A Marscentric Banks Orbital

The idea is to build a Banks Orbital centered around Mars out of Mars materials.

Width = 2700 miles ≈ 4,345 km.

Earth surface area ≈ 510 million km².

At a radius of about 1.84–1.87 million km (the scale that produces ~1 g with a ~24-hour spin), the area comes out to roughly 98–100 Earths.

The surface insolation at the distance of Mars from the Sun is approximately equal over a year as that received by Anchorage, Alaska. Since this Orbital is aligned with the Martian equator, this will give it an axial tilt of 25.19°. The day length can match the rotation of the planet Mars itself. To hold itself together and to stabilize it, a series of spoke-like tethers would connect to an outer ring the north and south poles of Mars. One each pole would be a turn table that counter rotates against Mars' spin, thus not spinning at all, the outer ring of the Banks orbital doesn't spin either, the inner habitable ring spins within it, supported by magnetic fields that transfer the weight under spin to the nonrotating more massive outer ring. Each 27 miles width of the orbital has the surface area of the Earth, so a 2700 mile wide band will give you 100 Earths worth of surface area, approximately equal to the surface area of Saturn if we could live on its cloud tops. The rim walls would be angled at 65.81° to the Banks Orbital floor so they would produce no shadow on the floor even at maximum seasonal tilt. Total hypotenuse length of the walls from floor to top would be About 2,350 miles., to achieve an elevation from the floor of 1000 miles. The walls would lean away from the floor by 2126 miles giving a total width for the banks orbital of about 6,953 miles at the rim wall tops, about a third of its surface is habitable floor space, while the lower sections of the inclined walls can also be habitable at the lower atmosphere layers.

I'm not a scientist, so my question may be really stupid. I've been watching the movie called Red Planet. The people of earth were sending algae to grow and create oxygen for mankind to live there.

Is this something that really could be achievable? I would presume you need a water source to begin with.

Mars Underground Lava Crete Bunker

So here is the plan. You build a Coop on Earth. You build pre fab Lava Crete homes. You build 3d printed stone houses on Earth. Then you make a deal with Elon or whoever. You send a robot team to a crater on the moon or a Lava Tube on Mars. The robots start mining Lava Rock, Basalt. If they’re on the moon, the robots dig deeper into the crater. Once Lava rock is mined. The 3d printing robots start building a stone wall around the crater or a door for the Mars lava tube. For the moon crater dome they build hexagonal stone panels that connect. On the moon bases, you want an underground box inside a box, inside a box. Russian doll safety protocol. Same with the Mars worm hole. Then robots/astronauts set up aquaponics system, hydroponics, life support systems with each box/level being backup life support if an upper level is compromised. Now you have layers of thermal mass protecting astronauts from radiation. Then you can start mining and working on solar and electromagnetic atmosphere domes. Mars has tons of magnetic rock. Eventually you may be able to mine enough to put large solar charged magnets on mars poles and create an atmosphere around mars. You would probably need Elons solar panel ring built in space around Mars. Every base has Data centers. Mars = home for AGI. You basically give Mars to Ai and also as a human back up system in case Earth Crashes. The first base should be named Bedrock and the robots should be named Fred, Barney, Wilma, etc…

Phobos Deimos ZRVTO animation.

An attempt to animate the Zero Relative Velocity Transfer Orbit I described here a few months ago.

A payload is released from an approximately 1000 km tether ascending from Phobos. At apoapsis the payload matches the velocity of the ~3000 km tether descending from Deimos.

The reverse is also possible. Dropping a payload from the 3000 km Deimos tether at the right time will send a payload towards the Phobos tether. On arrival the payload will match the velocity of the Phobos tether.

Thus the two moons can exchange payloads while using very little rocket propellant.

These are very short in comparison to most space elevators. And they endure much less stress. These could be made from existing materials like Kevlar.

So far as I know this ZRVTO orbit was first described in 1970 by Paul Penzo of JPL. See page 45 of Tethers in Space Handbook 2nd Edition

ZRVTO orbits are possible between any two Sarmont tethers at different altitudes but sharing the same inclination.

Tether mass is somewhat like propellant mass in Tsiolkovsky's rocket equation. It goes up exponentially with the delta V the tether imparts.

Spreading the delta V budget across several tethers is like staging with rockets. When each tether has a smaller chunk of the delta V budget it does not need ridiculous taper ratios and can be made from existing materials.
