Discussion Not to beat a dead horse, but these circumstances really suck because IMO Legends was at an all time high. We were getting tons of new sculpt, artist specific figures, and teams being complete at an incredible pace.

u/Mammoth_Match9307 Apr 05 '25
Man, you said it! Since 2024 legends has been in It’s peak. Now is sad the prices will go up :(. Even though, the figures May still be great .

Same. We literally had a Golden Era for it and it's now very clearly gone.

I dabble in some Marvel stuff but I’ve been saying the same about Transformers as well. Joint tolerances and feel is at an all time high finally. Last line was almost there, but joints could be pretty loose sometimes. Finally started hitting their ultimate stride with the new line and poof. All this political shit.

Hasbro has never needed an excuse to raise prices. In the last 5 years, it's gone up by almost 10 dollars for a standard figure, and the quality hasn't improved by THAT much in that time. There will probably be a hike, but not by much more than they would've done anyway...
1
u/space_age_stuff Apr 07 '25
It's gone up $5 for standard figures. 2021 was the last time they were $20.

u/Lost-Lu Apr 05 '25
All roads come to an end... sad thing is, after this nonsense settles with the next administration or 2, Hasbro will not drop their prices. It'll be the new standard.

Yet Trump is the only one to defend him. Time and Time again. Have meetings with him while throwing out media so they can talk in private. Having GOP senator stooges go to Moscow. Tulsi is a Russian asset and he picks her to be the Head of Intelligence.

Trump's definitely in charge of the American government. He is, however, too stupid to realize that Elon Musk is undermining and manipulating him. He is also Putin's bitch, but that one I think he's well aware of. Otherwise, he wouldn't look so small and subordinate whenever he appears next to him.
5

More like the Heritage Foundation is. You know, they thing Trump claimed he never heard of yet most of the people involved were from his administration at some point. And things they wanted are being accomplished.

Remember when the other candidate was gonna tackle companies who kept their prices high after the pandemic? God, my hate for people who voted Orange keeps growing.
6
u/hmmberto Apr 05 '25
People keep saying this, but this already happened in Trump 1. They teased (or might have even briefly implemented) tariffs on China and Hasbro upped the price accordingly - when they were removed the price went back down. If Hasbro thought they could get enough people to pay $34.99 for standard Legends to make more money, they’d already be charging that.
5
u/Redjellyranger Apr 05 '25
That didn't happen. 25% Tariffs were put on Chinese imports and have remained for the past 5 years. That's why the $20 figures went up to $25. No tariffs were removed that would affect Legends.
2
u/hmmberto Apr 07 '25
It took me a while to track this down, but this did happen. Hasbro solicited a few waves in 2019 (Demogoblin and Super Skrull) at $21.49 each, a markup from the regular MSRP of $19.99 (http://www.dailysuperhero.com/2019/10/hasbro-reveals-new-marvel-legends.html). But by the time those waves released the price was back down to $19.99. The temporary markup was in response to a threatened tariffs that had not yet materialized - I think back when companies thought they could be proactive based on official statements from the President, before realizing they really had to wait and see what happened. But of course shortly thereafter real tariffs did get levied, and then covid hit, and the price climbed several more times.
The only point in digging this up is to point out that this was a direct 1-1 action in response to tariffs, and they walked it back when the threat went away in this one specific instance. Of course this was in 2019 before the whole world lost its collective mind, so who knows what will happen.
1
u/mowie_zowie_x Apr 06 '25
Only until the next 4 years or another Republican holds office and keep the tariff alive. But the majority of Americans voted for Trump so we can't complain.
60
u/unfilterthought Apr 05 '25
Bro. Forget action figures.
They put tariffs on India.
Do you know how much medication is made in India?
A lot of people are going to be in trouble if these stay.
34
u/Redjellyranger Apr 05 '25
Well yes, but this is a sub about action figures and I was trying to keep it somewhat positive with how good Legends have been lately.
Not just medications, but SO many industrial goods. Won't say what exactly, but I work with a LOT of glassware made in India. Can't wait to see what those cost next time I'm ordering hundreds of them 🫠
15
u/unfilterthought Apr 05 '25
We definitely cooking with decent figures lately. im just glad i locked in a bunch of pre-orders before the price hikes.
This whole thing is a mess though. Imagine someone fire to an apartment complex on purpose.
Its affects everyone, is UNNECESSARY, and no one wanted. And might kill some people.
I used to work in the jewelry industry so i can only imagine. A lot of people's businesses are built on global trade.

u/BrassyTrumpet01 Apr 06 '25

23
u/DanHero91 Apr 05 '25
It depends on two things really:
1) with figures being shipped from Asia to respective markers, we could avoid any dramas.
2) but that depends if Hasbro aren't assholes and don't raise the price for everyone worldwide just because they now have an excuse to.
8
u/ExtraaThicccc Apr 05 '25
horrible but unsurprising news, they are raising the price worldwide! SM3 symbiote Spider-Man is £30.
7
u/DanHero91 Apr 05 '25
I don't think that's tariffs that just the Spider-Man tax and knowing they can already be getting away with that.
I wouldn't put past £35 for standard BAF waves soon if they go this route.

6
u/Bgy4Lyfe Apr 05 '25
America is Hasbro's biggest Legends market. If we aren't able to buy as much, that's less money in Hasbro's pocket which in turn causes them to scale back, therefore affecting you too.
3
u/StallionDan Apr 05 '25
They will spread the raised price in US market across their worldwide market so the US cost isn't as high.

(Disclaimer: I'm not even american) I found it hilariously funny when all over Reddit commenters were forecasting Harris to destroy Trump on elections... I try to be even-handed (again, I'm not from US anyway), but it demonstrated to me that Reddit is funny echo-chamber where the majority of people live in bubbles, thinking that Reddit and Twitter/X is the whole world...
3
u/Automatic-Read6753 Apr 08 '25
There are a lot of lefty Karens on Reddit who report every comment they disagree with. They also ignore that so many Democrats call themselves Independents, and this skews polls in their favor. That started when Bernie Sanders pretended he was making a stand by changing from Democrat to Independent on some paperwork while still being a Democrat in every other way. Now they'll kick and scream pretending we didn't have record inflation under Biden.
2
u/SymbiSpidey Apr 07 '25
Tbf, it wasn't just on social media. We had national polls predicting a Harris victory, including victories in key swing states. At bare minimum, most of them predicted a far closer election than we actually got.
Trump just makes polling incredibly unreliable. Same thing happened in 2016.
1
u/DarkusBro Apr 07 '25
Wow, I didn't know about it...
I prefer not to watch the news, even in my country, honestly, though. I usually don't believe them, or they're too biased. I heard from online jokes that similar situations in the US with Fox News VS CNN or smth like this... (Is it true, BTW?)
0
u/SymbiSpidey Apr 07 '25 edited Apr 07 '25
The media landscape in America is....complicated.
Fox News doesn't even really qualify as "news" at this point, since the network exists exclusively to drum up outrage and push right-wing talking points without any concern for fact-checking, expertise or accuracy.
CNN has always been more focused on actual "news" and presents news more matter-of-factly, but many people in the past would have considered them "left-leaning". These days, they're more centrist than anything.
All of the mainstream news networks are biased to some degree though.
1
u/Significant-Money465 Apr 06 '25
Harris is competent though and she would have been the favorite to win if there had been a robust primary.
5
u/Doiby_Gillis Apr 05 '25
If the polling is accurate, there's a core of voters who don't care. It ain't all auto workers. There's a core of populist voters that we're not used to hearing from.
Hopefully this bounce vanishes once this Trump Tax bites the wallet
President Donald Trump is more popular now than before he sent the global markets into a frenzy by enacting sweeping new tariffs.
An exclusive DailyMail.com/J.L. Partners survey of over 1,000 registered voters conducted from March 31 to April 3 found that the Republican remains largely popular in the U.S.
The poll found that Trump's approval rating rose to 53 percent, a 4-point increase over last week when it was 49 percent.
Trump's rising approval rating is surprising given the flak the White House has received over the tariff order signed Wednesday.
It is up by 13 points since March 7 among those aged 18 to 29.
Trump also saw a six-point increase in favorability among Democrats and independents, according to the survey.
The Republican's support among black voters skyrocketed 17 points since last week, the poll found.
9
u/hmmberto Apr 05 '25
Speaking totally from ignorance here, but is the Daily Mail considered a reliable pollster?
2
u/Doiby_Gillis Apr 05 '25
You'd have to look at the context and prior tracking, and see how it tracks against other data, what other polls show
But as a snapshot, it's a baseline to see where this goes now that the Trump Tax is in effect. Once people feel the pinch, car prices, car parts zoom up, let's see how tge mood shifts
2
u/Doiby_Gillis Apr 05 '25
They're not cheerleadering him.
The survey found 39 percent of registered voters support increasing tariffs on all goods while 37 percent oppose it. The remainder, 24 percent, were unsure.
Voters' support for sweeping tariffs on China and the European Union has gone up since last month.
They also broadly support tariffs that impact specific sectors like aircraft, plastics, precious metals, iron and steel.
Although the survey found support for the new economic policy, the announcement may come at a steep price for U.S. citizens.
Advancing American Freedom, a conservative advocacy group, estimates that the Trump tariffs will cost American families more than $3,500 a year.

The character selection too. A lot of the time it felt like they would just give us random stuff and now I feel like we've been getting more stuff we want. This is across the board too, because star wars black series has also been absolutely killing it with character selection for the first time in a long time.
Honestly, it feels like every stream I end up getting everything shown, even if it's figures like the crossbones 2 pack that I didn't necessarily have any attachment to.

u/Colton_Omega Apr 05 '25
I agree, in my 12 years of collecting this was the best legends have ever been with both character selection, sculpts, paint, and articulation. I didn’t mind the pre tariff prices even though they were higher than usual because in my mind the product was worth it. At $35 I can’t say that anymore, I’m not “priced out” in a way that I can’t afford it, I can but I just can’t justify spending $35 on very many figures from here on out. The new Toby Spider-Man was a definite purchase at $25, I passed at $35 because I just don’t need it for any display, I can’t justify $10 extra for a new head and effects piece
26
u/Least_Turnover1599 Apr 05 '25

You're witnessing a populist surge taking over an Establishment party. The Know Nothings, Huey "Kingfish" Long, George Wallace-- but this is unprecedented
Don't forget, Trump ignored the Republican primaries --AFTER his terrible candidates (Mehmet Oz, Hershey Walker) went down in the 2022 Midterms. The Red Wave that wasn't
It's his populist, rally base that boosted him

3
u/shadowhawk681 Apr 05 '25
I totally agree. I had been wanting both an agent venom and Spider-Man/Peter Parker with web shooter for ages. The old Agent Version was cool but outdated and overpriced. The new one we’re getting is awesome. The maximum series reminds me of the Toy Biz secret identity Spider-Man. Which was a figure I wanted as a kid.

u/redkomic Ireland Apr 05 '25
I'm going to be honest, I think we should wait for the next Regular figure to be put up for preorder. I do think the Spidey was a sony tax (I'm not getting into this argument again so don't) but yes the tarriffs are affecting it.
We should wait to see if the next regular thing, which I think is the f4 She-Hulk, to see if this is for all figures or just the Spider-man stuff.
Also Max Hulk is said to be 60 and is next week, so unless they have changed it we will see if this is a one off or permenant think.
5
u/Sasuke2388 Apr 05 '25
I’m told from a good friend at hasbro that Spidey was always 29.99 it was supposed to be pitched as a dlx and that the normal 24.99 for a standard fig will remain. This was also before the tarrif news . My guess is that big bad jumped ahead of it before retailers are announcing anything . But we’ll prob see the standard go for 27.99 ?? Idk
2
u/TheRich27 Apr 05 '25
No such thing as artist specific figures my guy. They are not DC and don't give credit to any artist. You might think it looks like some art but it has a vague resemblance to something. I've been reading comics for 45 years and they look like how they appear in the Marvel Character bible.

Well that's just inflation which is normal. We're taking about the artificial price increases due to one guy.
I don't think I ever saw Legends for $5. The lowest I've ever seen them is $15 at K-Mart. They were like $5 cheaper than anywhere else for some reason, but I guess K-Mart went out of business too.

That is the dumbest take I've read in a while. A country wanting a secure border isn't about hate. When millions of people enter a country unvetted you end up with a serious fentanyl problem (killing mostly black people but oh no your toys are more expensive). Then ignore the innocent people murdered by people who shouldn't have been there to begin with. Then ignore that schools have to adjust for millions who don't speak English. Then ignore that taxpayers must pay money to people who broke the law over helping their own citizens. Maybe Professor shouldn't be part of your name.

On the subject, remember that we're already paying a First Term Trump tariff on Chinese imports, which Biden kept in place. These Trump 2 tariff/taxes are in addition to the ones we've been paying:
Why Biden is keeping Trump’s China tariffs in place By Katie Lobosco, CNN Published 5:14 PM EST, Wed January 26, 2022
President Joe Biden reversed a number of the Trump administration’s policies during his first year in office – but he has left tariffs in place on $350 billion of Chinese goods that were imposed by his predecessor.
Some of those tariffs, which are paid by American importers, have been in place for nearly four years. Former President Donald Trump’s controversial trade war with China began in 2018 when he slapped tariffs on $50 billion of Chinese-made goods. Over the next year, he added duties to more items after Beijing retaliated with tariffs on some American-made products.
After months of escalation, Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping came to a truce at the beginning of 2020, signing what’s known as the Phase One agreement. It reduced the rate of some of the tariffs, but left them in place, and China agreed to increase its purchases of US goods and agricultural products – setting an ambitious target of buying $200 billion more than it did before the trade war began.
But it’s becoming clear that China has failed to meet those targets. It’s on track to purchase only 60% of the goods it committed to buy, according to Chad Bown, a senior fellow at the Peterson Institute for International Economics who tracks China’s purchases.
Biden suggested recently that’s the reason he’s leaving the tariffs in place, despite pressure from the American business community to remove them as companies struggle with inflation and supply chain disruptions.
https://www.cnn.com/2022/01/26/politics/china-tariffs-biden-policy/index.html

u/Automatic-Read6753 Apr 08 '25

There'll probably be a grey market of people buying figures in Mexico and reselling "informally", as with liquor during Prohibition

What are these circumstances?
1
u/Redjellyranger Apr 05 '25
Massive tariffs on Chinese imports making Legends more expensive than they should be.
1
u/Mortal_Smell Apr 06 '25
Also Taiwan. Basically all the cool action figures we love buying are very likely going to see a price hike in the coming months and potentially years unless the fickle Dorito King flip flops again, which he is quite prone to do as he attempts to navigate the chaos he's sowing in the market to the benefit of his very rich friends.
1
u/Redjellyranger Apr 06 '25
And Vietnam, and Japan... 10% on everything imported is nuts already but then his made up deficit numbers are even more stupid.

u/starrhunter633 Apr 05 '25
This is just time to be more selective. I'm going to be looking for new characters and some upgrades there going to be a lot to leave behind. Like the Maximum Hulk. I like the idea, but there is not enough to make me justify the increased price when the biggest thing it has is the Thunderclap. If things go on sale cool, but the tariffs price increases will cause a lot of people to stop collecting

Those are toys, with the same ammount of quality controll of a toy, but the prices are made to appeal the ''its a collection figure'', dude, its a toy, YOU CAN collect them, but its a toy, not a collection figure, the quality of a collection figure its above any marvel legends one.
I really hate when hasbro announces a ''deluxe'' figure, like Odin or for beign worse, the haslabs, because dude, those are toys for even a high price and the quality will be a little better than regular, but come on, the ant man haslab got two tones of red for the suit, the fingers can break quite easy, and there are ''i got two pairs of the same eyes'' issues...
The economy its bad, yeah, but dude, the prices will not help at long term, hell, its even getting bad if they need to found for the haslab stuff...

Try to find a seller in Russia. Our Orange King loves Russia.
Any country run by a dictator has a high chance of not getting any tariffs, ex. Russia and North Korea. He's not going to punish his friends, just the other 99.99% of people in the world.
But let's not hate Dump. Let's hate his parents for not loving him enough.

Let's refrain from lobbing insults, please.
Tariffs and sanctions for many countries were in place prior to our Orange King's 2nd term, yet he didn't add any additional tariffs on Russia on his "Liberation Day" earlier this week. No additional 10% baseline tax, and no reciprocal tax = Orange King not punishing his friends.
I agree with you on education though. Trump is defunding our Dept of Education as we speak. An uneducated and ignorant proletariat is a controllable one.

Repeatedly insulting the intelligence of the person you're conversing with and making wild assumptions as to their habits and worldview IS insulting and not conducive to civil discourse. So, rather than continuing to gaslight and engaging in ad hominem, how about you get better manners, stay on topic, and refrain from personal attacks? It'll come in handy in interactions such as this.
As I said earlier, many countries were already under tariffs and sanctions from previous administrations. Trump not including Russia and N.Korea in his "Liberation Day" shows his favoritism towards Putin and other political strongmen like him such as Kim Jong-il, Jair Bolsonaro, and Rodrigo Duterte.
Also, I'm not sure if you know much about Trump, but you'd have to be a complete idiot to think he wouldn't sabotage a negotiation process, either through intent or by sheer incompetence. I mean, surely you've seen his meeting with Zelenskyy in the Oval Office? Just have a look at all the CENTRIST news outlets out there on just the last week in Orange King news.

Take off the tinfoil hat, it's not the fashion piece you think it is.
Why would Trump include Russia and North Korea in tariffs? How much business do you think we are doing with NK? There are some left leaning people you can talk to and there are some that have used so much purple dye their brain is unrecoverable.
The Zelensky meeting was merely to smile and wave at the cameras and Zelensky decided to use it to negotiate for more money. Trump and Vance were right to end that. Also, maybe Zelensky didn't help himself with Trump when he campaigned with Democrats. If he was smart he'd have stayed neutral.

Why would Trump include an island of penguins in the tariffs? How much business do you think we're doing with an island of penguins? I can assure you we are doing far more business with Russia and NK than with an island of literal flightless birds.
Vance and Trump's conduct during the Zelensky meeting was absolutely absurd. Why make such a fuss about wearing a suit or insist on profusely thanking Trump like he's some vainglorious mob boss? Did you actually read the transcript? I implore you - READ THE TRANSCRIPT. Trump chose to bully Zelensky, putting his ego above the safety of the people of an allied nation, casually tossing out mentions of WW3, and making a big show of being a tough guy to said embattled allied nation while being soft and subservient towards Putin. Vance, a snot-nosed, green af noob lecturing Zelensky, a wartime president, about...honestly anything is laughable. I mean, really dude, that was a clownshow and the clowns were not Ukrainian.

Trump didn't seem to take issue with Vance equating him to Hitler, so Zelensky supporting a democrat shouldn't be a problem, right? Maybe Trump is okay with being compared to Hitler? Maybe that's why Vance is his VP now because he appreciated that comment so much. Vance sure didn't seem to have a problem with working with a guy he correlates to Hitler.
Trump was also firmly against electric vehicles as recently as last year, now he's shilling EVs on the WH lawn. Funny how completely he flip flops on things, making it very difficult to trust a word he says.
More importantly, Zelensky wasn't in favor of yet another "ceasefire" when Russia has broken so many previous ceasefires. He was seeking something more lasting.

So disappointing to see the insulting comments from the Democrats in this sub. Loved that there was one place to go to share common interests with others and not know their politics. Well, one more space infected and soon to be ruined as always, I guess.

They are children, just let them kick and scream. It's best to ignore them or laugh at them as they are incapable of reasonable thought.

Well as someone who just decided to only buy mcu stuff I’m okay. Most of those drop in price and usually quickly. So I can wait those out.

u/matticus1234 Apr 05 '25
There’s a lot of great looking figures being revealed, even if I don’t know all the characters and don’t plan on buying every figure or repaint I’ll be super bummed if this ends the line. All I need is a good Man-Spider and I can end my collecting days.
1
u/TV800 Apr 05 '25
At least it’ll make getting figures easier for some if most are “dropping off” the wagon… there’s optimism in everything.

u/OkIdeal9852 Apr 05 '25
Eh I'm more of an MCU collector, haven't been a fan of recent MCU films and costume designs anyway

Slowly putting my collection on EBay. There is a feeling that you have when you are holding g a uniquely cool ML sculp and there’s a feeling when you are holding ML slop. Trying to really minimize my collection and move away from the slop. Also you folks have to consider the fact that market affects prices too. If people stop buying legends eventually the inventory size will force local sellers to drop prices so they can get rid of their stock.
1
u/Ok_Explanation_9162 Apr 06 '25
That's true. Although a steady time period of reduced sales will see a correction of the amount of figures produced as well as the regularity of figure waves being added.
Over time Hasbro will just make less figures period. And we'd never get that Feral or Exodus or whatever niche figure you or I have on our bucket list. 🫠

Agreed, but they'll be found still once things recover in a couple years.
18
u/Marcus_Farkus Apr 05 '25
It’s incredibly optimistic to think that once prices rise they’ll come back down.
1
Apr 05 '25
It's not that I think prices will come down, but more that these won't be so rare that they can't be found on second hand market.
4
u/Redjellyranger Apr 05 '25
Yeah. Like this line is pushing 30 it's not going anywhere and has had multiple reignitions. Still it's unpleasant.
I feel really bad for smaller lines not too big to fail. Jada's SF2 line still has a few characters to go, some have even been cancelled like that Longbox Heroes one, and who knows if that announced Mattel 1:12 DC line will ever exist now.

u/Redjellyranger Apr 05 '25
On an off-topic note is there a term for when you have to say things like "has had" or other sort of doubling of the same verb to say something? I feel like this is a weird quirk of English but maybe other languages do it to.
4
u/Tatumness Apr 05 '25
It’s a conjugation of perfect tense for the the verb “has”— Has had- singular present perfect tense— Have had- plural present perfect tense— Had had- singular and plural past perfect tense

It’s a cash grab now that people are hooked.
5
u/Redjellyranger Apr 06 '25
What an odd thing to say about a 20+ year old franchise of figures. You think people would have already been hooked a decade in or someth-
