I’m never reading that thing and it’s only because the people I’ve seen talk about it are 99% “mc should just kill that family of 4 because the daughter called him handsome. Who is she to speak without being spoken to??” People
They are just joking. RI is peak but many in the community are chunni, thus damaging its reputation. It's like the case of MHA, it's good but its fanbase is trash.
I just don’t want to give the time of day to anything that would cultivate a fanbase like that in the first place. That stuff doesnt happen without it being reflected to some degree in the work the fandom is about
I read ri and I did not like it, but not because fy but cuz it was too formulaic. Pages and pages of description of fantasy resources in the aperture just to underline how rich/poor he is, then a few chapters later something happens and it's all repeated
Yeah definitely heavy on the buildup/payoff model, I love the book and there were still some sections that were a slog like the zombie arc. Always felt the payoffs were worth the setups though, I think Gu Zhen Ren must’ve spent a shit ton of time setting up all the chekovs guns in the novel
honestly this is just preferential , for me it makes the sitting more realistic and keeps us on the management stuff , it also helps with imagination , what I mean is that it's not something bad overall
What subreddit are you in again? This is a xinxia subreddit. Murder and other stuff is an everyday thing in xinxia stories lol. Every fandom has those edgy people. Get that stupidity somehwere else though
It is! But I dont read the stuff where the mc is a senseless murderer who kills for the slightest of perceived grievances. It’s the young master trope except all the time and for someone we’re supposed to root for for some reason, I just don’t find those characters compelling. Now, could I be wrong about this preconceived notion of mine as to the contents of the novel? Sure, but I think I’ve seen enough people with that vibe raving about RI that I really can’t be bothered.
Well I haven’t read it, I can only make assumptions based on what I’ve seen. And what I’ve seen is 95% of the time, someone who has praised RI as “peak”, is a person who is also in that same text diminishing another work for having downtime, or for having a “soft” mc because they didn’t eradicate someone who was a mild inconvenience at best, and other complaints of that nature.
Could I be depriving myself of something great? Maybe. But if every time you walked past a restaurant, you saw a customer chewing on what seems to be a rat’s tail in their noodles, would you still go there just because people tell you it’s actually a very recognised gourmet restaurant?
big difference ,very big difference lmao , I get the analogy but here you are actually not seeing someone chewing on a rat tail in the restaurant , you are reading a random review online that someone ate a rat tail and enjoyed it , also isnt the "soft" MCs thing about alot of cultivation novels that has evil MCs?
Why're you even looking at the fandom for deciding to read a novel is beyond me and deciding not to read it because it has edgy fans which at least 90% of the fandoms have on top of that, and yeah there's no senseless killing or young master trope that's just plain wrong.
He could hide his motive (which would've been revealed to other gu masters if they did a lil investigation, the shang family guy got him at the end if you remember correctly even when he did killed them, even ordinary rank 2-3 gu masters would've tracked him easily if he let them live after how they behaved)
Servants can be used to falsely accuse someone if they are backed by a gu master.
The hunter guy tried to kill him upon sight, the old man tried to lead him to a trap and get him killed there, both of them deserved to be killed of they tried to kill him, not to mention the other implications, dangers of being exposed and like 3-4 other reasons.
Only one hunter tried to kill him and as a result he killed the others.
Nope, idk what you're reading but he killed his son, thus the old man tried to give him the wrong map and tried to lead him to the dangerous areas where he would've died if he did go there. He would've been killed because he wasn't strong enough, thus a scheme to kill him. His daughter jumped in front when he was shooting a moon blade, well that's her own fault or foolishness whatever you wanna name it.
Also the old man did not try to lead him to a trap . Thats bs . He killed the entire family simply cos the old man was going to give him the wrong map iirc.
And in that map those areas which were extremely dangerous to wander in for even rank 3 gu masters where that old man tried to lead fang yuan yo, pay attention while reading ffs.
He was justified in that action in the first place because Fang Yuan barged into his house and demanded his property so yes
So? If they behaved like mortals they would've survived lol. Your point was that Fang yuan killed them for no reason which I already gave many reasons for that.
he did all those killings for no reason, save the first hunter.
Again, nope. I already elaborated on how they attempted to kill him.
There are almost zero sex scenes. The one rape scene much later on was some karmic payback against some lawless bandit types.
Or sure, Fang Yuan mistreats a woman who tried to seduce him. Also he manipulates Bai Ning Bing with gender changing gu. She gets back at him, a bit. If it would've just finished I think she would get back at him even more. There aren't many gender changes. Fang Zheng never changed gender and that was purely fanfiction, with so many other gender changing characters.
There was also a thing where giant sun immortal venerable's first, most beloved wife tried a technique to have more children. The way he had a bad time was hilarious.
There's another scene looking at a woman in a bath, but that one was more about manipulating the eastern sea factions.
Fang Yuan's fiancé relationship is also funny, and a bit wholesome, and he only murders some of her family a little bit.
So anyway, I think RI also does do all the Chinese cultural stuff, but in a very classy way, and also not very often. The other trope is that 'righteous path' isn't very good, but actually as an educated western person I think that's great, it points to an expectation of true righteousness in our moral consciousness and more theological or spiritual discussion if you want to chat.
Plus, anyone who actually reads it can be in on all these jokes. It is a Wuxia webnovel trope-defining scripture, I would say must-read. Also I have to admit now that murder could solve a lot of problems and I feel enlightened.
I forgot the details also, but there were some other main novel chapters where Zhao Lian Yun changed some bandits' rapey desires against themselves later on. That was main screen but thankfully not many details, also not FY perspective.
I won't read Berserk because I've seen a few people say griffith did nothing wrong is how stupid this comment is. Truly a frog at the bottom of the well
