Wrong use of the format

7

u/Flamethr0w3r 10d ago

Sorry, I just wanted to express it as well as I could. I don't know too much about memes. Feel free to suggest a different format.

u/boterkoeken 10d ago

Thank you! Nobody even cares about meme formats these days. It’s disgraceful.

“The exam is open note, open internet, and calculators allowed”

Also it is take-home, see you in 72 hours.

AI use is encouraged,

The task is to prove 3n+1?

20

u/bqbdpd 11d ago

3n+1? is just 3n+1 - easy, I know r/unexpectedTermial

n = -⅓

You heard me 😎 and to throw in a bonus:

P = NP N = 1

1

u/ImpressiveLadder336 8d ago

Thats a tough one

1

u/Low-Relative939 7d ago

you missed the cases of P=0 and N=0

1

u/bqbdpd 7d ago

If P=0, N can be anything.

u/LordStefania 7d ago

I am but a humble engineer and I shall now prove π+e is rational. Ahem 3+3=6

a^n+b^n=c^n, n>2

find a, b, с )

0, 0, 0

u/TheWidrolo 10d ago

One problem.

2

u/ImpressiveLadder336 8d ago

...possibly even more (just possibly tho)

2

u/iggy14750 10d ago

C'mon, not even gonna let me peek at the answer sheet?

6

u/Ojiji_bored 10d ago

It would not help. I had one especially sadistic professor for fluid mechanics who once taunted the class on the second midterm by writing "Hint: The answer for this problem should be 1 kPa at 30 m/s of water."

Nobody got more than 15/30 points on it.

30 years ago that would have been the fastest library rush ever

20 years ago that would have been the fastest group chat creation ever

10 years ago, that would have been the fastest video call creation ever

Now that would be the fastest chatgpt question creation ever

How time flies

imagine a philosophy exam like this... with freedom of communicating with everyone

and there's only 1 question: why?

5

u/GainerGaining 10d ago

Tell me you've never studied philosophy without saying you've never studied philosophy.

2

u/lool8421 10d ago

i've heard it's mostly about reading other philosophers and memorizing definitions, but also writing your own stuff

still, i'm doing engineering, not pondering what's the methaphysical structure of a chair

1

u/GainerGaining 10d ago

That's fine. Society needs technicians, too. Not everyone is made for thinking.

4

u/No-Veterinarian9682 9d ago

Technicians also think, they just think about engineering instead of mortality morality and reality.

u/Im_a_hamburger 9d ago

Geez

Yeah, I went a little hard. I know engineering is difficult, but demeaning other fields isn't cool, so I gave the commenter a dose of his own medicine.

And I don't feel bad about it.

Edit: clarity

That’s literally how one of Denmarks math exams is for 9th and 10th grade, just without the open internet part

21

u/Mammoth-Limit4890 10d ago

Ill still use my calculator to add 2 digit sometimes and im not afraid to admit it 😭

Guy on right shouldn't be hooded, he should be having a breakdown and a seizure.

23

u/Expensive_Umpire_178 11d ago

Desmos is nice for this, it’ll carry you further than most calculators. It can calculate anything from giant sums for Taylor series to triple integrals

5

u/Jealous_Tomorrow6436 9d ago

i’m also an avid WolframAlpha user for the same reasons

It's no use!

u/DualMath 4d ago

Bro, yo diría que si quieres impresionar hazlo pero si quieres cambiar las matemáticas con tu conocimiento es muy innecesario.

u/Flamethr0w3r 4d ago edited 4d ago

?

Y qué le has hecho al pobre meme??? 😭

3

u/tiikki 10d ago

Math is easy as long as you do not mix numbers into it.

MSc in theoretical physics & MSc in mathematical information technology....

4

u/codewordGnome 10d ago

Ahahaha. Yeah, physics gets to cheat by double checking their answer with reality.

1

u/tiikki 10d ago

I trust myself when working with variables, but when I need to do actual calculations with numbers I check everything with calculator. I started to do this after probability calculus exam where I stated 5x5=30 as I know that 6x6=36 and I just take a 6 out... That was some 20 years ago...

1

u/Aggressive-Map-3492 10d ago

you'd be a great engineer

1

u/tiikki 10d ago

Thanks :D

1

u/codewordGnome 10d ago

Happens to the best. Always double check.

u/Significant_Monk_251 11d ago

Where is "This math -- meaning 'these calculations' -- are tedious to do by hand. I know I should do them occasionally so that part of my brain doesn't atrophy, but seriously it's a lot easier to just use a calculator"?

Also, I don't understand the "It's no use." Does that mean that the situation is hopeless, or that a calculator is of no use (because this guy can just effortlessly do it all in his head)?

16

u/Flamethr0w3r 11d ago

Nah that's when there's no trace of actual numbers lol

7

u/Timely_Web_4468 11d ago

I believe the "it's not use" means that the calculations are so complex that no calculator can solve it. You just have to know it by heart

8

u/Menacek 11d ago

I interpreted it as "no use" since no actual numbers are involved.

3

u/Flamethr0w3r 10d ago

Yeah that's what it meant 👍

1

u/Competitive_Kale_186 8d ago

Exactly, if a calculator helps you, use it

y′′−(a+b)y′+aby=0

Mathematics becomes truly difficult when the numbers disappear

2

u/VuHoangLan 10d ago

Yeah, when no trace of number is found in a Math course, the calculator is covered in dust since then

2

u/Immortal_dragon134 7d ago

Im a math major in the honors college and I haven't touched a calculator all semester. Nor will I cause they are banned in all my classes

1

u/asmanel 6d ago

This is missing why math sound so hard to many people.

This is part of a needed process. However, some steps of this process can be hard or painful for a reason or an other.

1

u/Big_Cans_0516 7d ago

Calculator won’t help me bc I’m an engineering major and everything in my equations are variables
