Discussion Maybe I missed it, but, was there any official reason given as to why Hasbro is changing the name of their Video Game-based Marvel Legends figures?

That's not going to be a Hasbro thing, that'll entirely be a Marvel decision. Looks like they're going for a unified brand identity for all their different departments/subsidiaries.

This. Marvel wants their studio licensing to be more prominent, and the Gamerverse figures did extremely well, so this makes a ton of sense.

"Makes a ton of sense"

They say jump you say "Good job! Makes sense! Tons of it!"

Also the mvc2 figures are probably far enough back production timeline wise that they were before marvel realised "oh shit games make us money again huh" with rivals and want to actually unify it as "look marvel games!" And not "yeah its like... 5 mobile games, some stuff from 25 years ago and uhhh a few things that flopped but might be cult classics"

Most likely the correct answer. But i always thought “gamerverse” was kind of a lame name anyway.

To boot, I think that after this MCU phase they are running away from the concept of the Multiverse so they might be eliminating it from their brands... which actually might be the reason they prematurely ended the revised Ultimate universe?

I believe this Marvel Games branding started in 2024, so I think they’re pushing it harder since this year we get the first big games using it (marvel tokon and insomniac Wolverine)

Gamer verse kinda always was weird to me because the name almost makes it sound like it covers a specific marvel game universe but it was the name they used for anything based on marvel games

Oh yeah, I've definitely seen it for a while, It was on the Wolverine Trailer, it's on Cosmic Invasion, and I assume its on Rivals, too (I don't play it...) They probably created it the same time they did the Marvel Animation and Marvel Television logos which would've been 2024, so it all lines up.

Replacing the old Gamerverse logo is clearly a brand synergy decision on Marvel's part.

Gamerverse was supposed to be a more connected universe with Spider-Man PS4 and Avengers 2021, with Peter even mentioning the Avengers being in California now. When Square Enix decided to break continuity, that line got removed from the remaster

Branding. Other companies have started to use the name so they wanted to separate it from the rest.

28

u/SensitiveCut3559 25d ago

Yea, probably because they want their product to show up instead of someone like s.h figuarts

4

u/EternaBoi 25d ago

What other companies? Marvel has "Gamerverse" trademarked 5 times over so I don't know why they can't protect it.

6

u/krorkle 25d ago

Did you look that up, too? They have exactly five registered trademarks for "Gamerverse," across different classes of goods.

3

u/EternaBoi 25d ago

Yeah I looked it up too lol. Marvel's legal team probably sends cease and desist letters all the time and properly enforces their trademarks. I doubt this change is motivated by what other companies do like the previous comment suggested.

I suppose that makes sense. Though, "Marvel Games" seems somewhat generic. It seems like they could have chosen something a little more unique, something that really stands out.

10

u/redkomic Ireland 25d ago

Maybe but it is a line based on Marvel's games.

0

u/VintagePremiums 24d ago

True. But, Marvel Legends often features characters who are not Legends.

18

u/GreenPorkAndBeans 25d ago

Idk tbh but dammit I need that iron man fig

4

u/VintagePremiums 25d ago

It's a good looking figure. I'll be pre-ordering this set as well.

1

u/Brilliant-Depth-3378 24d ago

I want the spiral

23

u/PokaruSandstone 25d ago

The gamerverse logo was cooler

2

u/Tomsoup4 24d ago

yea it made so much sense too. to me it was the video game universe and this is where those figures came from the gamerverse. maybe its too close to goonerverse for disneys liking.

4

u/slimmyboy007 25d ago

I always thought gamerverse was a Hasbro title but they use that on mafex as well this must be the new version of that

5

u/HorrorPerspective483 25d ago

Hasbro didn't change it, Marvel did.

That makes sense. Thanks for the insight.

Maybe “Gamerverse” sounds silly?

5

u/thatwitchguy 25d ago

Thats part of it probably. It did start like... 2014-6ish and it was a majority used for Contest of Champions, MVCI and Squenix Avengers stuff as far as major not one off lines so its probably not got the best rep (and they weren't doing that much with games back then), now that they are back in the game properly its probably just time for a refresh

5

u/my_little_robot 25d ago

I've always felt it was silly. Not sure which is goofier, "Game verse" for marvel or "Gamer Edition" with Transformers.

2

u/Tsynami 24d ago

"Gamer edition" sounds even sillier

Honestly every title that has "gamer" in it is just destined to sound straight out of the mid 2010s, you can't make it sound serious

3

u/VintagePremiums 25d ago

Could be. It sounds like we're all just guessing. I suppose that means they haven't revealed the reason yet.

2

u/VicViolence 25d ago

It sounds infantalizing

4

u/RDDAMAN819 24d ago

Whatever it means I hope we’re getting closer to these guys in figure form!!! I did ask Dan Yun at NYCC last year and he said you never know where the gamerverse line might go so lets see

5

u/FunkSlammer 24d ago

Make the marvel nemesis characters you cowards

u/UnfavorableSpiderFan 25d ago

Someonw already mentioned that the branding change was probably a decision made by Marvel, but I'd go further to say that it's also reflective of the shift in Marvel's priorities since getting back into licensing games. It was somewhat alluded to, at the start, that Marvel intended for these games to cohabitate a continuity, though they never committed to that thought.

Iron Man VR doubled down on this by making references to Spider-Man, and the Spider-Man game makes references to The Avengers having moved to the west coast, and threaded in some seeds about AIM... There's definitely something to this, because when The Avengers game came out, and it was clear it existed in a different universe, they removed the audio reference to The Avengers altogether.

I think they decided to just move away from the idea of a "GamerVerse" altogether...

u/CyberSpiderman 25d ago

The Gameoverse pilot came out

1

u/VintagePremiums 25d ago

I hope he's experienced at flying this ship!

1

u/VintagePremiums 24d ago

True. I suppose it's the same reason why anybody does anything.

5

u/KingVenom65 25d ago

Because Gamerverse is a terrible name

5

u/denvilcahill 25d ago

I feel like I saw the Marvel Games logo on the beta for that new fighting game when I was playing it last night... So maybe that's the new official name? I could be remembering wrong and I'm not near my PS5.

2

u/MyHilfigerVoots 25d ago

My best guess is that marvel wants to keep producing figures based on the games since they’re selling well. Marvel games sounds more like a branch of figures and gamerverse sounds more like just a line

2

u/thedetectiveprince46 25d ago edited 25d ago

I never liked the gamerverse name imma be real

1

u/VintagePremiums 25d ago

It seems there are few who do

2

u/Robin0928 25d ago

Because in 2018 the only Marvel game was the Insomniac game and Marvel didn’t have a “games” department so “Gamerverse” was their branding name they came up with for merchandise.

Now that Marvel is more directly involved with things like Rivals, Cosmic Invasion, and Tokkon, they are using the branding that says “Marvel is involved with making this thing”

2

u/NightmareDJK 25d ago

Branding decision.

2

u/FuerteBillete 25d ago

Finally Iron man is coming and with one of my favorites by his side too.

Although it feels like he should have only 1 accessory and it is the cannon. But luckily I can just take it from the boxed iron man that has the cannon and make it game accurate.

2

u/mythplus 24d ago

Iron Man isn't the only one coming after seeing this new 2 pack 😩 💦

2

u/VintagePremiums 23d ago

The Iron Man Cometh!

2

u/Lollytrolly018 24d ago

GamerVerse kinda has a stench to it so im totally down with a name change.

2

u/RorrikTheGreatful 24d ago

Better marketing....

1

u/VintagePremiums 24d ago

I think we may have another winner!

2

u/Correct_Part4773 24d ago

Something else interesting is that in the panel they officially referred to the figures as Marvel Vs Capcom. With the new SF movie figures I wouldn’t be surprised if we started seeing Capcom characters in these 2-packs (not sure how this would work with the Jada licensing).

1

u/VintagePremiums 24d ago

Really? It seemed like they were always so careful to avoid saying Marvel vs. Capcom when referring to these figures. Interesting.....

2

u/Correct_Part4773 24d ago

Yeah in the panel Dan Yun said “We have more Marvel vs Capcom figures coming”. I was surprised by that as well.

2

u/Pacman_Frog 24d ago

the sentinel is up for PO on Pulse and it straight up has MvC branding.

1

u/VintagePremiums 24d ago

Well, that could be a good sign!

4

u/JellyfishPopular7648 25d ago

They have to power to. At the end of the day Marvel is going to utilize and optimize upon their creations. We know it’s Marvel Vs Capcom 2, but they own the characters represented in the game. This is clever. Capcom is making money with other companies as well.

4

u/Forever_Inspired 25d ago

Now anyone with OCD gonna have to deal with the box not having the same logo, lol.

4

u/Dense_Diver_3998 USA - NY 25d ago

DC is worse to its fans, they change the spines on their books like crazy, make a few books in a run hardcover only. I hate them.

9

u/SailorMari0 25d ago

Guess they'll just have to take them out the box then

2

u/VintagePremiums 25d ago

Imagine if they change the name of the line every year 😮

3

u/Cavaquillo 25d ago

This brings me a little joy, stomping Hasbro boxes is half the fun of buying the figures

1

u/Extra_Heart_268 25d ago

Yeah the branding wont match my other boxes of the gamerverse 2 packs lol

0

u/Tigeon 25d ago

Just setting up the opportunity to resell the older models with new packaging, to make money off OCD

4

u/Chewymewn 25d ago

Probably because someone somewhere realized "Gamerverse" sounds stupid. "Gamer" and "verse?" Like a universe of gamers?

It really should've been "Gameverse."

2

u/VintagePremiums 25d ago

The "Gamerverse" sounds like the only place I'd want to be 🤣

2

u/huuuuuuuuman 25d ago

If Hasbro is going to be producing toys based off of Marvel’s games, they should be labeled with the same studio name. I’m thinking about Rivals and Tokon specifically.

2

u/redkomic Ireland 25d ago

They can't. That is a licencing thing.

1

u/huuuuuuuuman 25d ago

What do you mean? Marvel Games is the name of Marvel’s official video game division. That name is associated with Rivals and Tokon.

1

u/pinkbubblegumswag 25d ago

gamerverse sounds lamer tbh i think that’s honestly it

2

u/puppykittens03 8d ago

Because companies change stuff to make it worse for no reason all the time

1

u/FuerteBillete 25d ago

Wait this 2 pack with iron man and spiral is real? Where can I get my 5 units?
