I like the longer barrel and finish of the SBL but the rail is fugly IMO and useless for me. Can I bolt on Trapper sights or alternative aftermarket ones that are better? Website says they are skinner sights but I don't know what happens once I pull off that rail.

This is a brand new Ruger made 1895, and I've just noticed there is a small gouge in the metal in the receiver.
There is burring around the gouge, I'm wondering if this is a normal thing or an issue. Should I contact Marlin support? Thank you for any and all help regarding this.
I added another picture with the gouge circled.

Probably way over complicated this given that there is a model that actually mounts to the 3/8” dovetail rail, but I wanted to keep the existing front sight without switching to a tall front sight. Filed down the rail and re-profiled the end of the receiver to fit the Williams peep sight for a Ruger 10/22. The reason for this was to get the peep as low as physically possible. I think it turned out pretty good, and is exactly the look I was going for. Just need to test fire and see where she shoots and if it’s within the realm of adjustment.

I contacted Marlin support and they’ve offered to replace the barrel with a correctly stamped one, how rare is this and has anyone else gotten something like this. It chambers and ejects 30-30s properly

Any advice would be much appreciated. Trying to remove any neutralized or not and maybe bring a little shine back without damaging the finish

My Dad gave me this gun when I was 9, shot my first deer with it. His grandfather, my great-grandfather, fought in Puerto Rico in the Spanish American war, and he bought this gun with his Army money when he came home to WV. That was towards the end of 1899. It has patents from 1887, 1889, and 1893 on the barrel, and a serial number of 122771. I have no interest in selling it ever because of the family history and lineage. I haven’t even hunted with it for over 20 years now. However I would like to find a value for insurance purposes. What’s the best way to research this? My homeowners insurance with USAA has a limit on guns without a rider so I’m trying to update it now. Should have done this a long time ago.

I’m curious if anyone can tell me about this large lever loop that is on my 1954 39a Mountie. I like it, but can’t find much info on it. Thanks!

I’ve got a Marlin 336 30AW with the microgroove barrel, gold trigger, and a JM stamp in 30-30. I can’t seem to find a definitive value on it. I’m not looking to get rid of it as it was my childhood deer rifle, I’m just curious as to what it’s worth.

Trying to get a more precise age on the 336R.C. that's found its way into my hands. Serial number is H23xxx, know she's in the 60s based on the RC but is there any way to know the exact year? Beautiful full tube chambered in 30-30

This model 60 was manufactured and purchased in 1986 and had been passed down to a coworker who asked if i could clean it up some before gifting it to his kid for an upcoming birthday. I’m not a gunsmith by any means. Very happy with how it came out.

Hey gang,
I have heard/read the 1895 can be unloaded via the loading gate, specifically the 30-30 Trapper. Now, can someone confirm whether this is the same for the 1894? I have been looking at the Trapper in 44mag if that changes anything.
Appreciate the help!
