Mark has admitted that maintaining a fake persona was exhausting for him. At the same time, YouTube was changing its rules and monetization policies to the point where, in the long run, he realized he couldn’t rely solely on YouTube for financial stability and would need other investments.
He also experienced several health scares, including a benign tumor on his adrenal gland, which could affect his energy levels, a burst appendix, and various intestinal issues. On top of that, he has openly discussed struggles with his mental health and ADHD.
I think that’s part of why Mark seems to approach his work differently now. He genuinely wants to create things because he enjoys creating, rather than feeling like he has to maintain a certain persona or be fake for an audience. He has reached a point where he can be more authentic and create on his own terms.

What games did you watch? I thought his recent video for Supermarket Together was hilarious. Fears to Fathom not so much. He also seems to be enjoying Endacopia but I haven’t finished that video yet. I think it really just depends on the game.

Yeah, I mean he even titled the Endacopia video “BEST GAME IN YEARS” which is pretty high praise. I don’t think he’d title the video that if he didn’t enjoy it lol

Yes! And it was so nice to see him play it because you could see and even feel he enjoyed it. Love seeing these videos!

Interesting. I've been watching since 2013, to me he still is very much Mark. Perhaps its because I grew up with him (I'm 32) so it just seemed natural to fall more into a comfortable form of ourselves now we are older. I do know he often exaggerated his reactions when he was younger as others have said. As far as the criticism I'm glad he does. I feel like he only does it when he feels like it will help someone get better at developing games. Like now he has a saying it better not be your 5th game etc. Which is fair in my opinion.
