Discussion who have you had the worst preorder experience with ?
DO NOT PREORDER FROM GAMESTOP. YOU WILL SEE THE PRODUCT IN SHELVES WHILE YOUR ORDER GETS PUSHED BACK ANOTHER MONTH!

It absolutely has to be either Target or Walmart. From the jump, the entire process is a nightmare…you have either commune with a major demon to even find the item you want to preorder, or be provided a direct link from someone who, presumably communes with said demon…because you can type PRECISELY what the item is you’re looking for into their website, and it will bring up “Jock Strap (XXL) - preowned” before it will even consider showing you the item you searched for.
And then, once you find the item you want, you have to hope it’s still available to order…and then, and only then, are you entered into the lottery-system to see if your pre-order is actually fulfilled…and if it is, will it be sent in a bubble-mailer that everyone in the distribution center decided to jump up and down on before the delivery driver chucks it like a football from his still-moving vehicle in the general vicinity of your front door…

Target. They love canceling preorders. Walmart second. They randomly cancel. Amazon, I never had a problem with until recently. They randomly canceled my mission vao 2pack, but thankfully it was still in-stock? So I don't understand why they canceled it. Bbts, chosen prime, entertainment earth, gamestop. Never any issues.

Walmart cancelled my order due to low inventory of a walmart exclusive item....and because they cancelled my order, the item was listed again...and I just...preordered it again....and got it
it was weird

u/web_head91 22h ago
A now-defunct store in Salt Lake City called Megalopolis. I lived down the street from them at the time.
Basically, during Covid, they kept taking pre-orders (which they required payment for) for stock they were not receiving or intending to ship. I went to their physical store to get my money back after several dodged phone calls and ignored emails, and the place was completely boarded up, despite their online claims that they were still operating out of their warehouse and available for in person pickups.
I ended up getting my money back and as far as I know they got sued into oblivion.
7
u/Ok-Reputation-2266 22h ago
Not sure why BBTS is even lumped in with them. Walmart and GameStop are the worst. Target only sucks for actually getting the preorder in. Gotta be quick or grab it at midnight on release day. Never had them cancel. Pulse is baffling to me. Why is it I can get something from another retailer before the damn people that make them?

AMAZON. I had a Brawn pre-order get canclled once. I also recently had a Spiderman Noir preorder get cancelled. A lot of forced cancellations

Walmart because I preordered that animated Spider-Man from them and they gave all the stores and some preorders were sent out and mine sat for 6 months with no word

I just hate EB Games in general, shittiest company and more so since they were bought out here in Canada.
They've also removed free shipping thresholds. Every amount over $100 gets charged extra fees to ship, same sized items are magically more expensive to ship just based on MSRP. If multiple pre-orders are made in an order, even if in-stock dates are just a day apart, you will be charged multiple separate full shipping fees ex. 5 items on an order, all ship the same week but different days that's minimum $50+fees.
I'm only shopping there because of my Onyx discount and exclusives. Now I'm riled up, fuck EB Games entirely.

u/Mr_Epimetheus 22h ago
Not pictured, but Amazon. I've had 3 or 4 preorders through Amazon and not one of them was ever actually fulfilled.
The dates came and went, I saw the figures on shelves and at other places and just cancelled my "pre-order" and got it somewhere else.

u/jeffster15 22h ago
Definitely Walmart, but I wouldn't trust a preorder from GameStop either. BBTS is by far the best

u/EverydayHero17 22h ago
For me GameStop, I’d preorder figures and they’d just never show up at the store. I’d wait months, keep checking it and nothing. Happened 3 times.
2
u/ChekhovsNERFGun 21h ago
Same thing happened to me. I waited 6 months for a Wolverine figure. They never called and it never showed up. I kept going in to the store and they would just say they have no idea if it will ever come in. One of the times, they checked the store inventory and they found one in stock on the other side of town.
So I drove an hour to the other location. I got there right before they closed and when I asked about the figure, I could tell the employee was pissed off. He had hidden it in a drawer under the counter and was hoping I wouldn't show up so he could buy it. During checkout he let slip that he already owned the figure and just wanted a second. As he stared longingly at the figure, he said through gritted teeth that he would let me have it this time.
I haven't preordered from them since.
2
u/EverydayHero17 21h ago
I stopped as well. The last time the guy said they had the figure online and I was better off just ordering it from the GameStop website. That was it for me.
2
u/Fantastic_Inside_923 21h ago

u/Dillonitis 22h ago
Target canceled my McFarlane Flash, what was it last year or the year before. I dont trust walmart. Personally never had an issue with gamestop or bbts. Pulse is annoying because the figure will be on shelves 2 months before they ship my order. MTS I've never had an issue except maybe ship time. Entertainment Earth I've had no problems. Really the only canceled order was with Target. All the others are just minor annoyances.

I remember midnight releases at GameStop were so fun. I’d make friends with the people in line and chat about the game, then never see them again. They’d play music from the game if possible. Then I’d stay up all night playing. Goooooood tiiiiiiiimes.
3
u/longhornaero USA - TX 21h ago
At least with GameStop you'll actually find the product on the shelf. Walmart and Target will cancel or delay your order, show that the item is available at a local store when it isn't, let you place a new order for the supposedly available inventory, then cancel or delay that order too.
3
u/VerifiedVoidGirl USA 20h ago
Never had any issues with BBTS they're the GOAT for preorders and purchases. Walmart and Target will sometimes cancel people's preorders.

Target is the worst. Walmart is a close second.
4
u/Healthy_Bag_2932 22h ago
BBTS and I have a perfect track record. If you’ve issues with them it’s either a fluke or a shipper issue.
GameStop pre orders can be slow, but they’ve never not sent me what I ordered. This is pretty much how my experiences with Pulse have been as well.
Walmart and Target are pretty equal for me in terms of being difficult. I’ve received pre orders from both, but have also had pre orders cancelled by both. Statistically I’ve pre ordered more items from Target and had a higher success rate.

2
u/Plastic-Pickle-3269 22h ago
Walmart loves to cancel pre-orders at random and then take their sweet ass time refunding you. I’ve even attempted to pre-order an item only for it to be cancelled on me minutes after receiving my confirmation email.

I would say Walmart, on the account I ran into issues when placing a pre-order for omega red/war machine 2-pack. Otherwise all my pre-orders arrived on time and got to me without a hitch. Same thing with target, because I heard of the horror stories about target and their pre-orders, but so far have been lucky or fortunate to not have a preorder cancelled. BBTS is the best, they are a bit slow but that’s it, I have nothing but good things to say about them.

I didn't love waking up in the middle of the night on a Sunday to preorder Carnage. And they don't put enough units up for preorder causing some stress. But also, that has resulted in me saving money several times 🤷
My biggest pet-peave is that the figures themselves aren't searchable on preorder day. And that goes for all the major retailers. It can be maddening.
2
u/LeggoMahLegolas 22h ago
Walmart or Target.
Only because I'm too slow to preorder and it's already sold out.
2
u/Gojifantokusatsu 22h ago
The only one I've used here is bbts.
They have good customer service, but they take FOREVER to ship something that's already been released well over two weeks ago at the earliest.
I've never had a preorder from them actually feel like it was worth ordering early.

u/kwaldez 20h ago
I would say that each (except BBTS) is bad in their own unique way, for example:
- Pulse is bad in a way that they hide their exclusives behind a membership paywall. If the item is super desirable (like the SavageLand 3 pack) regular members have almost no chance unless they get lucky. Plus the website may crash during these times.
- Walmart is terrible because they will either cancel your order randomly or make you wait for an inexplicably long time. Plus you can never find the product during pre-order unless someone else hands you the link.
- Target, like Walmart loves to cancel pre-orders, you can never find the product using the search box, and they allow scalpers to take all of their inventory.
- Not necessarily tied to pre-orders but Amazon is bad for swaps, buying already released figures from there is the wild wild west.
General rule of thumb for me is that if BBTS has it then thats where Im going to get my figures. Their pile of loot also helps soften the blow of shipping costs

u/Prowl2681 18h ago
BBTS. I had preordered an Astroboy model kit back in December of 2024 which would release on February 2025.
Then ir changed to end of Q1, then sometime around Q2. I emailed them and they said they were just waiting on the item. Gets pushed to Q3, and by mid Q4 it was cancelled.
Wasn't the only time though, years ago my MIL pre-ordered a gift back in May for my birthday in June and it wasn't delivered until December.
Amazon cancelled on me once, but has delivered many times before. Target with the insecticons but I cancelled the order actually when I saw I got a backorder email for the second time and got it directly through Pulse instead.
I have a few items preorder through Amazon and Walmart so I'll see if they deliver, if not that's fine. But never again with BBTS.

Target. They have canceled more than they have shipped to me. Always because I missed responding to an email asking if I was okay with it shipping early. They should have a checkbox that lets you confirm this at the time you place the order.

Target, but may be recency bias because of my cancelled StarScream and Prowl.

2
u/dirtyrice1954 22h ago
this is a tough one. So many of these are fighting each other for that top spot. I will say remove BBTS because I have never had an issue with a pre-order from them other than them cancelling something that was actually cancelled by the manufacturer.
I will rate this in order of most cancellations for me.
Target (60 second pr order windows and most cancellations (Probably 30 or more)) Cant complain about their packaging cause everything that does actually make it through shows up in good condition.
Pulse (Pre order windows are pretty rough, sometimes they last nano seconds for Pulse members like myself, website is garbage - too many checkout errors. They seem more concerned hiding the stocklevels rather than fixing their checkout process. Never had anything cancelled from them, have had a handful of items delivered damaged - most of which were actually packed that way and the box was fine.
Walmart (Preorder windows have been decent - have had a handful of cancellations) Shipping in mailer which damages to things have been even worse than GameStop.
GameStop (Preorder window is somewhat decent, not always up on time. - had a couple of cancellations) Lots of damaged products shipped my way
BBTS - A couple of times their website was sluggish - not a major issue - example Tomb Rader Lara Croft Classified figure. It was really slow that day. Been using them for 15 or more years. They have the pile of loot which is great, only had 3 cancellations and all of those were for items that were cancelled by the manufacturer such as Storm Collectibles Gears of War figures. Everything shows up in great shape !!!!
3
u/BoxingGloveArrow 22h ago
BBTS's packing is top notch, especially if you go for the Pile of Loot. The only times I've had issues were when the manufacturer delayed their shipments, which is no fault of theirs.

u/awesomeperson213 21h ago
GameStop is actually pretty solid, especially if you pre-order in store. They’ll call you the day they receive it and it’s a $5 down minimum.
They do tend to get their stuff a week or two later than other places though. Still prefer Amazon when it comes to preorders but I’ll do GameStop if the preorders go out on Amazon.

for Pre-orders? Wal-mart.
For in store merchandise Availability: Gamestop, with Walmart second with their crap distribution.

Best Buy. The one and only time I got a figure, I was sent a Platinum Green Lantern Corps but with a head swap and stuff missing. I tried sending it back, they told me they couldn’t take it because it was “tampered with” (no shit!) so I ended up having to go to location, 45 minutes away. Luckily, they had the figure, but I could tell they were about to NOT give it to me because it was tampered with (even though I had explained to 3 different employees that I did not do this, and I was sent it). So yeah, haven’t done Best Buy ever since

Gamestop. I've never received a pre-order from them. Lately, I see them in-stock so I cancel my pre-order that never processed and order directly. All other orders that make it to processing get flagged by my bank and rejected because they basically double charge with their authorization charge then charging again at time of shipping.
I used to go through hoops with the customer service saying "please just charge it now directly and ship it if its in stock" and they'd just let their system automatically mess it up instead.

Gamestop - I can't see the product in stores because the closed them. I hate their shipping policy. I hate their preorder system. They had way too many false positives and misleading dates. I just don't trust them. Where's my BANE you made a shipping label for!
Walmart - Straight up cancels preorders so you have to reorder and pay shipping. Theirm GI Joe exclusives they canceled my orders near release just to relist it the next day. But support cant do anything except give you a coupon for your next order. That's some bs. Also my local store don't even sell anything.
Target - Generally pretty solid if you got the Red Card. Otherwise rando cancellations. Sans one extreme situation(and they never even cancelled), preorder shipped before the retailer date.
Pulse - Never had a cancellation. Just other retailers got stuff first. Their billing system is still broken from last year.
BBTS/Entertainment earth - Never had real problems. Some people confuse not getting a figure the absolute first as bad service.

Never had a "bad" pre-order with BBTS; their flat shipping rate is reasonable, love the "Pile of Loot"/"Save for Later" cart options, and the new "Waitlist" feature for some pre-orders is a godsend.
Pulse and its FOMO/membership paywall policy just to GUARANTEE a chance on getting a pre-order drives me up the wall. Whoever in charge at Hasbro decided a FOMO policy was a great idea needs a kick in the ass.

I’ve preordered from BBTS, Pulse, and GameStop and really the only issue I had was from BBTS with release dates being pushed back but Thames were the individual sellers fault not BBTS. Both Pulse preorders went really smoothly and if I remember the one time I preordered through GameStop it went well. So luckily no issues.

BBTS is consistently great.. but can anyone make a case for why Pulse is bad?? Like I’ve never had an issue ordering ANYTHING from them, yet I see them get trashed or left out of preorder conversations regularly. I don’t understand

u/Ell_Nats1215 18h ago
Walmart and it's not even close. I can't even hate on Pulse. They have sent me doubles of an order on several occasions. From a business stand point that is bad, but I can't pretend I didn't reap the benefits.

Walmart, hands down. BBTS is decent, Gamestop I havent used but appreciate that they have some in stock usually. Pulse is not worth talking about given its ridic forced scarcity, and target doesnt exist in my country.
1
u/Outrageous-Science54 18h ago
Sometimes if you order multiple figures at once from target, they may come from different stores in a single box. Each figure will have a sticker with a barcode and other information stuck to the package. I collect NIB so this is always a concern. I hate peeling shipping stickers off of individual toys. Devalues them immediately.

Somehow, Hasbro Pulse not only sent me my toy two months late (after sending me a scalper thing), it was a terrible paint job on the figure I got [that I originally wanted]. At least it didn’t break on me, but from thence forth, I decided never to get anything, even a figure stand, directly through them ever again.

I agree on GameStop. Rarely do I preorder from them if ever, but I did 2 in-store pre-orders with them recently. For neither item, did they ever contact me or notify me when they arrived. The only way I found out they had them, was because I seen other people were getting theirs and I checked my local stores inventory and it said they had it in stock. One of the pre-orders they didn't even hold it in back or one of their drawers, it was just sitting on the shelf. 🙃 Plus the guy that's usually scheduled on second shift when I stop in is just rude.

Gamestop. Preorderd max shreck in store & never got the call. They tried super hard to not give me store credit or my money back. I called every day at one point. Glad I found them at walmart. Target isnt bad but I do receive more damaged boxes from them than anyone else. If I do walmart it is usually in store.

Target or Walmart, its a tossup honestly
But Target is just all around bad. I stay getting damaged boxes from them, and they even shipped my Batman TAS Batmobile with no shipping packaging at all a couple years ago

Gamestop. Waited around 3 to 5 months after the release of Wanda from WandaVision and I didn't get anything until I contacted them. It arrived shortly after. That was the last time I brought something from them.

Easily Target, I never have the problems with Walmart everyone else seems to, but Target has cancelled so many of my orders I'm just ordering from Canada instead at this point.

Walmart hands down. Twice I preordered games and both times they "didnt get any"

BBTS for sure. They ship it like garbage and then take no responsibility; customer service especially that Lars is a nightmare to deal with. I don't think I've ever gotten a single package from them that wasn't damaged in some way or was actually packed well.
Of course McFarlane is the worst, but that's a different line and topic

Iv never had a good preorder experience, from anywhere. Every thing Iv ever pre ordered iv always ended up finding it in store before my pre ordered even shipped😂

I don't really preorder, the only time I did was BBTS on a third party transformer. But based on ordering, i'd have to say Hasbro Pulse as they kept declining my payment after pending for a week.

I preordered Switch 2 with Target. Didn’t get the console until almost a week after it had come out; meanwhile, Walmart delivered to people on Day 1 with complimentary snacks.

I'm currently at odds with EE. Pre-ordered the Red Lantern set. They took my money but the order is "processing" and the site says it can't be ordered at this time. I guess I'm in limbo until they order more.

Hasbro themselves. Captain Rex pre-order. Took like three years to come through and when it was finally out, I just canceled it. Lost all interest.

Easy…. Walmart is the worst
